I have the Maier's on the Ranchers, Recon, and 250EX. These bikes have good protection for the engine already, but I thought it would be good to fill in the empty spaces, and more important, protect the frame rails! They are light, and will really take a beating. Like Rhino said, they are more slippery than metal. They have skids for the Wolverine, and I see they have them for the Honda 90 also. Think I will get some quick, before the kids destroy the bikes!

However, on the 400's and 450, I run DG Baja aluminum skids.

The ones on my utes are all scratched up, and I have even pivoted on rocks with them. I don't think I could crack one of I tried. It is a good choice for the Foreman. You already have good undercairage protection anyway, and the plastic will just keep the frame from getting scratched up.

The stock Rancher skids are welded on, so nothing to remove there. Don't know about the Foreman. I would leave them on if you can.

I think that ShadeTree.com and Rockymountainatv.com both sell Maire plastic skids.

I had a Maire belly skid on my Recon. I bought it from Shade Tree. The Maire skids are about half the price of other brands. I used my skid a lot for sliding over downed trees and some larger rocks. It also seemed to help in deeper snow a little. The only thing it had to show for all the abuse were a few scratches. I am now considering putting a Maire on my Foreman. The only thing that makes me nervous is that my Foreman weighs almost 200 lbs more than the Recon. I don't know if the added weight will put added stress on the plastic. It should be fine on a Wolverine. In an old Shade Tree catalog the Wolverine Maire skid is priced at $38.99. The price has probably gone up a little since then.

I think I'm going to get a Maire skid for the bottom of my Foreman. It will work well for how and where I ride. I wonder if anyone has had one crack? (Maire skid)

Is it possible to leave the existing bottom skid on and just mount the Maire over it? I really don't want to take the existing skid off. I really just want it mainly for driving over trees and to keep sticks from poking around. My Recon only had the little piece of metal covering the motor and that was bent in with my first tree crossing. (before a skid was mounted)

I'll have to look at the stock skid to see if it sticks down. Hopefully the mounting points of a Maire won't interfere.

Mad- I'm not sure if Maire offers a-arm protection.

I ended up getting a DG Baja for a little more money. The reason I went with the DG is because I had to remove the stock skid to install another. I thought a DG might be better without the stock skid than a Maire.

I did have a Maire on my Recon and it worked fine.

My Foreman did have a small plate under the motor and the front silver plate.

I bought my DG Baja skid plate from Shade Tree. They also sell the Maire skids.
shadetreepowersports.com Shipping is $9.99 per order.

They are not that good, my buddy went through a set of them in a week, you are better off going with pro armor or dg aluminum

The only thing the plastic skid plats are not so good for is snow it ices up on the skid plate and bends them all to sh!t but other than that there great and when mine got bent to bad i got another set for much cheaper than metal, or aluminum.

I noticed that maier sells plastic skid plates. Anyone bought the plastic skid plates?

Are they tough enough to do any good? Give me some opinions..

Thanks Rhino

Does anyone know where I can get a set of plastic skid plates for a wolverine?

Posted by: Madwolverine

Thanks for the comments everyone. I'm going to order a set asap. Does a maier set come with front a-arm protection?

Thanks again

The maier site does not show a picture of the wolverine skid plate. It says that the picture is not available. I did find a site reviewing the maier skid plates for the 400ex. It came complete with a-arm protectors.

I went ahead and order the skid plates for the wolverine. Hopefully they will include a-arm protectors as well. I'll post a follow-up when I receive the kit.
