Yeah Chris in your opinion not everyone else's. If the guy wants to stay on a budget he should get the 300EX $4,300. Compared $5,600 for the 400 EX. And then when this new Yamaha comes out and he wants he can sell the 300EX for about $3,800 and not lose a bunch of money. On the other hand a used 400EX is like $5,000. So which is really the better idea???

Hmmm, according to your numbers, he can get the much better 400EX, then if he wishes to sell it for the new Yamaha when it comes out, be out no more money than your other senario. Looks like you built a case against your own statement.
From your previous postings it seems like you got a little beef with the 400EX. Please, tell us your story.

Well, it all depends on the rider... Granted these days with the govt's eye on us we have to be careful.
When I was 16 I had my 350X (actually got it when I was late 14/early 15). Prior to that I had an 84 ATC200X. After about a year on the 200X, I began to crash it quite often. After purchasing my 350X, the crashes ceased.
My thoughts: I was pushing the 200X too hard (I had lost my respect for it), when I got the more capable machine, my troubles ended. I had lots of experience though (started on dirtbikes at age 6, 3-wheelers at age 10).
Like I said though, it all depends on the person. Some teens don't have the respect, maturity, or experience to handle a big machine. Some do.

he is just jealous. my 400ex is unquestionably the best quad I have ever owned, and I hate Honda. Well, I used to hate honda. I love my 400ex for 4 reasons 1.the obvious handling and power. 2. It is made in the U.S. so the factory parts are easy to get and cheap! No international shipping, tariffs, taxes, etc.... 3. Everyone and their brother makes better aftermarket parts for it. 4. You can use xr400 parts for the motor to make it better. You can use cr125 clutch discs to make it better, you can use xr250 rev box and clutch handle to make it run better and clutch easier. need I say more? I could probably come up with many more reasons. Here's another, the only other bike that compares (at this point) is a Banshee, and with my riding style and Aftermarket pipes, I burn my legs on sharp corners since they don't turn but if I were to pick another production quad TODAY it would be the mighty Banshee.

at age 16 I would suggest the 300ex. The power of the 400 might be a bit much for you. I am speaking from experience. At age 16 I had an '85 Honda 200x. I thought I was bulletproof. I ran the crap out of that bike. If I had owned the larger 350X (the bike I dreamed of) I would have probably killed myself. Leave the 400ex to mature and experienced riders. Beside, it will give you something to look forward to. Have fun with whatever you purchase.

I WOULD WAIT A WHILE AND SEE WHAT THE NEW YAMAHA IS LIKE. BUT I KNOW U PROBALLY CANT WAIT AND WANT ONE NOW. BEEN THERE DONE THAT. THE ONLY SPORT BIKE THAT IS OUT THERE NOW WORTH THE MONEY IS THE 400EX. ONE WORD FOR IT. "AWESOME" BEST ALL AROUND BIKE IN "MY OPINION"

well the 400ex is better if you don't want reverse.

OK.........NO get the 400EX! I'm 14 and have a Warrior (not as fast as the 400, but I like it) The 400 will NOT have too much power for you, as long as you start off slow and get comfortable on the machine. 2 of my freinds just got 2000 400EX's and I love them, I just dont have 6 grand, otherwise I would have one.

Get the 400EX, you do not win races in reverse.

So, Juventus, you honestly think 35 mph is top end for a 300ex? Hello, wake up Mcfly.
The 300ex is a smaller bike that handles tight trail situations better than a 400ex. The 400ex is a bigger better bike in all other areas, however it has no reverse. Buy what you want to ride, ride it how you enjoy it and don't fall off too often. Live by that.
P.S. A stock 300ex will do aroung 55-57 mph.

Depends on whether you want to go 35 MPH or 65 MPH
'00 Banshee
'99 400EX

400's are fast, challenging, and forgiving.
