I never did like any yamaha's reverse limiter, nice to see someone bypass it. I think my reverse is highrange but I would rather high than low myself... I don't feel any strain on my belt in reverse and that's the only I would need mine in low.

You must admit that your reverse is the best reverse on a yamaha. Try backing up an old big bear, I understand that your tires will not spin easy so you have to be careful when backing up. That new 400 doesn't have low only the 450 does. So Yam put a mid hi/low gear in that so you could see it on a 450 down the road, but with the way they don't come factory with a bypass for reverse it is highly unlikely.

I have a kodiak 450 (03) and noticed it didn't have the power in reverse that it does in low going forward and its because it use's high gear in the tranny for reverse! I think thats a poor design for Yamaha to do.I put a rev-limiter bypass on for plowing mostly and got on some ice and that will spin backwards as fast as it will forward in high gear! Reverse really shows up when your in deep mud and kinda stuck and you want to back up you have to really JUMP on the gas to get it to move. This is one of the first things that I don't like AT ALL on my kodiak and I think some people wouldn't like it as well!

The bypass works great I have it mounted on my handgaurds and with the touch of a button I can disable it and then just turn it back on when I don't need it disabled! I didn't notice the reverse being in high range intil I put my 26 inch ITP 589's and then with the added traction in bad places I noticed I really had to push the machine to get it to spin. I think your 650 engine has enough more power so that you could spin effortlessly even if you were in high range. I guess its one things that I have found on a machine that otherwise is perfect for me! oh well I will live with it and mabey Yamaha will come out with a range select on the reverse in 05 seeing how they put a bypass button on the 04's .You never know!

No I don't but I am working on it. I am in hope to have some in the near future. In fact it is going to get above freezing today so mabey I will have time to clean in up enough to take some pics of it. Then it will be back to work for the kodiak because they are forcasting a foot or more of snow this weekend! get a chance to plow the driveway. What color is you 450? I tryed to get a blue one when I bought mine but they gave me a great deal to take a red one so I gave in and took a red one home. they were trying to get the 03 outof the showroom!

camo man has some pics with his 589's on!

26-9-12's on front and 26-12x12 on rear they work really good for what I am doing with them

I bought a kit from c and s performance off Ebay that gave the directions for it and I just changed it around a bit. The kit shows you the pictures off the box and the wires going into it and all you do is ground one of the wires and the reverse light will shut off and the rev-control will also. I wouldn't dare to tell you how to do it without giving you the instructions that came with the kit. If I can get your address I would be more than happy to send them to you as long as I can find a color copier. All you will need for hardware is a toggle switch , splice connector, and some black wire. You can E-mail me your address if you like to lafngas@midmaine.com

Here are a few pictures of the Kodiak without the c-series wheels
I should have some pics soon with the wheels.

got stuck today plowing the driveway and found out that the rev-bypass doesen't work when you have the dif-lock engaged, the rev control cuts in if you spin up to 22 mph. I shouldn't be spinning more than that in reverse anyway, good way to get hurt but I just thought I would let everyone know.

Alaskeboy Yes you can spin more than 22 mph when you don't have the dif-locked. umm ....I am going to get some copies made of the instructions and if you would like to e-mail me your address I will send you out some...no sense in all of us paying 15 bucks a piece when all you need is about 3$ worth of stuff. I will try to get some copies in the morning. I didn't use the switch and connector that came in the kit anyway. I mounted my switch on my handgaurd on the left side and choose to use a push button rather than a toggle switch. I makes the biggest difference when you get stuck and need the wheel speed in reverse to get un-stuck. Today I got stuck plowing and the ol bear wouldn't spin fast enough to clean the tires out .......push the button and away we went backwards a BIG difference!

I am going to get copies as soon as I can and send some out. I am laided up now because of a leg injury as a result of a 4 wheeler accident so It may take a few days to get copies and get them sent. I can get on the 4 wheeler and plow but I can't drive my own truckSo please bare with me and I will get it done!
Lyle I got your home address and if others want to E-mail me there HOME address I will send them out to everyone I can. Money is not the reason I am doing this so payment is not needed. I have got a lot of info off this forum so I feel as though this is my contribution to a great thing that is FREE unlike alot of other stuff!

Mine is green. That's the color I wanted and they got it w/in a few days. It was already on it's way to another dealership in the area.
I've seen camo's kodiak. It's nice. I just wanted to see what the 589s w/ c series look like since that's what I'm prolly going w/. What size are you tires? 26x? Thanks again.

Hey lafngas, I have ben following the thread with interest and I was wondering if I could get that info on the by pass switch too? Oh on your last post you stated that the rev limiter kicked in at 22 in reverse while locked, but if not, can you go beyond that? AlaskaBoy.
