How do you do wheelies?

I've learnt how to ride wheelies on my 1986 Honda Fourtax 250. The front end can lift when I'm putting it into either first or second. I now have heavier tires on the rear so it is harder to lift it in 2nd. What I do, is I put it in between gears and rev the engine a bit. Then I pop it into gear and give it gas and pull up on the handle bars all at the same time. I seem to have mastered it as the front end lifts right up and I can then shift up to third then fourth and I have rarely gotten it to 5th. Once in 4th, the front end usually starts to fall.

Also pulling up on the handle bars at the same time may help.......that's a no no on a bike though.

I do that sometimes too. I will be driving and have it in high RPMs (going up a hill) and when I get to the point where the hill turns flat, I let go of the gas and then I hit it and pull back on the handlebars and it will lift. I can do this in 1st or 2nd.

very hard to pull a wheelie on a kodiak you have to put all ur weight in the back and go up a hill

Posted by: kawasaskirules

yea on flat ground on a stock 03-06 kodiak it is mostly not going to happen

It's an autoclutch. Don't rev it in neutral and pull it into gear or bad things will surely happen to the gears.
Just use your foot to put it into gear from neutral and hold it, DON"T LET THE SHIFTER GO. Then you can rev it up and release the lever and up she comes with no gear crashing! It's just popping the clutch.

Posted by: Glenlivet

Not quite. See, each time you pull or push the shifter it first disengages the clutch. That's how it works. So when you are in neutral and you pull up the shifter, it pulls the clutch and goes into gear, but as long as you don't let it go, the clutch stays in and you can rev it. But it's in gear. If you let it go then the clutch is out, and if you pull again the clutch goes in but then you are in second, too.
Dumping the clutch to pull a wheelie isn't hard on the tranny. Much.

It's not as easy on it as not doing it of course... but chances are it will be just fine.

I'm just saying that popping the clutch isn't as easy on a bike as riding it like a granny!
If you keep revving it up and then jamming it in gear you will end up with a tranny in pieces on the road, maybe the very next time you do it.

im pritty sure im not overreving it and im very close to full throttle when i shift into 1st.

One good reason not to buy used quads BR>

Neutral slamming it can't be good for it. When you do that you slamming metal on metal together. When using a clutch to do this your pressure plate and clutch pads are whats making the contact. If you plan on tearing your wheeler up, you should be ok with that method.

i sit on mine click it in 4 low crack it down and i do a wheelie well till i hit my back bumper. god bless you dynatek

I just rejetted my Bear tracker and installed 6 uni filter vents. It will pull the front wheels off the ground in 1st with my 300 lbs. but on the back of the seat with a slight tug on the handle bars. I have to be rolling a litte. I need to drop on more jet and I think that it will come up in 2nd with a little help and a rolling head start.
With my griz, I just us my thumb and nothing else.

im guessing the TimberWolf is a Semi automatic?

and as for the 400, i doubt it can do a wheelie without alot of complex body english, pavement, and some luck

Posted by: spyder6

i doubt its bad or anything, however its probebly being alot more rough and strenious on the transmition, but its not any different than poping the clutch on a Manual.

Posted by: spyder6

simple solid advice, dont dump the gears while revving it on that quad, your going to end up with a blown up quad

I pull wheelies on my kodiak but its a 5 speed semi-auto but you guys also got 2 wheel drive just put both your knees on the back rack and give it to her it'll go up

Posted by: BigDog800EFI

I use the thumb on my right hand. Reving it up and dumping in to gear is going to destroy your tranny. Those small CC utility ATVs are not made for riding wheelies.

If your Timberwolf is a 2wd with very little in the frontjust put it in 1st pull ahead slow hit the front brakes then hit the throttle and lean back at the same time and the front should go right up.As for Kodiak put it in low and try the same thingbut realy nail the throttle.Thats how i get my rubiocn up. And if that fails try it on a small hill thats paved.

yea, i do wheelies on my bayou by dumping the clutch. NOT THE GEARS!!!! it works really good if i roll backwards shift it into first rev it up and let go of the shifter. ive gotten it into 5th gear but it doesnt ride fer but about 10ft. but im only 15 and weigh about 110 so its easy to get it up. lol

Posted by: Bayoumudder220

yeah, i might have to try that tomarrow and ill tell ya if it worked

Posted by: Bayoumudder220

haha, im goin to do it right now

Posted by: Bayoumudder220

hey millertime, it works awsome i can do it in 1st-4th gear and ride them out!!!!!! thanks fer the tip

Posted by: Grizzman42

ive done wheelies on my grizz 660 before. its just really hard. u have to lean back as hard as u kan and if ur lucky itll go up. ive never ridin a wheelie on my grizzly for more than like 10 feet though kuz im only 14 and kant hold it that long. im lucky to even ride it 5 feet, lol.

Hey I just reccently learend how to do a wheelie on my 250 timberwolf. But in order to do one i need to give it gas in neutral then shift into first and usually dont have to pull up at all. I normally either need flat land or a small hill to do one. How can i do a wheelie on a Kodiak 400 its automatic so i have no clue on what to do.

Posted by: FinalForce

Yes the Timberwolf is an automatic. Does anyone know if what im doing is bad on the engine, im pritty sure im not overreving it and im very close to full throttle when i shift into 1st. Also for perfomance if i wait longer in 2nd before i shift into 3rd will 3rd gear be shorter because it feals very long.

Posted by: FinalForce

SO if i hold the shifter up while in neutral and rev then let go it wont destroy my tranny?

Posted by: FinalForce

Am i better off doing the method you told me or the way i used to do it. Which wont be as hard on the clutch. Both are fairly easy to do aswell.

Anytime bro! That's SA-WEET!!!! We need pics now!

i have a prairie 360 and EVERYONE says wheelies are impossible on those and I do them with a stock prairie 360....so my technique should work for you too....I just stand up, hold the front brakes in low gear, then gas it to let the wheels spin while the wheeler sits still....then sit down fast with all your weight while you simultaneously let go of the brake...voila...your front wheels come up...

ok i have a honda recon and i used the neutral gas and go and since i fear damage expllain how the holding down the gear shit will still give me the power i need
