It runs great but if it's running and sits for just a little while (appx 1 min) or I am going slow in the trails and not getting a lot of air on the engine the headpipes will glow red. Then I will run it hard like it loves to be ridden and get the air flowin' it will almost instantly stop glowin'. What causes this? Its kinda scary, does anyone know? Maybe better coolant or oil, I currently run Yamaha coolant and engine oil. Thanks for any help fella's.

Coolant and oil will never affect the temps of a header. What&39;s causing that glowing is exhaust temps. The only thing that would affect the exhaust temps would be something resulting in the fuel/air mix. Try re jetting, sounds like your lean.

higher octane generally burns cooler because it burns in a more exact fashion, also the only reason you'd need 91 or higher octane is if your compression is above 12:1

sorry about that....i was meaning 11.5:1...that's what i have in my mojave and they sent a little chart that shows when detonation occurs and you can still run 91-93 with 11.5 and then you can run race anything above that with 12:1 or higher...didn't mean to ruffle you up...but if your putting premium in somthing that's not detonatating or running high compression there is no benifet...you're just spending money

thats not true at all!!!

with 11-1/2:1 compression you half to run it! and on the 400ex the dealership tells you to run it in it!!! and im sure for the raptor its the same!!

THE dealership dont tell you these things just to hear themselves talk!!!!

yes jetting should fix your problem!

hope you get it worked out

at 12:1 compression you half to run Race gas with 11-1/2:1 compression you have the option and with 13:1 compression you half to run race gas also!!!

thats just what advanced machining and powroll said to me when i sent them my engine!

Is that what it is. That i'm running too rich and the unspent gases are burning in the headers?

yes but higher octane burns faster so it would increase engine temp if you run higher octane with regular gas it burn crappier and slower there for the engine wouldnt be so hot

It might be a yahama thing. My buddies yfz quad has done this since it was brand new. We thought something was wrong with it. He made some calls and they said to ride it and if anything messes up just bring it back to the dealership and they will warranty whatever was wrong.
