I think your local dealers are full of s**t. The performance specifications for both the A2500 and the U2500 are identical. The only real difference is the way the winch is controlled. The A2500 uses a remote contoled industrial contactor while the U2500 uses a motor mounted rotary switch.
One thing you might want to consider is that some winch mounts have very limited clearance between the winch motor and the mount itself. This is where the rotary switch mounts on the U2500.

Yes I do think you can use it! The relationship of winch pull versus amps consumed is the same as the ATV winches. The motor is the very same .9 hp unit used on all the ATV winches.
I wouldn't worry about using it at all!!!
I have the A2500 on my Polaris 350L and I have never had any problems using the winch whatsoever, and I am using the stock 14 amp-hour battery that came on my ATV and it works fine.
A larger battery will allow more run time with the winch, but you should be okay with the stock ATV battery.

Will a Warn model U2500 work on an ATV? I was told by local dealers that the amps needed to run this winch are higher than that of the A2000 or the A2500. I was also told by other dealers that it would work just fine. Anyone have experience with this winch?

so, do you think that I can use it then? Warn says that you need at least a 500 CCA battery for it. I will have to check to see if they make a heavy duty ATV battery for it...
