yea i have a 325 trailboss, year 2000 and although it aint gonna get you there the fastest it always gets you there. You can leave it outside in a snow storm hop on, turn the key, and that sucker will start right up and idle till your ready for it. Havent had any problems with it I didnt induce myself. as to the worst quad... I've been happy with all the quads i have owned but from experience of my friends and I I would have to say the worst quad is by far... havent really seen one.
Posted by: Sep1
My first quad was a Suz 300 2X4. It was absolutely the worst I have ever experienced. Quads from all manufactures have greatly improved from this dinosaur.

98 400 scrambler my brother had.... nice when it works.... really accent the word WHEN. Every week it was running into problems.

Hmmmmmmmm......So you broke the front axle in 20 minutes going to your tree stand?????? Are you sure you didn't run into your tree stand????? I find it hard to believe that the front axle (being steel) would break JUST RIDDING TO YOUR TREE STAND unless you hit something really hard or abused it....... GOOD ONE........LOL
I'm aware of this.... this is not comman..... Very few prairies had this but this is what it was: the engine mount bolts were loose from factory and when you put normall strain ie 20 in low range going up a hill snap crackle.... Some people even with loose bolts didn't have a problem which admazes me. I notice it's 2002? I heard of one here, I called kawi for this guy because Kawi wasn't going to cover it... but they did. I personnelly have 20000km and 1000hrs. on my 650 front end and right now is the first time I need to replace the seals on my diffi; other than that I didn't touch my front drivetrain.

Brother in law bought matching 02 recon ES's for his kids. Both trannys are garbage, one wont shift electricly and have to use manual. One wont shift at all, just makes really bad crunching noises and will only go into reverse??. Thats two bad votes for a Honda. Although it is unusual.

My 2000 scram has taken many hellatious beatings and came back for more. The only problems that I have had are more rider stupidity relatedimg src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-happy.gif" border="0">

I would have to say our 99 polaris sp500 RSE. On the 4th speedo cluster. Broken 2 4x4 switches and had to replace the front diff. Also gone through 3 belts and 4 batteries due to a factory wiring problem. Most of this was covered under warranty. Its funny that the machine gets outrun by my 01 350 rancher 4x4 too. This machine is barely ridden throughout the year. My step father bought it new and has always babied it. It has been used to haul deer feed and to take him to and from the deer blind. It was always stored in a heated garage. Piece of junk but he still has it. More electrical problems right now, probably a result of the factory wiring problem ruining something else.

our 92 polaris has been extremely reliable. no problems at all.

iv never had an atv that didint impress the heck out of me, but for the worst atv's iv ever seen it has to be a tie between a buddies 03 polaris srambler 500HO, and his fathers 03 sportsman 600. Thay take way better care of both of them than i would ever think of doing to my vinson and i havent had one problem with it in 1800 miles. They have half the miles ride like girls and have had nothing but problems. and the worst part is i can blow the doors off both of them.
Posted by: suzuki4ever
or you could have just maybe had a defective part that the dealer would have taken care of and you probly wouldnt have had any more trouble after that.

IN my opinion it has a lot to do with the rider how reliable a machine is ,I find that if i run my atv like a mad man jumping off rock faces ,hitting rocks at high speed and generally just running the guts out of it I am going home and wrenching on it for a day to repair all the broken parts.If Irun it like it is suppose to be run ,I never have to touch it other than to do preventative maintenance which goes a long way with reliablity.this applies to any brand of atv .
Posted by: hondaguy2
had a old polaris an i could never get it to run. i think it is the was worst quad.
Posted by: KodiakOwner
What is the worst quad made out there? I was just wondering because everyone asks "what is the best ATV?" So I thought I would start this and ask which one is the worst made.

"KodiacOwner, In your profile I could se your an Insructor for the Canadian Safety Council right. Just found it funny to see you jumping your Kodiac, without helmet and in the muskeg... LOL
Is it new way out West...
Have fun and ride safe..."
Sorry about that. We took these pictures before I was an instructor. And I have changed my Ways........ Bought a new helmet and dont really jump my quad all that much.

Ok out of 45 replies, ( some people didnt say their worst purchased quad)
Polaris= 8
Yamaha= 5
Suzuki= 2
Arctic Cat= 2
Kawasaki= 1
Bombardier= 0
Honda= 5
(Total of 23 all together)
Note that I am counting everything. Some older models were not so great. Take this information for what it is worth.

And as for the Muskeg, I have not touched the stuff since the snow fell. I guess We'll see what happens when it starts to melt. LOL

Add one for Polaris & one for Artic Cat. Bad experience with both

Friend of mine call his ATV Artic Crap, almost like a sleed every drive we take $400 ad month after he's good to go back.
He's thinking at getting a P700, he had a polaris 325 and nearly kill himself, (not accidentaly) but walking home all the time. was alone to come back as he had to leave early and half way tranny let go and no more power so hide it in the wood and came back. Now he was late and convince his wife to let him buy a new one.
1 for Artic Crap, 1 for Polaris and ond for my old Rubicon even though you count 1/2, I count that as one...img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-cool.gif" border="0">

Once in a while your gonna get a piece of junk out of any brand....My brothers 2001 Honda Rancher 4x4 ....Tranny apart 4 times......carb replacement...and took an act of God to make it idle
Posted by: Doctorturbo
Ha ha ha ha, good one tree doc!!!!
Posted by: Sod
Add one to the Honda tally. I now own a 2004 Polaris and it has been flawless.
Posted by: TreeDoc
It would have to be both of my brand new Polaris Sportsman's...the 400 and the 500HO.
Why? Well, they're POLARIS! I've been told that EBS will kill me, not having independent front brakes will kill me, having a belt drive will kill me. Come to think about it, by all rights I should be dead now! I better get rid of them while I can! Gosh, I hope Honda, Yamaha, Kawi, or Suzuki will still consider me for a purchase....I might have to pay more but it will be worth it!
Posted by: TreeDoc
KodiakO,
In case you didn't catch it....I was being a bit sarcastic so you can minus my vote for Polaris. I have 2 that are flawless so far!

sorry bout that. wasn't the axle shaft itself but the cv. still it's not fun to come home with a new toy and break it. i'm sure there are alot of people that have had great luck with prairies, i just wasn't one of them. as for the way i rode it, same as i do my rancher. except my rancher likes rough stuff.

I own a 94 Polaris 400L 4 X 4. It is rock solid. I also own a 2000 Sportsman 500, again rock solid. Have never had a problem with either. I either do or have regular maintenance done. I take care of my machines and they have always taken care of me. I have found that if you follow a maintenance schedule and take care of your equipment, it will take care of you and last a long time. (trucks, cars, ect) Larry

A friend of mine had an old 1994 polaris 4x2 300cc and he could not keep it running. He sold it and bought a new polaris 500 HO in 2002. After replacing the motor, belt, back breaks and left front axel shaft all within 15 months, he sold it for a honda.

Polaris sportsman 400 was the biggest P.O.S. I ever owned,but got rid of it and have been happily riding YAMAHA ever since!The polaris was bought brand new and was one problem after the other and I only put 300 miles on it in 6 months!Also, after their customer service I will never own one of these again.

I had a 1986 trx 250. Man it sucked.BR>
My dad bought it as a "fixer upper"
We had someone rebuild it for us. They were less than professional.BR>
The rear seal on the output shaft leaked engine oil into the rear differential.BR>
I never did get the bike in good shape. This was before I became mechanically inclinedBR>
I do think the the 250 is a great bike. I just had a bad experience with one.
Posted by: hitman1970
Early year Polaris and the 230cc Suzuki's. I once worked at a shop and I rebuilt so many 230's it aint funny. The Polaris bikes were of poor design. No offence to Pol or Suz owners. Only my 2cents.
