Does anyone know the specs on the cable shipped on the ATV2000 winch from Superwinch. After a winter of plowing, I'm looking at replacing the cable. Wish I had know in the fall to replace it with a short piece.

Well, I don't think it can easily be done on my '99 KQ. I have looked at it in the past, but short of redesigning the front bumper, I didn't see how it would fit behind it. Suzuki did just that for the 2000 model year... redesign the front with a little winch basket arrangement. But, it still places the winch down low, and reduces your clearance when climbing. I am told Suzuki does sell a retrofit kit for older models, but its a bit pricy. I removed the tool carrier in the back, and made a custom mount for the winch there. It's under the fenders and out of sight. It stays pretty well protected. If there is something that I can't get through by driving forwards, I back into it and winch myself through.

500DUSE, that was part of the reason I was looking for the details on the cable. I wanted to make a small length up just for the plow. I tried this the other night and I learned something. The difference in diameter of the drum between no cable, and 50' of cable is enough to double the time it requires to lift the blade. I'm getting about 10" of clearance with the blade fully up. It's taking a long time to lift it that high right now. Two options, put 50' of cable back on, or build up the drum... I think gradually increasing diameters of ABS pipe might work well for this.
trailboss450, what I'm really interested in is what is the construction of the cable, is it 7x7, 7x19, standard flexible, IPS? (I'm a stickler for details) I'm thinking about bumping up to 3/16", but two things to consider, although the cable is stronger, you are still limited to the power of your winch. But having heavier cable is an extra security measure. What is the total length of cable I'll get on the small drum with 3/16" cable? I have the equations, just need to go through the motions to determine that. As many have said here, you can never have too much cable. I think the extra length would be better than the extra strength for me.

I'm not sure if Superwinch and Warn use the same rope or not-Warn uses a 3/16" 7x19 wrap aircraft cable if I remember right. If you're replacing the entire line on the winch, this works well on my warn, I even carry an extra 100' with hooks on both ends for those really long snatch block pulls.

The ATV 2000 uses 5/32 Galvanized wire rope. It is rated for 2800 lbs load. If you were to move up to a 3/16 cable of the same type it increases to 4200 lbs

If you were just plowing couldent you just cut the first 3-5 feet of the cable
