Has anyone had any experience with the new FMF Powerline exhaust, all stainless, baffles, no repacking, or the new HMF quiet series? I am looking for something to work with the mild mods on my motor, I like the idea of no repacking and quiet ( about 92 dB) for the Powerline, but don't know much about the new HMF, I know the racing ones are horribly loud, even the "quiet" ones I have heard are too loud for my tastes, but this new one is supposed to be both quiet - stock sound level or less, and still give good HP numbers. Any info on either one???
thanks, now quit reading and go riding !!!!

MuddyEiger,
Please keep us informed on what you find, sounds like you are looking hard into this. The FMF is hard to pin down, I have found it ready to ship from Dennis Kirk for my Wolverine, but it took months of pestering until it was available. The QS1 is sounding good, Big Gun is another good choice, as long as they keep the noise down, the Big Guns I have been around were race ones, ouch, loud !!!

MJE,
Just out of curiosity, what quad did you put it on, and how does the noise compare to stock? Any rejetting required, or bolt and go??

Sorry I don't have any info but I'm interested as well. Just want to keep this thread alive.

I haven't heard good things about Big Gun on the Griz but that doesn't mean it isn't good on others. I am looking forward to hearing more about the HMF quiet pipe.

I was reading about the HMF QS1 and it sounds real good, but then it was an HMF web site and they wouldn't put negative comments on their own web site. I'll be watching it pretty close.

I went to an HMF web site and it directed me to a forum where they were talking about the different exhausts and the suggested jetting. I'm not sure what the exact web site was, I just typed HMF exhaust and started looking. Sounds like the QS1 will have about the same power increase as their Utility pipe but at almost stock sound levels. That's what I want if it works.

Too bad they don't make the standard HMF pipe for your Eiger. I put one on my Rincon and it's just friggin brutal now.

Unless Big Gun has improved their craftsmanship, I've heard very bad things about the quality of Big Gun utility exhausts. Rivets falling out, welds breaking, etc. What Dirtwheels or one of the ATV Magazines needs to do is a Utility Quad Exhaust Shootout. I read a small, undetailed review somewhere of the new Ecosystem from HMF saying it was truly very quiet and made good power, but don't hold me to that.

I know this doesn't really matter, but can you remove the labels on the side of the QS1? They aren't the most attractive looking things I've ever seen.

Have they improved the durability over there at Big Gun? It may be old news, but I would just hate to see a fellow ATVer buy an unreliable pipe.

Since I have had no luck in getting the FMF powerline exhaust (about 7 months of B.S.), I have been in contact with HMF about the QS1 series. (Also, Big Gun has a new exhaust for utilities.) They seem to have their stuff together. They even have the recommend jet sizes on their web site (something I couldn't get out of FMF). Right now, I am trying to get the Dyno charts out of them and they have the pipes ready to ship.

Well, thanks for the info on Big Gun. That and the fact that FMF doesn't give me a straight answer on things makes me lean even farther to HMF.

Haven't heard of too many people with the QS1, but there have been plenty that have had other HMF pipes. I don't see to many bad things about them. Someone did post in the Zuk forum that he got his Powerline for his Vinny and wasn't that impressed, but he hasn't completely tuned it.

I don't know . . . but to me, they all look the same, covered in mud!

Got some interesting news. They don't make the QS1 for and Eiger. Actually, the last 3 listed on their site (Artic Cat, Vinny, and Eiger) are going to be removed and they will not produce a pipe for them. I found this out only after calling to order it, even after talking about it on their forums. They said that the QS1 didn't work with the AC or the Eiger, but were still working on the Vinny. Guess I'll give Big Gun a call and see whats up with their stuff. Talk about discouraged!

OK, just got off the phone with Big Gun too, they sell their utility pipes for $320. The rep said I should get a 4 HP change and it is 4-6 pounds lighter than the stoker. Also, he said that it should be between 93 - 95 dB. Quite a bit more than the FMF pipe, but they are in stock.
Ok, just called FMF again. Looks like the first pipes (powerline) for the Eiger will be out the end of this month! There isn't one out there anywhere! Looks like I will just be waiting. Wish that I had known this when I placed the order.

I don't know. After hearing what you said about them, I did a search through the forums (here and other places) and I saw more negative than positive. That and the fact that it is quite a bit more expensive makes me shy awauy from them. Like I said, I don't mind waiting, as long as they are straight with me and I know what's going on. Looks like right now, I'll get my pipe somewhere's in the middle of August.

OK, got the dyno chart from FMF for the Powerline on a Foreman (didn't have it on the Eiger). Looks like there is only a 1 to 1.5 HP gain from 15 mph up. Seing this, I don't know if it is worth the money. Big gun claims about a 4 HP gain in that same region. Still trying to get a chart from them.

I ordered my FMF pipe from another dealer that doesnt rely on parts unlimited to ship them things...and basically I ordered it on Saturday...got it on monday. Just look around and DO NOT order online. I'm happy with the pipe after riding the other day for the first time. My quad has some serious punch to it now.

well I put the jet kit on at the same time (i wanted to re-jet) which was simple as hell
its significantly louder than stock IMO...it idles louder but has a much better idle...starts with ease and idles cold/hot without choke anymore. It went onto an 03' vinson 500.
which im not having problems with my radiator fan. I pulled off the 2 wire connection that goes to the temperature sending unit and tried to jump each side to make sure fan isnt broken and it barely moves. I hate my life. I wonder if the 6 month manu warranty will take care of it or if im out another 250 bucks. I did my own service so I dont know if that voids the manu's warranty.
let me know.
