never in all build predator stock will run 82-83 mph,if you want an all out top speed racer
get an old zilla in ggod shape and take the crap out of it and you'll see those REALLY run 81 mph stock,
the fastest geared sport quad came to the raptor wich can reach 92 mph with that ratio.
the ds 650 only need at sprocket change and you can reach up to near 100 mph if the engine stay in the meat all
across the tranny ratio.

Ladies ladies!!! obviously everyone here is too young to remember the legislation that was established in 86 when the QuadZilla reached 100MPH...at which point ALL ATV manufacturers HAD TO restrict the speed of their atvs to 80MPH (stock) including the Zilla which now toped out at 79.8...banshee 77.?? SO any kid that comes out and claims to get over 80 on his STOCK (????whatever????) IS FULL OF SH!T Most quads have more then enough balls to exceed the legislation on gearing/performance mods.......BUT NOT STOCK!!!!

My 03 Raptor 660 .. Went 74.6 on GPS
Buddy owns a 04 Z400 with HMF Slip on .. Went 72.2 on GPS
Buddy owns a 05 YFZ .. Went 72.4 on GPS
Could be different situations with other people but with ours on that given day with the same rider .. That is what we came up with ..

Two identical ATVs could have a 20mph difference in top speed with different gearing, easy.....
Does anyone remember Junkyard Wars? Well there was an episode where they had to get the most top speed they could out of any 4cyl they wanted.... The one team managed to rig up a 1200cc Honda engine to go about 140mph with a tranny from a box truck, and a reducer to have two range of gears.... They ended up with a 10 speed that took about 3 minutes to get to 100MPH.....

Top speed...stock...pfff. Top speed on stock bikes is only determined by a 40 doller part. Sure the ds650 has the highest (i think) STOCK top speed but you can gear up pretty much any new big bore or 450 to do almost 80mph with a front sprocket change.

If you want top speed, you can't go wrong with the DS 650 or Predator. If you want hard acceleration and good top go with the yfz 450 for it has the strongest engine of all the 06' 450s.

My quad has about a 2mph higher top speed than the 700 Rappy so I know it isnt the fastest stock. Raced one on dirt and highway & creeped away on top end. I have a 06' Pred. GNCC LE.

I will run the Suzuki 450 any day of the week on top. Stock that machine isnt set up for a top speed battle. People are putting this thing on top and most havent even seen it run. I know a guy named Eric that has one and it isnt the yamaha/honda 450 killer that some people on this board make it look like. It (stock to stock) only edged out my friend Joe's yamaha 450 by a nose in a 100 drag and the yamaha stuck to him like glue on top. Make whatever comments you want but I have seen and rode with one. This little country town eats and sleeps 4-wheelers & when a new one is out it is a race to be the first to have one. So tell another joke.

The only way a stock predator will do 82 mph is either on a downhill slope or in the bed of a pickup. All the manufactures are sticking to the 75 +/- rule (stock) due to liability reasons. just my .02¢

If you want to do 80+ mph on the street, do it in your car, not on your quad. People who want to go fast on the street on quads are the ones that cause problems for those of us that ride slow on the streets to get to the places we should be riding fast.

all these MPH that ur sayin they top out at depends on a few things 1 weight of rider 2 altitude 3 experience of riding c all these things take effect i'm sure that all the MPH said here are pretty close and accurate i'm just sayin there are differences and there are some biased answers some picking favorites some actually knwoing their facts it really comes down to what bike do u have more trust in like quality and performance etc.etc really flying down the rode ur not going to notice the 2-5 MPH isn't going to b noticed that much ur choice man good luck

76mph on my stock ds650.Even drove behind several different cars.And not in the bed if the trucks either.I agree on the 75mph plus or minus alittle bit.I changed my gearing to 15/42 and it was alittle slower around 72-74 mph.My cousins 450er's are the same also.We line em up and there right ther.Even though it sound there engine is working harder than mine.But thats the only difference on top end.Right around 72-76 always.

believe it or not in berlin nh, at 500ft above sea lvl the rappy 700 will catch and pass a predator on pavement an about 72-73 mph. no joke.
stay away from the predators, they are picky, dont start well in the cold, and use metric, standard, and torx bits to fix them. dont be fooled by the fox shox and pro anti bumpsteer crap, its all hype.
they will accelerate slightly harder than a rappy tho. as far as top speed, dont count on more than 70 without buying sprockets.

Hmm, I have an '03 starts with one touch of the button (cold or hot), has never missed a shift, others rave about my suspension after riding it (450r, yfz450, and rappy owners), and after banging a few trees you'll appreciate the pro-steering.
maybe you misunderstood or i was not clear by the word cold, in northern nh, in the winter, it can get -20 degrees F at night. the predator guys have a really hard time getting their machines started in these conditions. my brothers wont start under 20 degrees nor will my best friends.

I have seen a raptor700, ds650 and a predator run side by side for over a mile pegged. raptor and ds were too close to tell, it was right there. the predator was a little bit behind but then again the rider is afraid get dirty and prolly wasnt on it all the way. i would still have to say ds and raptor even and the predator close behind. predator 82mph, lol!

Hmm, I have an '03 starts with one touch of the button (cold or hot), has never missed a shift, others rave about my suspension after riding it (450r, yfz450, and rappy owners), and after banging a few trees you'll appreciate the pro-steering.
Stock top-speed is spec'd at 76mph.
Of course I didn't buy my quad to drive only in straight lines, if I did I would have bought a Raptor.

I don't believe any of you know what an ltr450 can do. A buddy of mine just got one 3 days ago and was very disappointed in his first 2 drags which he was beat by a stock kx100 and a 400ex with big gun silencer. The ltr450 is not a drag quad at all. Its set up strickly for track. What kinda of top speed quad has 18" tires. I am guessing that the ltr does no more than 70mph. Quick acceleration but it hits top speed quick.
My buddy is plenty experienced for a drag on a backroad.
He is about 230 6' 3". Tire pressure at OEM specs 6.5psi. Quad all stock. yamaha's and hondas are faster top end but the zuki is very competitive on track.

I had an 03 DS on a scale at 520 pounds but the scale was +/- 20lbs. So 500-520 pound bike plus the rider that's not bad- not bad at all.

Haha. Just recently i was riding my dad's grizzly. And i was going up this steep hill very slowly. At the summit of the hill there was protruding tree root. My front tires wheelied off it and i started rolling back. My handle bars were going side to side so i locked up the front brakes cuz i couldn't touch the back ones it was that steep. Then it hit another bump and the 600+ pound grizzly rolled end for end right on top of me! I concur that the adrenaline does wonders. I didn't even feel it but my shoulder sure was sore the next days. It rolled 4 times down the hill and praise yamaha engineering didn't brake a thing!!!!!!! The handle bars were flattened but they're designed to just pull right back up! SCARY DEAL MAN

That DS i was on was all stock. I don't weigh enough that i couldn't even pull the tires off far enough to ride it in first gear! However i do like the DS's. They seem like a VERY solid quad.

all i know is my friend has a 07 pred 500 and i have an 07 z400 wit a pipe and jetkit and 20inch tires. and his is just a bit faster on top end on the street. me on my z and a friend on his raptor 700 raced and on top end the raptor left me like i was sittin. it was on a slight downhill run down a highway and i pegged out and hit the rev limiter. he shifted into another gear and left me.. its a 06 raptor 700. those things are fast on top end.

for absolute highest top speed it'd be a toss up between the DS650 and the Raptor 700, the DS650 weighs in close to 500 pounds and the Raptor closer to 400lbs, with such a weight difference, you'd think that the raptor could smoke the DS650, but Yamaha purposely bottled it up to have about the same power output as a YFZ, as for the DS650, its got a rotax engine in it, which are known to have an extremely high output, and the DS650 would need it considering its size, but stock, as far as top speed goes, the DS650 is the fastest

if you ride on the street, dont even think about doing it in my state.... youll just ruin it for the rest of us here who have almost no place to ride. as for your question, you cant go wrong with quadzilla. (lt500)

LOL My incident was very similar I was going up a very steep rocky incline and did the exact same thing but over a pretty big boulder. Started rolling back rolled back over the boulder lost my blance and there I go and here comes the quad right on top of me. Cracked my helmet open, opened my elbow up and busted my knee also. You know that crap you hear the biger they are the harder they fall.... Well it's true LOL. But heck I love this sport!!! I don't have much on my DS it's just really nicely jetted, and changing out the intake and exhaust made a difference. But Like I said thank god for adrenaline

One more note Killa Raptor, of course I can't compete with the younger ones that come out with us that weigh 100 pounds soaking wet. Those guys practically fly out on the raptors. Total it's like 5 raptors a few honda's and i'm the only one with the Bomber.

They are pretty much stock except for the guy I race the most. His Raptor has an FMF titanium something..., Custom Jetted by Dynamic ATV, K&N Filter, and his sprocket different but can't remember what he has. The reason I race him the most is because he's heavier still lighter than me by like 100lbs but I ride with him more often than the other raptors. Sometimes we're neck and neck sometimes he beats me sometimes I beat him, it's pretty much all around fun. This weekend we were averaging 45 mph through the desert in Apple Valley CA. Our top speed was 64mph on this trip. Terrain was not completly flat like other places we drag. I hit a whoop going about 45 came out of nowhere if it was'nt for the good suspension on my DS probably would've flown off.
