The best all-around machine out there is the Suzuki Z400! Great handling machine. A beginner can ride it, yet an experienced rider won't get bored on it either. Later when you are ready for more power, the engine hops up really well.
For me, the Raptor is tall and tippy, which makes it a poor trail bike. Never ridden the Predator, but from the reviews I have read about it, I would pass it up too.

Your not crazy! Either one will work just fine for what you want to do.

DesertViper, you make a great point. georgiarover already has some belt drive utilities, so unless he REALLY doesn't want to shift, buy a quad with a manual clutch. Having that extra control over the engine and power delivery is a big part of the fun to be had on a sport unit. Just be forewarned, joyriding on an open class sport quad usually results in a faster pace than the utes might be comfortable with(rider ability being a big factor)

GO WITH THE RAPTOR you wont be disapointed. hr>
Dude, you have no idea what you are talking about do you?A z400 tippy!?!?Wtf?You really need to research more before you make these statements. And you need to actually ride the quads too.The raptor is tippier than the z400 you retard. The z400 is the 3rd least tippy sport there is next to the 450's.You have no idea what you are talking about so dont post if you are just making a guess.Leave the real posting to the people that actually ride the quads and dont just make guesses on how they perform.
Ignore both of these kids. I can think of at least four sport quads that are more stable than the Z quads, and there is no need to jump to "retard" 'K?

Cool. I really like the Predator, and the 05's are the best yet. Have fun with your new quad!

ya the same way the pred whooops right past the z400 in a race. the only thing bad about a pred is nobody gives credit were credit is due!

its OK to do it =)
either of those bikes would be fine for messing around the fields and woods....just pick which one u like best and go for it
ppl might suggest other quads but the ones ur looking at will be good for what u want.....just do it =)

georgiarover,
I'm 45 years old; trust me, sport quads are ok. I would stick with your original plan, but would also consider the new Raptor 700. The handling on the new Raptor is going to be lots better than the old Raptor, and it is fuel injected instead of dual carbs. Dual carbs are twice as much work to get jetted right as a single carb, so a Predator might just be easier maintenance than the Raptor 660, something else to consider.
And don't get a Scrambler or a KFX 700. If you want a sport quad, get a sport quad, not another belt drive wannabe sport quad. Good luck.

I would say go with a KFX 700 or a 400 scrambler. Both these quads are decently fast and they will be much more fun/ easy to drive with what you plan on doing. Otherwise I would say raptor because I think they ride smoother. But I would look into a V-Force or a 400 scrambler if I where you. Just my $.02

I would also recomend the z400 and not just because I sell Suzuki's! No matter what ATV your looking at please contact me we are a high volume dealer and would appriciate the business. We carry Yam, Suz, Honda, and Kaw.
You can contact me (JJ) at jz_xtreme@yahoo.com

Make sure you check out the Bombardier DS650 before you buy. They are big, wide and have tons of power. They are very comfortable and have the best suspension and ride you could ask for especially if you are a bigger guy. And oh yeah, they don't call them the fastest production quad for nothing.

Well maybe you need to ride one because i have ridden it multipule times and it has been tippy and i have also riden the raptor and it is much more stable not saying that it isnt a little tippy as well

and i can see that you are just going by statistics out of some magazine or something you probaly never rode a kfx400 or z400

You can pick either one you want but just a heads up, the raptor is a lot easier maitinance because you an get replacement parts and performance parts a lot easier and there are many more to choose from with the raptor.

Raptors are extremly reliable, plus stock there decently tame but still fast

Hi everyone...I am new to the forum and would apprecate any advice. Currently own a Polaris Sportsman 700 and Honda Rincon. Most of our riding is on our family farm, mostly flat pasture, about 20 acres of woods and a couple small streams. Am looking to buy a new quad as we always have more riders than bikes and have got the itch to buy a sports quad. I am 40 yrs old and will be the primary rider as most of my bunch are too uncoordinated to shift gears (notice both quads we own are autos). Have looked at the 660R Raptor and an 05 TLD Predator. I'm not trying to perpetuate the ongoing battle as to which of these is the best, but am I crazy to buy either for what I need. We will not be jumping, popping wheelies, racing, etc. Just joy riding through the pastures and woods. I am afraid that this might be too much bike but am crazy about the power and looks of these machines. I guess I just want someone to tell me.....it's OK...go ahead and do it. Thanks in advance.
PS Leaning towards the Predator but just barely.

Guys...I really appreciate all the responses and good advice. I don't think I could go wrong buying any of the quads that have been recommended. My main concern was should I even consider a sport quad??? While I don't feel I will realize the full potential of some of these bikes, I am satisfied that I won't necessarily be making a mistake. However, if it is more than I can handle, I will go ahead and tell you that you all are invited to my funeral..... I have to say that I am leaning towards the Predator but mainly because we have a Polaris dealer here in town which would make servicing much more convenient. I think they all have their strong points which is why everyone doesn't buy the same quad. Was really looking at the Troy Lee Design....just love the looks of it but am now leaning towards the Limited Edition after reading that I might be happier with the gearing for the type of riding I will be doing. Thanks again for all the help and I will post some pics when I get my new quad.

most other riders my not agree with me but i would look at a yamaha wolverine 350 it is a sport utility it is semi auto and has 4 wheel and two wheel drive and looks sporty with banshee head lights

Let us know how you like the Predator georgiarover, im looking at traiding my Scrambler for one shortly.... Still having trouble deciding between the Predator and the Raptor700 though so im gona wait it out for a month and see what the new Raptor can do.
I've spent couless hours..... more like days! researhing and the Predator seems to be a sweet machine, sure you cant go wrong with it.
Agree with DesertViper, i looked at the KFX700 but it would just be another Scrambler with more power, still a nice bike though from the short test ride i had on the KFX700 it rode very nice but too Heavy to be a true sport machine.
Damn all the bikes are so nice today, so bloody hard to decide!

both are very good bikes... the raptor is quite tall tho and is fairly tippy on sharp turns... i would say your best bet is the predator... IT SCREAMS WHEN CORNERED
