I have called just about every MFG of aftermarket pipes I can think of and no luck even finding one in the works, I tried HMF, Procircut , FMF, White brothers, and big gun. I hate the waverunner sound it has now, I am about ready to try making some homemade modds to the stock exhaust. Those end pieces were welded on, I am wondering what is behind those caps. I was thinking of cutting a three inch hole in the center of the ind caps and cutting off the down spouts and welding a piece over the down spout holes, thus bringing the exhaust steight back and out much larger holes. I am not sure if it can be done to look right or how those factory pipes are put together to know if this would work or what it would sound like. But I bet a nice set of HMF or Procircut pipes would give it a similar sound to a harley. If you have any luck finding some please let me know. I'll do the same.

Hey Spyder do you know what the OD is on the head pipes, I stop by the local quad shop on the way home and we came to the conlusion that the easiest thing to do for the exhaust would be to take a couple of universal slip on's from procircut of somthing like that and make some brackets (hangers) the head pipe od is what we need, I store all my quads at my place in oklahoma, I am in ks were I work right now. If you know the size I will start working on finding a universal slip on that will work for us.

Thanks, I will keep you posted on what I find.

No I havn't herd a 700, but this wave runner sound alike has to have some rumble to it somewhere, I just have to find it. I was figuring since it has two 330cc jugs on it and a factory dual exhaust it might sound pretty good if I can find the right mufflers. I have the procircut systems on all my stp's and the prairie wich sound alot better than the IDSX I originaly had on the P650. They sond alot deaper than the IDSX does. My mechanic was thinking the V-force mufflers from procircut might be addaptable to the SP800, not sure yet.

thanks for the heads up.

Jumps?!? Sounds like you should dig out a mud-boggin hole!

As you can see in my pics, i've done some jumping on my 400 Xplorer, and have had front end probs since. (Well, my little bro wrapped it around a tree later that day, which MIGHT have something to do with it!! Another Skid-Lid put to use!)
Just remember that machine of yours is HEAVY, but hey, you didn't buy it to look pretty did you? Heck No! Have fun! What was the question?

When I first saw the thread title "jumping the ute" I thought you were talking about Alex Smith.

Put me in the category of 'why would you want to'? There are a couple of places on my farm where I can get some air time, but the two big utility quads I've had on those jumps (Grizz, Cat 500i) were both big heavy pigs, clumsy jumpers that came down like a bucket of bolts.

Don't get me wrong, both were fine machines that excelled at what they were designed for. But jumping a big utility? An accident waiting to happen, broken parts waiting to happen.

Save the money you'd be spending on a arms, frames, shock mounts, and driveshafts, and put it towards a low end sport quad. They're just plain fun to jump.

I jump my outlander all the time. The thing jumps perfect.

Posted by: 03250bayou

maybe its just me but it seems like jumpin an IRS quad could get dangerous...

Posted by: Scooter86

I predict your CRF money will be put to use fixing that 800 instead. Have fun, it's only money!

I liked jumping my Rincon down in the dunes BR>But that is nothing, compared to the MX track last weekend img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0">img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0">img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0">
There was a table top that was about 10-12 feet tall, about 35 feet long, with a lip at the take off point img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-shocked.gif" border="0">
Holy crud was I able to soar the Air Rincon over that thing, flew that 600 lb utility farther than a lot of the sporties img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif" border="0">
The IRS on the Rincon soaked up the landing sweet, only barely bottomed it out once......
If I could afford some good shocks, I would really scare myself img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0">BR>
I do agree that flying these things is a lot more scary than the lighter sporties, it is pretty nuts BR>

Jumping an IRS quad is easier than a sold axle, at least as far as takeoff is concerned, because the takeoff area does not need to be as level. If there is a bump on just one side the suspension soaks it up and you still fly level, instead of the quad being pitched to one side because one rear tire hits a lip on the jump edge after the front tires have already left the ground. Landing sideways can be a real E-ticket ride though.BR>
Works, Elka, and Ohlins make suspension upgrades for the Kawasaki Prairie, but I don't know of any for the Polyairis. I say go for iit, we want to know what breaks first

cc1999,
Have you heard a Polaris 700 twin with an aftermarket exhaust on it? Not at all like a Harley, if that was what you were wondering. I heard a SP 700 with a Big Gun exhaust on it, and I thought the owner had swapped in a different engine so much that I actually stopped him and asked him. I was certain that there was just no way that sound was coming from a 700cc ATV. It sounded high pitched, and alot like a 70cc four stroke beginner motorcycle that someone had taken the muffler off of, so that it was loud and stupid sounding. If the SP 800 sounds anything like the SP 700, the best sound from that engine is NONE AT ALL. You may want to listen to a piped SP 700 before cutting up the quiet exhaust on your SP 800. Just a thought.

Agreed. At least he opted for the heaviest quad in the world for his jumping pleasure.

I really dont get wanting loud pipes for it either, but whatever floats your boat.

I Jump a BF750 in the dunes and love it. I would not suggest this for anyone that is not an expert or very advance rider. I watched a girl break her back after getting about 5-6 feet of air on a Grizzly660 and then flipping over the handle bars. Fortunatley the compressed fractured vertebra will heal up in 3-4 months with little permanent damage, but you need to know what your doing before you air out these big quads. You also need the upper body strength to hold everything straight when they land wrong.

High Risk = Lots of fun + pain and suffering

Posted by: Curls

I just incuded a picture of a Grizzly catching about 5 - 6 feet of air in the Coral Pink Sand Dunes. Check it out under my pictures.

Posted by: Curls

This is a somewhat embarrassing confession, but that's my wife jumping her Grizzly. In my defense though I taught her how to ride. I did the jump a couple of times before she did it and I was bottoming out the shocks. I weigh about 230 and she is about 90 pounds lighter so she did not notice any bottoming. Shortly after this picture was taken another lady on her grizzly landed on the front wheels flipped her quad over and broke her back and 6 ribs. I called her husband a few weeks ago and she is recovering fine but ouch!

I am pretty careful about where I jump. The big quads are hard to get sorted out in the air if you miss the takeoff, but they do fly straight and land real soft. Years ago when my wife started riding she was catching a couple of feet of air, but would not believe me until I showed her photos. That's how soft they land.

I have a picture of Dave (silverbullet) jumping his sportsman 700 EFI in my photobucket pictures under gravel pit ride.
It wasn't very far but he was a good 4-5 feet up off the ground. I was impressed!

We will also be taking this motor down soon to see if there is enough room to make it a 900. So there may be a big bore available in the future as well. Cool BMP, keep the Polaris upgrades comin'!

Ethyan

Hey Ethyan, I'm a little older than that but
I ride private property by Kingston and just outside of Brown City.

You should get a Trail blaser or a Scrambler 4x4, the best of both worlds.

ethyan

I'm around 40.

You can pick up a used Scrambler for anywhere from $2,000-3,500 '97-2002 model years.
I have seen a couple decent deals here in michigan in the auto -RV traders and online.

The TB can be had new fro around $3500. Used anywhere from about $1,500 up.

They will do small jumps but i would recamend a chain tensioner for anything larger.

You could pick up a used older blaster for $1,500 up if you want to shift.

If you know how and have rode a manual get the Blaster or Mojave or a 250 ex.
If not a Trail Blazer will fit the bill and the 2 stroke can be modded to be fast.

I'd get whatever you can afford for now, its a start!
You can move up later when you can afford to.

Goood luck

hey i got a 250 recon that i jump. look at my page. i'd say u could make the jump as big as you want it within limits. on one of my ramps i built one that will put me in bout 4 ft of air and land rite ona hill so my shocks arent even a problem. ill get pics of it soon if that doesnt make cents.

Posted by: quadduck

It all depends on what kind of jumping is going to be attempted.

Posted by: silverbullet2005

I have a 2004 Polaris Sportsman 700EFI and love to wheelie and Jump, actually when I'm out riding with my friends they all tend to stop at all the mud pits because I am always the one to dive in and do the mud bogging, and always the one to hit the jumps and do the wheelies as well. I have a good picture of myself jumping the sportsman, you can view it by clicking on the My Photos link below.

Posted by: spyder6

ok, first before I start talking, I know you guys are going to start saying that my quad isnt made for sport use, i'll probebly hurt myself, and if wanted to do this crap i should have gotten a sport quad. so, reason being i didnt get a preddy was that i wanted something with 4 wheel drive, and alot of ground clearence, so i got the best of both worlds and got myself a sportsman 800.

im figureing on for my birthday getting some new tires and rims for off roading and utility perposes as these new PXT tires suit sport utility-ing just fine. i know the front end is sturdy on the 800 as it dosnt even make a sound (you know what i mean) when i pull wheelies and the front slams down. so, what would you guys guess is the limate on what my quad can handle as far as landing on from jumps. im not going to be doing anything rediciouasly insain that only MX riders attempt, but i wanna have fun and i want to push my quad to the limate.

also on after you guys respond to that, is their any modifications i can do to my quad to make it more sporty then i already have it, and is there anything i can get for it to protect it further agaisnt jumps or hard landings when im offroading.

and a last thing, does anyone know of any manufacturers who are making new pipes for the 800 yet? i know companys are gonna have a wild time coming up with drawings for a harley sounding quad but anyone know of any?

Posted by: spyder6

lol, thanks, but i live on 5 acers of treeless land so my dad is getting dirt deliverd in the spring for a garden that my mom alwase wanted to build, he said i could have part of the dirt, so im going to make some ramps, nothing really high, but like maybe launch the quad 3 feet up.

Posted by: spyder6

i dont know the exact, but it looks like a 2 inch pipe at the rear, its pretty big ass, ive been thinking if maybe a car exaust would fit on one of these suckers

Posted by: spyder6

heheh, nice pictures, ive been jumping mine off a asfault drop off at the end of a culdisac my friend lives on, the ground drops off and the assfault has a big ramp style end to it. i hit it at about 15mph and got about 3 feet of air off it. i did it again at about 30 and my front shocks bottomed out and my skidplate grabbed the road and took a massive chunk with it. so... heheh, my skid plate is fine, little scratched up and dented on the bottom, everything is intact, exept the road, LOL

anyway, later on we got some yellow spray paint went back and wrote around the missing chunk "OWEND BY POLARIS" and put a box around it. yeah its vandalisim, but it was friggin funny. the guy on the other side of the caldisac is another rider and we showed it to him and he just started laughing his ass off and demanded that i do it again for his video camera. wouldent ever grab the road again though

Posted by: spyder6

well so far i have 800 bucks that ive saved up for the CRF since i posted that (birthday money too which isnt much, but still) and so far, no problems with the 8, everything is flawless, and the skid plate it minor. im impressed with this quads durrability. although, the belt problem worries me.

Posted by: spyder6

ooo maybe a new head with the camshaft acting directly on the valves!

Posted by: spyder6

i dont want a sport quad, if i wanted one, i wouldent have saved 8000 dollers for a ute. no offence, but i think thats pretty obvious

Posted by: spyder6

nice, curls, how was the landing on that?

Posted by: spyder6

well your on the extreme of what i would ever do, 3 feet and above are for sports and dirtbikes. but i just do minor stuff with my 800. i put my weight in the back of it when i pull it on a ramp so the rears will touch first, the EBS will grab, and the front will slam down. i got it all figured out. sad story, but i feel that i know what im doing.

why is everyone being so negative, if you had a bad opinion, dont post it and go away, i dont need to waste my time reading that crap. i know the risks assosiated with jumping a 800 pound 4 wheeler, im not an idiot

Hot seat is working on a true dual exhaust for the 800, unless it's already out?
