i've got a 01 bb and the shifting is notchy, and if you pull up slightly or push down on the shifter you are slipping the clutch, unless the neutral light comes on, hoped i helped a little.

Your talking about a big bear? My Honda rancher does the exact same thing. Always when I first shift into 1st. never when I go from 1st to neutral then back. Only after Ive been in 1st for a while.

yeah...is there a hand clutch kit for the bigbear?...i always wanted a hand clutch...never really thought about it on the bigbear...that would be cool though...if it works fine its probley fine...mines a little knotchy too...just make sure ur foot isnt on the shifter at all when ur riding

Sounds like your not letting off the gas when you shift. Just an Idea.

The BB has a clunky type sound when changing gears, just as the valves tap a little loud. If you get a clutch conversion, you might run into trouble if you get stuck or hung up. I like to be able to teather the throttle sometimes while not on the quad in spots I'am hung. A conversion to a handlebar lever would eliminate this.

Yeah- I've had trouble shifting out of reverse when on an incline or sompin, I just grab the brake and rock a little. Usually if I just grab the brake and let out, then lift up on the shifter it comes out of reverse, dont know why. Dont do neutral drops

The rough shifting is normal on big bears, and if you hold down the shifter it will decompress the clutch, some people put a jockey type shifter on them but you have to shift it with your hand, also check and make sure that the shifter isn't bent under the case and hitting the case when you shift

holding the shifter down shouldn't hurt it unless youre giving it full throttle when you let it go, common sense, also the hard to get out of reverse problem is normal you just have to rock the bike a little bit as youre shifting from reverse to 1st. normally they do it when its cold

I have a 2004 Big Bear 400 4X4, and every time i shift, it seems too rough of a transfer. it kinda klunks, then goes into gear. Is there any clutch conversion kits, so i can have a hand clutch? also, if i press and hold down on the shifter, the tranny will come out of gear, and go into neutral, normal? let me know thanks!

will holding the shifter down hurt the BB? or is it like a clutch on a car?
