I have the ITP 589's on my Grizz and love them. Living here in Florida you need a good mud tire. I kept the 25's though, a buddy of mine has 27's on his Grizz and he's gained top end BUT lost some low end "grunt" that I still have. Riding where I ride and what I ride through I'd rather keep the low end "grunt" although my buddy has more "floatability" in the water. Still I go everywhere he goes and he's been known to get stuck before I do. Hope this helps. The wife's Kodiak is getting 589's in a month. If ITP had a 26 in the width I wanted I believe I'd have bought them. Also, the 589's are "squirrelly" at higher speeds.

I often wondered how well the Grizzly would jump. It would be a pretty tense few seconds of air travel.......hehe. Glad to here you kept the rubber side down.

Later.

No I haven't put in a clutch kit as of yet and doubt I will unless I was to go to the 27's. My friend with the 27's doesn't have a kit installed yet either. From what I hear the kit helps you get up to speed faster and doesn't help with the low end torque "grunt". I would have to hear from someone that had one installed before I purchace one. And I haven't put the reverse limiter override in either, I haven't felt that I needed one yet.

Let me explain why you will gain some top end with the 26 inch tires over the stock 25 inch. The 26 inch change you gear ratio to a higher gearing, hence you will gain "some" top end speed. The weight has nothing to do with slowing the bike. Example, my buddy and I both have Grizzly's, we raced on stock tires, pretty much a even race and all depended on why had the holeshot. We both bought the same wheels and tires "589's" except he has 27's and I have 25's. I get the holeshot now everytime. I'm ahead low- midrange then with the 27's he comes buy me on the top end. Its all gear ratios and has nothing to do with weight.

The ratio will change even if you go up or down 1 inch in tire height. The tire doesn't have to be ALOT taller or smaller, just the more you go either way the more the ratio will change. Thank you for the info on Atvoffroadextreme.com, I may do the rev limiter thing.

Ok, let me try this one more time. You have 25 inch tires and a electronic speedo and then take 26 inch tires and the same speedo. The 25 inch tires will spin faster than the 26 inch sooooooo the 25's will SHOW "indicate" a faster speed on the speedo and sooooooo the 26's being that they will turn at a slower rate will indicate on the speedo a slower speed. BUT in fact because of the 26's changing the gear ratio you WILL have a FASTER top speed BUT lose some low end. I hope this will explain it.

No problem guys, always happy to help if I can.

OMG I just had the griz off the ground about 5 ft off my snow pile at the end of my driveway a friend of mine said my eyes were the size of baseball I'm impressed with how well the beast did . I forgot the pile dropped straight off the back side this thing could be one mean tabletop machine. Well so much for the snow melting we just got another 6 or 8 inches spring is further away then I want it to be...

I put the tires on at the dealer so I never go to ride on the 25's still have them and they have never seen air. The tires I love I dont think I will ever get stuck hung up yes but stuck no way these tires really pull threw ever thing I bought my Raptor over ride on ebay goto motors and do a search Grizzly there is usaually a couple on there I havent put one on mine yet but the thought has crossed my mind Good luck RY

If you do get the bypass let me know how it installs Thanks

The mudlites are just replacement tires for the crappy stock tires they are a great trail tire though. For playing and trail riding in the summer I have my mudbugs they are good all around .Why would I gain top speed because the tire is bigger? No you do not get any more top end you loose a bit because the tires are much heavier than the stock ones.stock 108km vs mudbugs 98-100km

Posted by: quebecgrizz

If this is tue why do I NOT READ A faster speed on my speedo you are telling me the added wieght does not slow me down? Then I guess there must be a problem somewhere 25" mudlites speed 106km 26"mudbugs 96km somthings wrong somwhere

Posted by: quebecgrizz

well not really my wieght did not change only the tires weight changed and know if you took the same tire weight but a different size tire it might be it should be faster top speed but more effort to get them going second of all you need a gps because changing the tire size is going to change the speedo reading but bigger tires on my grizz definantly does not make it go faster no way

gotcha thanks for your patients .So the only way to verify this would be with a radargun or gps I do not think the local police force would ablige me so I will get my buddies gps and check it out .I did the stock exhaust modification and got back some of my low end grunt.

hi i was wondering how you liked the the tires because i was thinking of getting a pair for my 02 grizzly, and did you notice any gain in top end or did you lose some. and i was wondering where to get a reverse limiter over ride kit. any help you can give will be well appreciated.

Posted by: maxman2002

hello proemtpff, I was wondering if you had put in a clutch kit or not. I was wondering if by installing a different clutch i could still retain the same low end grunt and keep my top speed the same. I f you have any ideas i would like to hear them.

Posted by: maxman2002

thanks for the info Quebecgrizz, it is very useful. I have heard of several guys who have disconnected there reverse limiter and there differential speed limiter to help with muddy conditions. and i plan on doing the same in the near future. I was wondering how you liked the mudlite tire i have been debating between them and a set of itp 589ms tires and plan on getting a set that is better then the original ones i have one now , I was out this weekend and got stuck bad it took myself and 2 of my friends and my winch to get me out. so i am serious out bigger tires and carrying a extra tow rope to add to the winch cable to get to a solid object. did you notice a gain on the top speed with the 26 inch tires? well thats it for now and any info is appreciated

Thanks for the info proEMTPFF i have heard that to about the clutch kits so i will hold off on putting one in till i have more info on them from someone who has put one in. I just bypassed the reverse rev limiter and it has proved to be useful in backing out of a few sticky situations. Atvoffroadextreme has a great site that showed how to override the limiter and now one just has to remember not to hit it full throttle in reverse because you WILL take off like a bat out of hell going backwards. I am now looking at overriding the differential rev limiter for better control in the mud if you know of anyone who has done this or how to do it please reply. I am glad you cleared that up on tire size increasing your top speed because i know it can really change your gear ratio if you change tire sizes to something a lot bigger or smaller.

Posted by: maxman2002

there are many other factors that come into play also i think, the drivers weight, the true height of the tires because true height of the tires varys from brand to brand i have saw tires that were 26-9.5-12 and they were really only 25 and a half inchs tall. also air pressure in the tires will change the height and speed. i think the factors are to great on tires that are so close in size, I have saw 2x4 handa 400ex go from 22inch tires to 27 inch tires and the top speed was ridiculous, but they lost the low end get up and go. I hope this helped you out.

it was great to have somebody explain that to me too, i knew i would get more top end i did not know if it would register on the speeeddometer or not, thanks for the info and explaining something that was a little misleading.
