My warn caught fire tonight again. The winch is good I just have to keep replacing switches that's all.

I bought a Honda so I wouldn't need a winch. I do have a tow hook on the back for my friends who bought the "other" brands.

TreeDoc, you weren't supposed to let anyone know!!

Since when is Louisiana and Mississippi...in the US Virgin Islands???? I am awake.....or you xhalin????

Who are you kidding.....

I do believe you folks have been trolled. New user, outrageous statement, and then they disappear. Yep, a classic troll. Toss in the bait and see what takes a bite...

Those Rule winches are expensive. $532.00 from HighLifter. They call it the "Cadillac" of winches. Maybe they are good but damn pricey!

I've gotta agree w/ the other guys, most of us run Warns and they perform really well. Not just on ATVs, but on trucks/jeeps too. The Warn ATV winches seem just fine and we use them hard.

How does anybody argue with the most trusted name in winches??

exhalin, I have used a Warn winch for over 8 years on my King Quad and have pulled every thing from moose out of bogs to other quads stuck up to the seats and have had not one problem in fact my friends have Warns on thier quads and also had no problem and yes they use them too. Now if you had said Superwinch/Tusk I would agree with you, mine quit freespooling after the 3rd or 4th time I used it and quit shortly after that from overheating.

As for the RULE winch, I have never heard of it and I do not buy soemething I have not heard of and know nothing of its capabilties. By any chance are you a REP for them? I doubt you use them any harder then us up here in Alaska so I am going to agree with MTNVINNY, you are going to hear alot of argument in favor of the WARN or Ramsey for that matter.

By the way, welcome to the forum's. AlaskaBoy.

Catterman, I do live in the hardest and most abusive part of Anchorage, I live in Spenard. AlaskaBoy.

I was not trolled, I asked him on the first reply if he was a REP for this company and I did notice he had just signed up and welcomed him to the forums.

I have noticed a couple of different vendors come on here in the last couple of months soliticing business with out paying to advertise on this site.

JohnO, is this what you were meaning by trolled or is this just some 12 year old screwing with us? Oh well I have to go to work right now, I wish I had gotten a Rule winch today, I doubt I will make it there with out it now,

Catterman, yes I do have some good stories envolving crashes dating all the way back to my HONDA110 atc and few involving a Yamaha 200 threewheeler that had it in for me, but I survived regardless of the many pounds of flesh it took from me. AlaskaBoy.

I gotta wake up? LOL!!!

Yeah, you're right....Rule makes a mean Bilge Pump and Live Well Aerator and K-Mart sells them like Hot Cakes!! I should really get out today and remove all the Warns that I have on my work trucks, personal trucks, my 400 Sportsman, oh! and cancel the shipment on the new 3.0ci that's enroute for my new Sportsman 500HO. Dang, I'm glad I read this cause after spending about 6-7 grand on winches over the years and having no problems aside from 1 contactor issue, I could have really got burned by by Warn!

Thanks for the heads up Xhalin!

Kawi650...for REAL? Does Warn know about that? I had a contactor/thumbswitch go bad on my 400 and the guy at the designated warranty center mentioned that he sees some burned up thumbswitches, contactors, and occasionally winches. Maybe you have a problem child that they will take care of?

Why is it that everyone thinks the area they live in is the hardest, and most abusive in the world. You need to get our more often.

And my old man has a 1500 Warn on his 2000 Cat, that he bought in the fall of 1999 and has had ZERO problems with it. He uses it for hunting, riding, and farming chores in Minnesota. Runs great.

Hey AlaskaBoy, you better be carefull out in Spenard, too bad you don't have a Rule winch...

Also, I talked to John and he told me you have been through quite a bit of crashes... Dating back to 3-wheelers!!! Any good stories?

If you can tow a honda backwards it must be cause your behind it.Things that make you wonder...

I'm quite certain you are going to get a lot of people who will argue with you on this one.

You guys gotta wake up. Warn makes absolutely the worst ATV winch that can be made. Down here in the south where we run all types of ATVs in swamps and worse, the Warn winch just guarantees you a tow out of the mud. The drive dogs and the freespool mechanism is horrid. The absolute best winch we found in to run the swamps of Louisana and Mississippi is the Rule winch. Its the only one we find that stands up to the abuse they are given.

If you own an ATV for 5 years and use them as we do, plan on putting at least 3 warn winches on it or spend enuff repair bills to have bought 3 of them.

Try a Rule. If nothing else, you will get your ATV out of the mud.
