Go with ATRs you will love them!

Mudrunners don't come in a radial. They have the standard, and the run-flat version. I have around 1800 miles on a set of standard, and have at least 75% of the tread left. These things wear like iron! Excellent hookup in the mud, but smooth on the hardpack due to the longer center cleat. They're aggressive when you need it, and tame when you don't. Best prices I've found are at treadepot.com

The only radial tires available for ATV's right now that I know of are the Highlifter Outlaw Radial, the Maxxis Bighorn, the ITP Holeshot ATR, and the one from Ohtsu that comes on the Honda Rincon. I think Carlisle might make one too. Of these, the Outlaw is the only one available in a 26" or 27". The others are all 25" only.

No simple answer to that question. What percentage do you ride in each of those terrains? The Mudrunners are the most aggressive tread of those, so they would perform better in mud. They have a longer center cleat which make them pretty smooth on hardpack. The ATR's and Bighorns being radials and having the closer tread pattern would perform better on the trail and in snow. It all comes down to what terrain you ride the most.

i have 2 out of the 3 for my rincon..well depending on where you ride,i would get the atr's first, great handling, side bite, forward bite, good on rocks roots and wet terrain, not for deep mud..

bighorns, well heres a love hate deal, love the tire and all it could be,traction good, side bite not so good(better than big lug tires but not as good as atr's)great on wet rocks, loose terrain etc..big problem seems they either hold air or they don't??so people never have problems and others have to constantly keep adding air.so if your set holds air they are great,if not they suck..

goodyear, don't have them but have had other goodyears and they always worked good but will be pricey..

all the above either was experienced by me or i witnessed myself,no b.s. opinions here.just the facts..

goodyear has a new radial out, on the 650 artic cat.(mtr)

carlisle has one also and it is now coming on the 700 polaris's..

Didn't know Mud Runners came in a radial.

I didn't think they came in a radial tire. We have 3000 miles on our Mud Runners and have been very satisfied. I think they have about 1000 miles to go before they go. They could probably go further but I don't like the bottom 25% of a tire.

I thought I read that Mudrunners do come in a radial. Then I checked back to the Goodyear site and can't find the word radial anywhere. Maybe I was thinking about Bighorns. Bighorns come in a radial.

I have a P700 with 26" mudlites, they are a very good tire for trails, snow or mud. They are much better than the stockers. I also have a P650 with ITP ATR'S which really make the 650 handle the terrain. But I hate them the rears have so many plugs in the side walls they look like a porkypine. Dirt Wheels did a test with ATR's on a P650 and had three flats on the rears during a one day test session. Bottom line I like the 26" mudlites much better.

I really like them for everything, they seem to have all the bite I need on the trails I ride. The steering is real light because the tread contact is not as flat as the ATR'S. I was in about 14 inches of snow this weekend, breaking trail for my son's P650 with stockers.
All in all very impressed with the mudlites, their also a very aggressive looking tire. I did notice a small amount of power decrease because of the 26" height.

I just bought a P700 and I've noticed the stock (Dun-crap) tires..suck! I don't plan on doing alot of mudding, but will encounter some on the trails. I've been looking at either the ITP ATR's, Goodyear Mudrunner radials, or the Maxis Bighorns.... anybody have experience with these tires? What do you think? How do they change the ride and handling of the Prairie?

Thanks!

Ohh ok, for some reason I thought the Goodtears were radials? But anway, my research has lead me pretty much between the ATR's or Mudrunners....

Thanks for the replys!!

Ok... so which is the best trail/mud/snow tire? ATR's, Mudrunners, or Bighorn raidals?

Posted by: Vengence

Well.. since I've just bought my first ATV.. (P700), I'm not sure which I will do most.. most likely not snow, even though I have a plow for it, the majority will be the trails, but add in some mud, some snow, some rocks, some trees...lol I just want a good all around tire. I also like to sport ride, and slide the tail around corners.. with the DUN-CRAP tires, it's easy. But not sure how the other tires will effect the "sporty" riding??

Any input?

Hey JDE, How do the Mudlites affect the sport riding of the P700? I've heard that the side bite is kind of weak on the mudlites, and also the bite in reverse is not very good either? Have you noticed any negative effects on your sport riding or off-angle hill riding?

Thanks for the info!!

I have 2 SP 700's.

1 has all Rawhides.

1 had Rawhides in back...and Mud Runners in the front. That one now has ITP 589's.

The Rawhides work really well. But the Mud Runner's are better. They have a bit longer lug. I have the Run Flat Mud Runners. I primarily Rock Crawl, and they didn't work that well. Not the tread...but the sidewall....too stiff and not enough flex around the rocks. I LOVED the fact I didn't have to worry about a flat tire....For trail...snow, etc...the Run Flats work fine. Big rocks...not so well.

Seriously, you won't go wrong with either the ITP's or the Mud Runners. Both will be a major improvement over the Duncraps. That was really dumb on Polaris's part...as the Rawhide Grips, were good tires to use until they wore out.

Not sure what I'm going to do with my Mud Runners. They only have about 25 miles on them.
