What's wrong with horses. I've been in water over 5 feet deep on a horse and never had to drain or change anything. I've been on trails where you could never take a quad (too narrow and steep). Of course I've never woke up from a nap on a camping trip and found my quad eating my NutterButters.

I've been thrown, bit, kicked, stomped and chased by my ATV. It leaves a mess that you have to clean up when you service it. I have 4 horses and it costs about $1,000 a year for all 4 and thats vet, feet, feed and extras. I'm not saying horses are better than quads, I'm just saying there are places I can take a horse that you can't get to on a quad. Of course there is stuff you can do with a quad that you could never do with a horse. The horse was the orriginal ATV. If it weren't for horses, you wouldn't have ATVs. It seems like the more restrictions they put on ATVs and the higher the cost of fuel, it won't be long and the only way you are going to see the trails is on horseback.

I would particularly check the engine oil, for foaming. It will turn milky and nasty. If it is messed up, that would be the most expensive damage to have to fix.

Change fluid in your differentials, check shaft seals and swingarm bearings... ummm

Do yourself a favor and check all fluids ,just because it's running ok don't mean a thing .
If it's an auto with a belt setup pull the drain plug .
Good luck !

The way I see it, horses are useless compaired to an atv. I have never been thrown off my atv, yet. I have never been kicked by my quad, nor bitten by it. It does not leave piles for you to step in, and you dont have to tie it up when you are done riding.BR>
Seriously, I work at a farm supply store, and they recently sent out a publication had that several facts about our company. It said that the average equine owner spent b/t $4000-5000 a year on thier horse. Thats hay, feed, ferrier, tack, vet bills, etc. Thats almost what I payed for my whole quad! If you like horses, thats cool, but dang they are expensive.

Last month I used my vinson to go out into the rice fields and collect my duck decoys. I was in up to 2' deep water and crud for two or three hours. (what a blast!)When I got back I just pulled the rice straw that was wound around everything and hosed it off. Is there anything else I should do? There have been no problems, I'm just curious -Thanks.

Thanks for the input . And duramax-thanks for the entertainment! You must own one of those submerine quads! 42" would be above my gas tank. Yu da man!

Good grief nhmudbear. Has it gone that far? Won't be long before it's illegal to start up an ATV for all the pollutants it puts in the air.
If it were left to some people, we'd all be either walking or riding horses. Car ownership would be banned and horse and buggy combo's would be all you could own.
Luckily there's no water here in Nevada (relatively speaking), but I'm sure it will soon be illegal to run over sage brush.

Hey Stark, nuthin' wrong with horses - if you like that kind of thing. I've had nothing but bad experiences with horses in my 59 years. I'd just as soon shoot 'em and eat 'em as look at them BR>
But those who like 'em, seem to love 'em, and that's just fine. Just don't ask me to come along for a ride............

I'd change the diff fluid anyways. How much does it cost? It's costs me $4.50 a qt., big deal. Little price to pay to eliminate any uncertainty. Especially if you rode a while to get the fluid slighty warm. Sitting in the water for that long could have cooled it off drawing in some unwanted stuff. Just my $0.02 though.

Generally you need to check right after riding for water. On the Vinson there is a bolt on the underside of the belt case. Remove it and run the engine to blow the water out. Next check the air filter box and drain it if neccessary.

a little water could of gotten in the air box. maybe.

that sucks. that the best part of trail riding.

crossing open stream????? that is BS and I protest. If that ever comes to Ohio so help me _ _ _ I am going to kick some politician's _ _ _ !
BTW I think you hit a nerve.
Also if 2 feet is what you call deep water then I have to laugh. I was well into 3.5 feet and had to water wheelie. One of my geek friends wouldn't take his rubi down there so I showed him up and then he had to go around. What a panzy. This was on our big bear and not our kodiak.

just chech the fluids like everyone else said but it should be fine if its runnin fine

You know if you only was in 2 ft. of water you will probably be alright as long as your filler caps are tight. You might want to check your fluids and make sure they are not contaimenated but I ride in deep water with a few people w/vinsons and they are cool. We ride in water and deep mud and our's are good. Don't change it unless it is time, contaminated or you are uncomfortable. Waste of money.
Keep doing it and yes it is fun!!!!!!!!!
