never had, but I have been real careful. That thing is just like any other Yamaha, too narrow. If I'm running stock tires, you can't drive a needle up my butt with a sledge hammer when going on side hills. With the 27" tires on the ITP rims, its a different story. Yamaha needs a wider setup on all of their quads from the factory.

Rolled my 660 for the first time Monday doing donuts in the middle of a dirt road. Too much tire pressure for that narrow setup. Scratched it all to hell, but didn't break anything.

A friend of our dumped his new SP 700 twice on a trip last year. Once he was climbing some rocks and it tipped over towards the l/r quarter. The second time just dumped it on its side. Everyone saw it coming except the owner. Scratches only, and a lot of pride.

I have heard that the SP 700 will go over backwards quite easily while climbing steep hills.

Two friends bought new ATVs, a Grizz and a SP 600. They swap bikes and they both agree the Grizz feels way more top heavy than the Sportsman. They have both kept them on all four wheels so far. My friends SP 500 HO feels way more top heavy than our Rubicon does.

Noone I know of - its called LEAN OVER!!!

Posted by: swampdonkeykiller

My buddy kept rolling his '99 wolverine almost every time we went out. He couldn't figure out why it was so unstable. I checked his tire pressure and found he had anywhere from 17 to 22 lbs in his tires. I bled them all down to 5lbs and he hasn't had any problems since.

My wife flipped my (pre Mods) 700 over backwards on top of her in early Jan. That was a damned heavy lift. Two surgeries later, she is still on the sore end of things. Cant wait to see what the final total will be for her hospital-stay/Doctor-visits. THANK GOD FOR INSURANCE!!!

Havent herd that. But add lots of torque, going up hill, and not paying atention, all together can lead to a bad day.

Posted by: firemedic5586

Total medical bills came to a bit under $25,000. Like I said, glad we have health insurance.

I had one. New tires and no problems now.

HOW ABOUT OFF CAMBER!

Posted by: Mort

Even hearing about accidents like that scares the hell out of me. Brings back some rather unpleasant memories.

One thing I l learned when I first started riding ATVs were that any skills you might have learned for riding motorcycles and dirt bikes you had better un-learn and fast. I was always trying to put my foot down or doing all of the other things you do on a dirt bike but with an ATV are definite no-nos. I also learned really quickly that you can&39;t “bail out” of an ATV like you can a motorcycle. You can&39;t lay it on its side or just bail off the back when things go wrong. For one you simply can&39;t get off as quickly and the ATV is spine crunching-ly heavy when compared to a cycle. A bike you can simply slide off the back when it starts to flip. When an ATV starts to flip and you are in a normal riding position you are probably going along for the ride and all that weight is coming down on you. I have had a bike drop on me more than a few times but just once on an ATV may very well put you on the shelf long term or permanently.

Like I said before, while stories such as these might scare us (they do me) maybe they will make us think about safety a bit more. Even when riding responsibly accidents can happen and having proper gear can save your life. Never lose the respect for that 500 –700 pound machine you are on and remember where than thing is going to land if something goes wrong. Be careful on hills, don&39;t ride above your skill level and don&39;t become complacent. A guy I know had a rather horrifying wreck a couple of years ago that left him in the hospital for several months and walking with a permanent limp. The incredibly dangerous stunt he was doing? He was riding to the mailbox, lost a tire in a rut and flipped into a barbed wire fence.

Hope you get better soon Jactup. Rehab is hell but will do wonders if you dedicate yourself to it 110%. Disconnect your mind from everything else and just concentrate on that rehab. No matter what the pain, no matter how tired you are do what the PTs ask of you and then force yourself to go that little bit extra. That rehab is EVERYTHING while you are in it. Everything else is of very little importance. Get you mind right and prepare to work like you have never worked before and you will do fine. Trust me. I have been through months of it.

Had to dig my brother-in-law out from under his once. Wow I am not small 6'4" 220 but dam 600lbs give or take does not roll easily.

Havn't rolled my 450... yet, but my boss has a Grizz, he's had his over twice! Laughs about it! Strange guy that one.

Posted by: Catdaddy

My bud that I ride with has a grizz and he has a hard time side hilling but on stright hill climbs we fare about the same. He has toppled over 3 times now on side hills where the rest of us have no problem. I also ride with a Rancher, Rincon, and Rubicons and the Rancher and Rubicons climb excellent. I think they really shine in the hill climbs with the lower stance and solid rear

Posted by: Catdaddy

Wow Jactup sorry to hear about that. I guess that shows how easy it is for things to go wrong. I guess things could have been worse. I'm not sure where New Paris, PA is but I just wondered if you were Lifeflighted to Geisinger hospital in Danville PA? Are you fully recovered now?

Posted by: Catdaddy

Sorry to hear about that Jactup. It definately makes me think a bit more when doing some steep hill climbs and other stunts when I hear a story like that. I wish you the best and a full recovery.

I almost had my outlander come over on me... I was going up a rutted hill and my left rear tire slipped into one of the ruts and the right front came up.. If i would have had wider tires it wouldnt have happend..

Posted by: camarojsc

The rear wheels don't have enough outer offset to them. That makes them turn over easier, Wheel spacers, wider wheels, wider tires, each of these will help in the stability of you bike.

Well thats what i heard and was thinking about why i would want a grizzly. Are the sp500's that way too?

Posted by: JactUpVinson

I rolled my Vinson when the front came up on me going up a small steephill. I bailed to the side in a sitting position when that damn 600lbs zuk rolled over me in stead of downhill. I felt 4 pops in my back and proceded to stand up. The immediate pain in my hips and lower ribs dropped me. To make a long story short. My buddy loaded my quad and i drove home and then to local hospital where x rays and ct scans shows i had a 100% crushed T12 verte. I had to be lifeflighted($11000) 9 hours under the knife ($120000)yep thats right, now i have one less rib which was used to reconstruct my T12. It coulda been worse i was not wearing a hemet and i had bone fragments pushing into my spinal cord. This just proves on a hill you may have climbed 50 times before always be prepared and were that helmet. Laying in that hospital bed after surgery with tubes in my lung

Posted by: JactUpVinson

My surgery was performed by Dr. Madson at Conemaugh in Johnstown Pa. I have been out of work for 11 weeks. I have to wear a plastic back brace for another month then rehab begins. Thanx for asking

Posted by: JactUpVinson

Thanx Mort I appreciate the good advice. Thats pretty funny what you said about putting your foot down on a quad because of being accustomed to a dirtbike, because I did the same darn thing the first time I rode a 3-wheeler(I had a B and B ankle for days). I don't know if I said it before but I had on no helmet(big rocks that coulda crushed my skull like a canteloupe) and the neurosurgeon said it was the closest bone fragments he has ever seen to the cord with out causing paralysis, so I am DAMN lucky and I thank GOD. But I am gonna tell every other rider I know(not only cause chicks like seeing scars) but to let people know I climbed this small hill 50 times before and I have seen 20 other quads and bikes do it, just always look out for your safety cause most of your buddies that you are trying to impress are not gonna. I dont want to scare people from riding and trying new trails, jumps, and hillclimbs because I cant wait to get back on quad, in fact, im gonna hit that hillclimb I wrecked(just a little slower). I had many people(mostly non-riders) ask me if I was gonna sell the zuk'. But most fellow riders know that you learn from mistakes an try again. Thanx for giving me some fellow rider input on this subject.
