86atc250r,
VERRRRRRYYYY NICE! I hope you didn't have to kill too many people to get these. I just wish they'd shown the motor though. Still all in all, it looks sharp! Kudos!

I wonder if a Banshee motor would fit in there? Be a nice conversion I would think.
87 Banshee
99 banshee

Gabe, come on, tell us, is this a prank! Looks fishy to me.

How can you assume it's a 660cc engine? The pictures show hardly anything. It can't be a 400ex...It's a Yamaha! I'm gambling to say that I believe it's gonna be a pretty cool bike. I'm sad that they want to compete with the ds650! I mean, the banshee barely got beat by it in a drag race...2/10 of a second..come on. Anyway, I like the way the cannondale is looking, and hope they compete with that; a more all around type of bike with plenty of power. Anyway...

Those are the "secret spy photos" from the latest Dirt Wheels mag. No computer mutation there :)

I originally posted in the Honda group because I knew there would be quite a few people there interested in this new machine... Then I though, this may be a better place.
Unfortunately the tools to delete a post are no longer available to us. It's not like I posted in every group, didn't figure 2 posts would hurt anyone or unnecessarily burden the server, even kept the text short and to the point & didn't attempt to post the pics to the forum....

Nothing fishy, just posted pics sent to me..... Upon inspecting the source photos (which are much larger), it almost appears air cooled. Which sure points to a Grizzly engine and unless they really do something to it will probably be disappointing....
Peak torque on the grizz engine is 28 ft/lbs @ 5500 RPM. Since HP and torque meet at around 5500 RPM on all engines, that puts this engine in the 28~30 HP range, unless the torque curve stays high as the RPM's climb.

Nope, someone else scanned them, and sent them to me to put on my webspace. Not everyone has a subscription, so I thought it would be nice to put them up for everyone to see.
I sure would think that Yamaha would use a liquid cooled engine, but in my pics I just really can't tell. I don't know what 600cc liquid cooled engine Yamaha has to stick in it.... I guess we'll find out soon enough...

The waiting is over!
Based on the fact that it really looks like the 660cc engine is the one, I have compiled some info and stuck it on my page.
I now have HP specs, compression ratio, transmission type, details on engine configuration, and even a sound file!! Enjoy!

I'm not interested in this machine for myself, just thought I would put up info for everyone that is interested. I like all high performance machines, but there's only a couple I would consider purchasing for myself. Like you, I am much more interested in the Cannondale.
The 660cc engine is the only logical choice I can see. I have been hearing from quite a few sources that it will probably be this engine, and given that I have also heard it will not be the 426 engine from a couple different places, it is really the only logical choice. I may be wrong, but no one else had any specs on this possible engine, so I took action, take it for what it's worth......

Well actually torque and hp meet at 5252, but let's not be picky. Like you said, though, at 5500 rpm the hp will be 28 - 30 (29.3 if you do the calculations :-) Anyways, I doubt they'll use that engine anyway, at least I hope not. Wouldn't make much sense to me.

Well Yamaha surprised a lot of people with the YZF400 in motocross, and with the DS650 and Cannondale getting so much attention, and this bike essentially replacing the Banshee, I don't see it being any less than 45 HP, which in a light chassis with 10" suspension that handles would be a great machine. It also doesn't look any bigger than a 400EX so it certainly won't be a DS650, probably very close to the Cannondale I'm thinking.

that looks like a 400ex wit different plastic to me.

So you got the new dirtwheels mag nice scan!
Dirt Wheels also speculates that the new machine is liquid cooled (vent in front for air flow across the radiator)
