Stroke9,
Here's how I use all of those sprockets.
12 tooth is for racing. I loose some top end, but I would rather have the torque for racing.
Putting a 12 tooth on shortens the gears up, leaving no flat spots in the power-band in any gear.
13 tooth(stock gearing)is for trail riding. With the extra HP in my engine, higher rev limiter and a 13 tooth sprocket. I can reach a 60mph top speed. Fast enough for the trails. A gear for every situation.
14 tooth sprocket is for higher speeds. I put this on when I'm going out too ride in the flats with my buddies on thier 250r's, Banshees's and 400EX's. I can reach a 65mph top speed. Not fast enough too pass anyone, but I don't get left behind either. Very flat power.
ATVgirl(and hubby), 300exSTER,
When are we going too hook-up and ride???

14 tooth sprocket
28 rwHP from the more powerful TC motor
+1500 rpm redline
348lb wet weight
All of these things lead up too a higher top speed. The only bad thing is that a 300EX us not stable at 65mph, and hard too keep under control.
ATVgirl,
We come down too Black River Falls about 6 or 7 times a year. Great trails for an afternoon of riding. It's a 2 hour drive from here in MN, so we leave early in the morning and get back later at night around 7pm or so.
Park Falls Wisconsin are the best trails I have ever ridden. We take a trip up there every year. It's a 7 hour drive one way for us, so it's a weekend trip. But with over 250 miles of trails, it's a great time.
We also drive Honda atv's. Between my friends, family and myself. We own 29 of them total. When it gets closer too that date(10th, 11th)maybe we can make plans too run into each other over there. I might be leaving town for work, but I hope not.

I have a '97 300ex with many mods...It's the duct tape and the rivets that make it really stand out though..lol.

Now see, my ride is gonna seem boring for you guys. But it jumps when I wanna jump, wheelies when I want to wheelie and goes fast enough for me. I don't care if I'm not the fastest one out there! :) But...I gotta look good! So my 1997 300EX has a CEET graphics kit with seat cover on it and a DG front alloy bumper. My hubby had an extra 14 tooth front sprocket so he put that on. Although, our friends are starting to buy 400EX's, so I'm gonna have to do something so I don't get left so far behind! ;)

300exSTER -- Hey, you don't have to tell me that there's nothing wrong with my ride. ;) It works for me and I have a blast...that's all that matters! If you're riding in BRF on the afternoon of 6/10 or the morning of 6/11, watch for me! I'll be there!

>>ATVgirl(and hubby), 300exSTER,
When are we going too hook-up and ride???<<
cstark...we'll be in BRF on the 10th & 11th with another couple (we talked our neighbors into buying machines last fall)and then 2 other guys. A 250X, five 300EX's and a 400EX. ;) Can you tell we're Honda people! Staying at the Days Inn...Motel 8 is full, Arrowhead lodge is a dump, and Holiday Inn is pricy. Overnight trips to the trails are few and far between for us. Kinda hard with a 4 year old! Although she'll probably get her own machine next year (E-ton 50cc) and then she can go do the Cheese County Trail (boring) with us. I expect that we'll do BRF one more time in the fall. Otherwise, we've got friends and family around here with land that we ride on.

cstark,
I notice you have three sprockets for your counter shaft. What sprocket do you install versus terrain.

I had my works shock setup for mx and they are way better than stock. they make everything so much smoother.I have a at least 2-3 inches more travel and they have those big bumpers on the end so you never know when you're bottoming. I think they are worth buying for sure. later

You've been clocked at 65 MPH with a 14 tooth sprocket? That's fast for a 300EX
