I found out the exact same thing you did. I'm going to be getting a set of 26 in. Dirt devils. The tread pattern is pretty close to the same, they weigh less than a pound more than the Mud Lights and they cost about $10 less than the Mud Lights a piece depending on where you get them.

I never realised how terrible the stock tires were until I went to 1" over Mud-Lites. The machine handles like a sport bike compared to before and seems to go almost anywhere.

I have an 04 Grizz and I found out this weekend that the stock tires or hoorrible in the mud. I was not impressed with how they worked in thick mud, But I was determined to keep trying to make it all the way through or bury it. It didn't take much to bury it so I guess mud-lites are in the works. I didn't figure they would be that good and this was super thick and deep mud. It sure was fun though and the new warn 2,500 lb winch worked flawlessly. I mostly ride through the woods, But on occasion want to go mudding and there is always the unexpected mud holes. Are the mud-lites a good choice for an all around tire ?? I don't want something so aggressive it tears the trail up, But these stock tires just don't make the grade.

will the 26" tires fit on my stock rims ?? aren't they wider than the stock tires ?? I have a camo grizzly and I like the stock black rims.

Just put a set of mud lites on a sportsman about a hundred mile ago. They ride great and seem fair in the mud, not as good as my gators but much better for a trail tire. They ride almost as good as the ATR's but cost less. The mud lites seem soft but they don't show any signs of wear yet.
