The gas gauge on my griz can go a long way past what the gauge says I have run the thing with the E blinking for miles and still have never run out of gas and never used the reserve...

I got 85 miles on mine before I had to turn it over to reserve! Like "RaptorRy" stated the gauge will show empty way before the tank will! I've had the take say it was empty and I only put in 3.2 gallons of gas. In a 5.4 gallon tank!

When I bought my Griz it had 1.3 miles on it. For all I know, that 1.3 miles was put on at full throttle. Unless you unpack the crate and watch them put the quad together, you have no idea how the engine was treated before you got it even if it is brand new. I put about 10 miles at verying speeds to get the feel of it and see if anything was going to break right away. After that I rode it like I'm going to continue to ride it for as long as I have it. I say, break it in like your going to ride it and change your oil and filter regularly. If you want to do it differently, that's up to you.

Just got back from riding today, about 70 miles or so and i it's still on the solid "E" not blinking yet... My kodiak 400 gets about the same distance as my grizzly on a tank of gas (different capacities)

Wait till it breaks in. When I first got my sp, I could only get about 25-30 miles to a tank. Like this weekend I set my trip before we started riding, when we got done it said 30 miles. I still had over 2/3 tank. You will get lots better fuel milage after you break you quad in. Maybe that will make you feel better.

Honestly, I love it. Grizzlies are great bikes, but personly I liked the sp looks better. Also the huge comfy seat, smooth ride and the Polaris AWD system. I'm sure your Grizz is faster, stronger than my sp, but mine does well enough for me. I also liked the 600 Twin engine on the Polaris. The sp was cheaper too, and it had a winch, so I got a good deal. If I didnt have a Polaris, I would get a Suzuki or a Grizzly.

I just purchased an 04 grizzly and in the 45 miles I have put on it sure seems to be a gas hog. How many miles should I be able to get out of a tank ?? I know it makes a difference how you drive it so lets say 90 % cruising and 10% WOT. I didn't buy it for economy, But I was just wondering if I need to purchase a portable gas station. Thanks for any input.

Lizard wizard or whoever you are, I sense sarcasm in your reply, However I have no idea why. Tell me why I am going to brek the damn engine and be able to pull the recoil starter with my fingers by doing what the manual says. I never said I help WOT for more than a couple seconds just like the manual says followed by cruising varying the speed. What would you do drive it like a grandma and carbon it up so it wouldn't perform well enough to run with a raptor 80. I have never ruined any engine during break in and I never go to easy on them for a good reason. If you break an engine in by driving it to slow it will always be slower than it should be. These engines are no different than all the high performance car engines I have built. I am now at 250 miles and 35 hours with an engine that runs great and when I changed the oil it was still clean with no debris so I don't see where you figure I am doing something wrong. To be perfectly honest if the engine isn't broke in in the first 50-100 miles or 20 to 30 hours whichever comes first it is never going to be. If there was no debris in the oil or filter and the valves were in spec at 25 hours I must be doing something right. I may not be an expert on ATV engines , But I have broke in enough engines to know you need to vary your speed and even open it up for a short time to break it in proper and polish the crank and wrist pin and also to make sure the rings fully seat. If the engine is driven like a grandma it will cause more problems than driving it hard. I have seen way to many people baby there built car engine only to find they were never able to get the rings to seat properly and wound up with an engine that uses oil.

I haven't made it to Danbary yet, But I heard it is fun. I have been trying to get the time to go up there with a guy from work, But it seems I work to dang much. It's been raining a lot here too so I'm sure there will be some good mud.

Just got back from a ride this weekend and did about 60 miles and still plenty of gas left. Figured out mileage once and it got 18-19 miles to the gal. after is was broke in.

10 Miles, that's more than enough break-in. You probably got that thing all carboned up babying an engine like that. Right Thunderbolt? I read on a "pro rider" forum that the best way to do it is to practice wheelies for the first 1/8th tank-full of gas. That's supposed to be the way to seat the rings and peen the bearings into the races. Just be sure to check the valve adjustment after every 25 hours... As long as you change the oil and filter regularly. Nothing to worry about, Just keep the WOT to 10% for the first 45 miles.
