Could you explain HOW you can have an Ind sus stay flat while having individual tire action on soft springs?? No offence but it sounds like a "walking contradiction" to me.

But the GRiz is 4X4 and he 's looking for 2wd I cant think of any IRS 2wd of the top of my head good luck and keep us posted

What about the Polaris 700?

Actually, I think Arctic Cat offers the 400 in 2wd IRS, but it's no speed demon, either, though I suppose you could cram in a z400 engine. Now that might make an interesting machine... in any case, Cats are heavy utility machines, so they don't really have a good power to weight ratio.

I have also been a sports car nut for many years - one of the interesting curiosities I noted about quads is that IRS isn't used on machines built for pure speed, i.e. the motocross style quads like the Raptor, Predator, Z400, Cannondale. They all use live axles in the back.

Interesting to note that the Cat IRS doesn't use a sway bar. Gives a little better articulation on the rear wheels.

Most manufacturers are getting away from outboard rear brakes. As I recall, the Rincon puts it on the other side of the rear diff.

You guys sound like you got a good thing going there. Sway bars do suck, like you said. The most powerful IRS quad i'd have to say is the 660 Grizzly. It's only 600pounds, so there isn't any lighter in it's power level. And with the sway bar on the grizz i've seen photos of the limitations of the articulation of the rear, with-out the sway bar it is greatly improved, so you're product will sell very well IMO!

Good Luck!

Well than the beast he is looking for doesn't exsist!! The grizz can be put in 2WD if you wish, but i find when in 4WD they'll handle better any ways..........

The whole reason why he wanted a 2WD is so that it will be more sporty, and a 250 quad runner is quite far from that to say the least!

The grizz has more power than the rincon (not much) but the rincon handles a fair bit better, so i think it would be the better candidate, now that i think of it.

how about the suzuki quadrunner 250 2x4 or AC 250 2x4. Kindof small and underpowered by todays standerdes but they fit some of the discription.

Hi,

We've been developing a new suspension called Link-X for SUVs. It makes a big beast have any level of body roll (even zero) without use of sway bars or high damping. We've recently been approached by ATV manufacturers about doing a Link-X ATV...fully independent suspension but with near zero body roll and very soft shocks to reduce rider/racer fatigue. Of course getting rid of the sway bars improves tire contact over uneven surfaces, too.

What we want in an ATV is 1) Existing independent suspension front and rear 2) Tubular control arms (easiest to modify) 3) 2WD so we can race our concoction if the urge strikes us 4) Highest possible power-to-weight ratio 5) Outboard brakes front AND rear - if this exists.

Cost isn't an issue as we will probably put $20k into the development process - we want the best possible foundation for our machine.

We've been doing automobiles, so we really have no knowledge of ATVs....I really appreciate your help!

Cheers,
Todd

The only rear IRS I've found thus far is the Bombardier Outlander 400 4x2. It is a nice machine, but the suspension is so much different from ours that it will take a lot of work to change over. It looks like I have only the Rincon 650 and the Grizzly 660 to choose from. I'll keep you posted when the project is complete.
