Would Titan 489 XT's 26/10/12 all the way around a Vinson be a good setup?

I posted this on the Suzuki site, but this one might be a better place for feedback...

Nebraska tire has them for $40 apiece shipped. They also have 26/12/12 589 XT's for I think $55.

Good point. I am still thinking about that, however the 25"ers have 5/8 tread depth and the Dirt Devil 26"ers have 1 1/4 inch of tread. Dirt Devils from 4atvtires.com 189.90 for the 25's shipped or 269.80 for the 26ers.

Does the same thing apply with the Bearclaws? The site doesn't list tread depth. I don't have a problem staying with stock size, but would like more tread. The Bearclaws are 229.80 for 26/9/12 front and 26/12/12 rear or 189.80 for stock.

Would prefer the Bearclaws so I can stay at 9 inch on front to avoid as much overspray as possible. I would imagine the 10 inch in front get you pretty dirty!

Any opinions???

On a sidenote: Bearclaws 26/9/12 and 26/12/12 = 110 lbs

Bearclaws 25/8/12 and 25/10/12 = 84 lbs

Dirt Devils 26/12/12 and 26/10/12 = 106 lbs

Dirt Devils 25/8/12 and 25/10/12 = ??? Anyone know ???

I do have a Dalton Clutch Kit already installed...

I just don't want to lose mileage too much. Right now the quad is doing awesome - probably 120 miles to a tank.

My riding is mostly hardpack, hillclimbs over dirt, rocks, tree roots. Very little mud. A lot of rocky creek crossinga deep enough you can't see enough to avoid a possible sharp rock. Lot of logging roads, and in winter, snow covered logging roads. Lot of hardpack tight trail riding. Topend seems to stay at 59MPH with stock tires and specified air pressure. My friend has an unclutched stock 03 Vinson and he hasn't got it over 58 at topend.

I put a 2 inch gash in my left rear and I have no idea how - probably one of those hidden sharp rocks in a deep mud puddle.

Thanks for the info. Isn't 5/8 tread vs. 1 1/4 inch tread a concern when upgrading? $80 is a lot of money, I agree.

Why the dirt devils and not the bear claws? I have also heard the dirt devils run small, so does that mean they will be smaller than the stock dunflops? According to the specs on the bear claws manufacturing home page, the diameter is exactly as advertised. The only thing they don't mention is tread depth. If I could confirm the 25" bear claws have decent tread depth AND are really 25" tall I would think that would be the way to go, no?

If you end up steering me to the devils, do you think 10 inch wide up front would stick out a lot?

Thanks. I think I will look at a few shops so I can check'em out before I order online. I don't think the shops around here can touch those prices.

You got it!

Ordered the stock size Bearclaws from 4atvtire.com for about $225 shipped. Wanted a 6-ply, squarish tire but didn't want the weight or the tires sticking out from the fenders. I don't do any real muddin' either. They will definitely be 100% better than the stock Dunflops!

Hopefully they'll be here before the weekend, but I doubt it.

Good question kawasaki. I wish I had a definite answer. I have personally not seen either, but:

I've heard the claws wear better

I like the middle-of-tire tread design for riding on hardpack roads

I like the lug on the side of the tire to help dig out of ruts and hillclimbs and help kick away sharp rocks I may brush up against (again)

Bead protection looks good

I don't need a true mud-type tread

I think I read somewhere they'd be better in snow

How are my theories? kawasaki, it'll be interesting to swap stories comparing the DD to the Bearclaw in the same size.

Cancel the order and hook up with www.4atvtires.com

That's a hot deal. I did look there and saw they were out of stock and didn't even bother to look at prices. How much is your shipping? The Claws are also out of stock. Sounds like two VERY popular tires!

Posted by: AJC629

Even sweeter. No wonder they are out of stock! Let me know...

Posted by: AJC629

Let me know how they are when you get some ridin' on 'em!

kawasaki, got my claws on Tue and put them on on Wed. So far look good and have only ridden them in my yard. Easier steering and pretty smooth, but will let you know how they do in the field in the next couple weeks.

I'm gonna try to run my front spring setting on 3 and the rear on 2 with 7psi all four. My rear tire kept coming off the ground on a long hardpack gravel road so maybe stiffening up the front a notch will help.

I have the 489XT's and must say that they are a great tire. Tough as heck. I have yet to get a flat with them. Traction is excellent. They ride a little rougher than my stock 489 AT's (4ply vs 6ply) but I am very happy with them

I dont run the maximum air pressure in my bearclaws and they do fine. I like to run them with 3.5 PSI all around. it makes the ride smoother on my 450. If I want to ride aggresively and fast on trails, I put 4.5 PSI in them.

These tires are bulletproof. Mudlites have a very similar tread pattern to the bear claws.

Just watch they will have that goofball from Goodyear testing them out on TV.

any canadians know who I am talking about?

i would say that the dirt devils are the way to go you could get the 26's but i'm going with 25 beacause there so cheap i would recommend the dirt devils for you

Posted by: kawasaskirules

well the bear claws i hear last a long time so that should be good as for the dirt devils well look at your back tire that is i think 25-10-12?? and think that would be up front i don't think it would stick out that far but i still will be going with the dirt devils my friend has them on his bear tracker and they hock up really good in mud loose dirt had packed dirt and mud he goes right threw them so i would go with the dirt devils 25 or 26
