The Outlaw 525 with the KTM RFS 510 cc engine is one of the easiest engines to do a valve adjustment on. Book time calls for valve adjustments every 15 hours of engine time, which is on par with the other sport machines. The KTM engine valves are adjusted by screw and tappets, unlike the pain in the butt bucket and shim design of many of the other machines. From start to finish takes me less than 30 minutes from grabbing the tools to putting them away.
After initial break in you can back way off on the times between valve adjustments. The first time I adjusted them they were a little tight, the second time only one intake needing adjusting. Since then I have not needed to adjust anything each time I checked them.
Once you ride the 525 with the IRS, you will not want to go back to the SRA.

I haven't personally ridden a 525. But i've ridden a predator 500. What type of riding are you going to be doing? The IRS is better riding but isn't as good at drifting corners or cutting cookies. The outlaw seems to be the best choice for a sport trail riding bike. But i would look at a KFX 450 if i was going to do more racing. Sorry i didn't answer your question but just a thought.

I would agree that the outlaw looks to be a good candidate for the ruts with its offering of a smooth ride.

Have you ever drag raced any of your friends' on the two 400cc quads you mentioned? How do you hold up against them?

Yeah that stage one will really wake it up. It's the best price for that package. Buying those items elsewhere one by one would be much more from other manufacturers. I want to look into shedding some weight but i don't want to have to buy replacements to make it lighter, i wonder what i can take off that i don't need. Have any ideas to lighten the load?

I really like that silencer. It's my third one including the old stocker. It's deeper sounding than what my last one was. I haven't even had a chance to go ride it though- only around my house. My last one had discs on the end. But it wouldn't run correctly with the discs tightened up and then the discs kept falling out. The only bad thing is that it doesn't have a spark arrestor so it's maximum exhaust flow but i gotta watch out to not get fined. A good silencer that is forest service approved is 150 to 200 bucks. And you get silencers all day long without the arrestor for under 100 bucks. I got mine off ebay and put it on a wire wheel and polished back up cuz it had rust on it.

The stage one should give you a higher top speed. I have the lowest geared rear sprocket and i can hit 55. It's a 42 tooth and i think yours stock is 34 tooth. You should look at 36 or 38 tooth. My year stock was rated to hit 61mph with the 34 tooth. But you gain 10+ horsepower with the stage one so that should gain a couple more on top end. I think i'm gonna gear up with a 38 tooth and that should pull high 60's maybe 70. But i have a gps and i'll find out for sure.

That's good you don't have neighbors to piss off like i do. But i meant to not get tickets cuz i have to have an arrestor to ride national forests.

Key word "high performance" , so with that of course your going to get a little more maintenance anyhow. Considering how easy it is to work on that engine I almost wouldn't even consider it work. But I love working on anything mechanical anyhow. Could screw around in the garage for hours ever day if I could find enough projects.
If you would like to advise everyone to start a new thread then maybe your time would be better spent "screwing around" in your garage.

look under your throttle mine had a slide that keep it from full rotation just loosen screw mash it all the way and tighten screw back that helped mine alot only had 3/4 throttle before i found it

the ritter silencer is open no arrestor not a problem no close neighbors that care
my neighbor has a 600r dirtbike with a supertrapp on it sounds nice loud though

i know we got off topic but joshk's bike is very close to mine. he has the silencer that's in a kit i'm going to get.anyhow i know high performance bikes require more maintaince but i don't want something that has 3hrs maint. per 1hr riding.did that on equipment when i worked pipeline.i don't mind working on anything, but not all the time.
