I hooked up a switch to mine so it's on only when I need it.

Hadf the same thing happen to me , mechanic said they always run hot. They are wired directly to the battery. I installed a simple on/off switch, and just use that when I need it. I went to get something from under the seat, Didn't even use the winch all day, and almost burned the back of my hand. Think what would have happened to the Brewski's. HeHe

Warn had a recall on thier solenoids, they had a problem with them engaging at any time (even when bike is stored) and catching fire. happened here to the local police department!!!

Hey all,

Has anyone with a Warn A2000 winch using the included solenoid notice if the solenoid is extremely hot to the touch. I just installed my winch and noticed that it was very warm with the engine running. And after flipping the actuator switch just 3 times so I could spool out the cable far enough to get the hook on I checked the solenoid and it felt like it was on fire. The winch seems to be working fine, however, I haven't been able to pull the cable out in freespool mode yet.

Is it normal for the solenoid to run so hot? I have it mounted in the storage box of my Eiger and I'm afraid it could melt the plastic. I think I'll disconnect it until I can get some answers.

Thanks,

Mick

Warn is sending me a new solenoid. I post back after I install it.

Well, I installed the new solenoid today. It runs just as hot.

So I think I'm going to wire a switch to it also. Should I run the switch to the battery + lead, ground lead, or the switched + lead?

I too have a hot solenoid. I mounted it in my storage box under my seat on a 2003 450 Kodiak. I'll ask my dealer tommorrow and see what the mechanic says.

How do you tell if your solenoid is one that is being recalled?

I just checked my solenoid and it didn't look anything like the recalled solenoid. It is actually postioned under the seat with the rest of my electrical system which is much better located for access and protection than my previous solenoids.
