Theres a k&n kit that says it gives you 15% more power, so w/ all those mods
you listed probably around 40-50% more horsepower

Thats just what Id guess Im not completely sure exactly how much power you'd
get from those mods

Just for an example, my 86 honda 250r has pretty much an exact copy of MacDizzy's 270cc sleeper motor.(MacDizzy.com)I also have the mods listed in my sig. Now a 250r came from factory with 39hp at the crank. After just about doing everything you can possibly do to a factory cylinder I'm pushing almost 60hp to the wheels.39hp at the crank translates to about 31or32 at the wheels. So I would say that there is no way you are going to get 50% increase on bolt on parts alone.IMHO

1) slip-on pipe
2) knn filter
3) no airbox lid
4) up the compression by 1.0
5) more aggressive cam for mid-top power
6) jet kit
7) cdi with more aggressive timing and higher rev

Im guessing this setup adds around 30% more power- does that sound right? if not, what should it be, 20%, 25%, 40%?????

Seriously dude you might not even gonna get a %40-50 increase if you turbo'd the thing ...

People think if they add up manufacture's claims of 'added horsepower' one on top of another they get that much more horsepower, and that's virtually never the case.

It doesn't matter if it's cars, trucks, quads, snowmobiles, whatever ...

But seriously, I'd be totally amazed if you got that much without something MAJOR...

I dont mean to offend you but how would you know, it doesnt add up to a reasonable amount that is worth the money? I mean- you havent even modded your yfz yet?

but do you have more experience with other quads, dirtbikes, or dirttrikes?

i do appreciate your input- though it is discouraging to put over 1000 in mods and see only a 15-20% gain

I'd think at 25% gain with thoughs mods isnt a far off estimate. My quad is about 30 horsepower so 25% of that is only 7.5. I think I could get 7.5 more horsepower from a full exhaust, hotcams, higher compression piston, kn airfilter, no lid and a good CDI.

Ya can't add the %'s together. Some of the things you mentioned are going to move power and torque higher or lower in the RPM range. I'd guess you're looking at 15% 20% max - final gearing, tires etc also play a huge part in how you can actually use more power too.

Correct, this is the first quad I've ever owned, but I've been snowmobiling most of my life ...

I could be completley wrong, but %40-50 with bolt-on mods is ***HUGE*** ... I'd be completley amazed if single-cylinder 4-stroke, or even 2-stroke motors would see that type of gain, especailly what I'd call a "real world" gain, with bolt-on mods....

I just know that it's been my experience with snow machines, small block chevy and ford motors, whatever .... that you're virtually never gonna experience the "add up the horsepower gains" the way after market manufacturers claim ...

Especially not if you ride anywhere above sea level or close to it.

I could be wrong, but I just don't see how these little quad and dirt bike motors are different from their larger counterparts in that respect....

The percent gain all depends on how you use the parts. I would say maybe around 40% gain?
