yea well in louisiana, drag racing is a high competition sport. we have a wide variaty every weekend at the races, Dirt Wheels even did a article about us. i have 2 banshees myself, they run in the low 4's. some guys can get in the 3.9's and 4.0's and yes we have stagin lights, christmas trees and ET's etc etc just like the real strip

they are 300ft strips

That sounds like fun. 300ft sounds about right. A drag is race of acceleration, not top speed. Top speed is for 16 yr old kids in dads car on Saturday night! A400L (aka Jerry Goodman) went to some of those races I think. He races a '99 Sport. He said they had a christmas tree & all. c-ya,

When I was in Glamis I rode a 400EX and my dad rode a 250R. When we were going back to camp, we raced each other on the Sand Highway. We were going 20 when my dad pulled up next to me and gave me the nod. We both nailed it and were dead even until I'd say 55. Then he edged out in front and pulled away.

Last year me and the kids took a vacation to the "Little Saraha" in Ok. and had an awsome time. It was difficult to tell what was "stock" or modified. We have a 250r with a 500r in it that appears to be stock to the untrained eye. Banshees are awsome--Possibly the most consistant straight line machines out there. Everyone had so much fun I can't remember anything really dominating out there. Our creation would beat most of them but needed better paddles. Some of them may have done better with different gearing. You see some creations there that are for nothing but dragging and don't turn or jump. The Banshee is a great compromise for the big sand pile. Gardner10

What I have I have to say don't really have anything to go with which stock quad is faster but I had to get in on it anyway. I belong to a club thats hooked on drag racing. We have a set of lights built by race america with sensors and the whole nine yards. Our cables run out to 300ft. So it really isn't about top end with us. Our 250 two stroke class is mostly TRX's but one guy has an LT the last year. 91? He has an LRD pipe and a 35mm PWK no porting as far as I know and a cool head. He claims 180psi compression. I have an 87 TRX with a fatty torque, rad valve cage, and a 36mm PWK. 170psi compression no porting. I can beat him if I get a good light. We all run the 300ft. in the 6sec. range. And I can testify that a modified Polaris Sport or Scrambler will haul the mail. Anybody in the Cornbelt that wants to come run through the lights drop me a line. GO ON YELLOW!

Yea I met Jerry at a race. His Polaris is fast. He even got a pic in ATV sport

I read that article, how long are the strips?

Posted by: killefitt

Actually Yamaholic is pretty close except the Zilla beats the Banshee both being stock. I have an old bar graph from 1988 3&4 wheel action showing the times on a 1/4 mile concrete drag strip, courtesy of a Tecate4 web page I can't remember (sorry): http://www.geocities.com/Baja/Dunes/8990/Dragbar.jpg These are 8 run averages by the same driver. I've grass dragged a Sport 400 and he always hooked up better off the line but I always beat him by a couple lengths in 500 feet (short race). I would imagine the 400EX might beat the 250s in a short race since they hook up very well, but in the 1/4 mile the 250s should pull ahead, actually I might get to race one this weekend if he comes out. I should probably add that those numbers mean: 1/4 mile speed (all bikes hit top speed before the end), 1/4 mile time, 60 foot time. I guess they raced the Mojave because it was the fastest 4 stroke at that time, but I think these days a Big Bear 600 4x4 might give it a run for its money. Rod

No they said they were all stock machines, and they were most likely all 1988s. I don't know about the 500 but I've raced many a banshee with stock gearing and pipes and I'd say they definitely have more than 2 mph on my top speed, but I don't have any idea how fast we're going. Unless a stock Banshee can't rev out in high gear but I would think they could. Rod 86 250R

my DS650 ( ct pipe ) woped a toomy moded banshee in a 100 yard drag 3 for 3 . we then ran a flat track due to my riding skills he was able to take me in 5 of the 8 laps we ran i have only been riding for 1 year so i did expect this lose . but in the drag the ds pervailed winer ! ps i have a lt500 piped ported .60 over the ds can not i repeat can not out drag this atv. Also, the Sport 400 and the new Scrambler 2X4 are pretty good drag racers.

i have seen all these quads race at sand mountain utah i think this is the way it should be because i have seen a 98 bnashee with toomey t5's boost bottle and boysen rad vaulves and 35mm pwk's out run a lt 500 with a trinaty pipe 44mm carb and carbon fiber reeds and a pro design cool head the 500 pulled the banshee off the line for a while but then the banshee blew his doors off what do you think a 86 250r with a fmf pipe will go

Posted by: fmfblaster

1 banshee 2 lt 500 3 tecate 4 4 honda 250r 5 lt 250r

Posted by: 300exx

250R will go 70.

killefitt, I checked out those charts. I assume those quads were modified. I have owned all the quads listed except the Mojave. Here is my experienced list of these quads stock. MPH 1. Lt500R=80 2. Lt250R=75 3. Tecate4=73 4. Banshee=70 5. TRX250R=68 The Lt250R and the Banshee seem to be way off the mark. Maybee the Lt was an older model than mine w/different gear ratios. But, I've never seen a stock Banshee do 77 MPH and even a heavily modified Banshee (350cc) will not stay that close to an Lt500R. Click 3rd gear and a Banshee is history. I rememeber a HP Monster Quad Shootout back in '97 when ATK came out with the 605 Rotax prototype on a Lonestar chassis. They ran the ATK605, Lt500R (stock) and Banshee (highly modified to compensate 4 displacement). The Lt won big consistantly and the 605 and Banshee were a draw. You know that Banshee had to be fast. Well anyways, that's my 2 cents.

Scrambler 400 While your shifting gears I'm gone.

I know alot of people hate this questain but its just something that i want to know. in your opinion what do you think are the 5 fastest stock quads in a drag race. Ive always figured a 'zilla, banshee, tecate 4, lt250r, 250r (not it that order) and maybe a 400ex would fit in there somewhere.

Posted by: Yamaholic

the polaris sport 400 is slow and has nothing for any of the faster quads in fact all polaris's should come with racks my guess Banshee,LT500R,tecate4,LT250R,TRX250R in thier stock forms

Posted by: 4Tecate

If I remember correctly the Quad 500 does 76, Tecate-4 does 74, the Banshee does 74 and the other 250's fall somewhere around 70 and 71 mph. I beleve I read this out of an 87 or 88 3Wheeling then later called ATV Sports Magazine. I'll have to get them out of storage and verify. Oh, by the way I have ATV magazines form 83 on(the height of three wheelers). My collect from the 80's is the most complete because the 90's were kind of boring for the sport. But with new machines I think I'll resubscribe.

I would like to go trail riding with you one time. I think you might change your mind about those racks.
