My longest one was probably like a mile, but I don't do them for distance very often. Like the others said, you can go forever. The only time I drop mine is when I'm going off the road or run out of room. A place like a lake or something like that would be sick.

How is the response on one of those being automatic? I had a Scrambler and it did really good wheelies, but you had to react really quick with the throttle because it was almost like the Auto had a little bit of delay. Is the Kawi better?
Just curious.

Thanks....I had no doubt of the power, but I was wondering if the drive system has any delay in it when you hit the gas. If you kept the front wheels of my Polaris down you wouldn't notice the delay at all, but when they were in the air and you were really paying attention to throttle control and etc. you noticed that you had to stay a step ahead of gravity all the time.

Mike
Why BS about a wheelie over a mile bro? Maybe next weekend I can get the camera out and see if I can get something on video at least a mile, but the way the roads are around my place it won't be easy because they all have corners. My longest wheelie ever was near a friends house which was the length of about a mile long stretch which unfortunatly we don't have on tape. I'd go back to that same place except for the fact that the day we were there we got stopped by the cops and both my quads that I had there got impounded. I never got my Banshee back because the #'s came back stolen...but that's a whole other story.
I do have probably a 1/2 mile wheelie on tape, I've never measured the distance. Go to www.cvboyz.com and go to Videos. Scroll to the bottom of the page and download the 2nd VTEXtreme video there (vtx2.wmv)...there are a couple of long wheelies with me on my EX in there. One at the beginning and one in the middle.
The hardest part for me is staying on the road because the roads are curvy and uneven here so even if you have your air pressure right it pulls from one side or the other.
-Josh
Posted by: JoshCVBz
I see what you are saying...You can usually weed out the BS'ers. Still trying to figure out what people have to gain from lying on the internet, but it's all good, LOL.
I put one foot on the grab bar for wheelies quite often...You can't avoid it for certain tricks like No-Handers and things like that. I also like that position for slow wheelies that somebody will be catching because if I'm sitting down I can't see as good.

I'd imagine it will....My 400ex will pull it up in 5th, so unless there is a HUGE gearing difference, I'd say the 450r should too.
It's about being in the right RPM range, and it's also about timing. You have to time your pull so that you are pulling when the power kicks in. And yes, you will have to pull hard in the higher gears.....3rd should come right up fairly easy though.
Don't forgot about your subconscious....sometimes your brain tells you that you don't really want the front end to come up off the ground, and then you end up not staying in the gas, or not pulling hard...or something along those lines.
However if you are doing everything properly, and it still won't come up...then yes, something is not setup right on your quad.
I'd practice some more though because I'm sure you'll get it.

Ok, I cant seem to find the sweet spot on the DS, It either its the rear bar or it just stays 2-3 feet off the gound and I need to POWER it to keep it up.. However when I was a kid we used to ride the BIG REDS put the foot in the bar and hang on.. Well let me just say that the foot in the grab bar, 3 wheeles and a tree stump dont mix well

As far as the road is. On my 400ex you get your balance point and you can go for ever.
Posted by: mojavekid13
Not braggin!
But on my mojave i can go from 3rd to 5th and then hold it up in fith for as long as i want to!
Once i went 3miles! Ran out of road! So i coul dhave went farther!
Posted by: mojavekid13
Man my mojave wheelies so so so good! I mean I can go as far as the road goes! Tonight I went out on teh highway! NO CARS at all hardly! and any way i went at least 3 miles! Just in 5th gear at a good rev! It was awsome!
Posted by: mojavekid13
Well i can see how because i have done it!
Posted by: bombthreat187
well a normal wheelie i can go untill i have to bring it down ,, to turn ...
but on my girls 400ex i can highchair it (which is sitting on the handle bars )
for blocks and ill even bring it back far enought to drag the bar for a 10 feet or so (to get some sparks )then littel engin break and off the bar and still in the wheelie with out letting front come down ..
she hates when i ride here 400 .. i wounder why ??
lol

josh, that was directed at the people that say they've done a wheelie over a mile on a nose heavy lakota. I've seen some of your vids and they're pretty sick. I don't think putting your foot on the grab bar to bring the front end up counts as a wheelie.

I have gone about half the lenght of the beach at sand lake on my 400ex. On the banshee maybe 100 feet.
Posted by: 87Banshee250sx
about 1/2 mile sitting on my banshee shifting, about 700 feet w/o shifting in 4th gear. Then about 1/3-1/2 mile on grab bar on my banshee. BUT on my 3 wheeler with me and a friend on it, we rode them FOREVER. I seriously have to say about 1 1/2 miles. We could get it up in 2nd, then shift to 3rd, and ride it FOREVER. It was insane. There was just this balance point that was so perfect. On my brothers yami R1, he rode a stand up wheelie at 110 on the highway for 2 miles next to my friends sun bird. It was amazing.

I got a friend that will ride one on a Banshee for 2.2 miles. We measured it with a car. the only reasson he didn't go longer was because the motor blew and fly wheel broke intp piesces. He says put the banshee in 5th and hold it on the pipe and it goes forever

and also have on my 400ex.........

they have really good sweet spots

iv done a wheelie across a lake with my 250sx. and with my R iv done one about 200 feet.

mountainbike - 2-300 yards(when I was younger)
Gpz750 - at least a mile
400ex - maybe 50 yards
raptor - maybe 50 yards

I rode one for about 75 ft. slipped of the back on accident and broke my tail bone. THat was the most pain I have been through in my life and haven't tried real long wheelies in a long time.

Yeah well I rode one 17 miles blindfolded with my wife shifting for me, oh yeah I was also laying down on the seat face up. No really I've ridden one on my Z about 50 Yards.
Posted by: sportyroxx
So what is your longest wheelie and what was it on? I just measured my longest wheelie today and it was about 150ft.
Posted by: PUSHINTHELIMIT
Well on my DS650 I can't do them real far but I'm used to doing them so........
My friend has a 400ex and we were on the local lake last winter and we were taking turns on how far we could ride them on his 400. Well since I'm used to doing them on my big tank it was really easy for me on his 400. I did one all the way accross the lake.............. The lake was 2 miles long. I shifted from third to fifth on the back wheels and and held it about half throttle accross the lake. It was so sweet!!!! I acctually had to let it down or I was gonna hit shore! LOL, I could have went forever like that!!!
Posted by: PUSHINTHELIMIT
Well none of ous have a vid. camara with us when we were doing this. BUT EVERYONE ON THE LAKE FISHING AND OTHER RIDERS JUST STOPPED WHAT THEY WERE DOING TO WATCH THIS KID RIDE A WHEELIE ALL THE WAY ACROSS THE LAKE LOL!!!! Unless someone else out there was taping us it can't be us........ Is there a BLACK DS650 in the vid.???? That would be my quad but my friend was riding along side me with my DS while I was on the 400. It's probably a different vid. BUT, it would be just like that lol!!

Posted by: snowbuster
The ONLY part about a 1 mile long wheelie I have trouble believing is where in the world do you have enough room for that, I guess a really big field. I completely believe people have done wheelies miles long. To me it&39;s like riding a bike without hands, can do it forever if I have enough room.
Posted by: snowbuster
you know come to think of it my whole town is trees and woods but next town over has a vast majority of famrs, so i do see how you can wheelie for miles.
Posted by: XxDumontRaptorxX
100 yards at the sand dunes with my raptor, its easy to get the front wheels up on rappy but harder to ride it out then something like an ex.
Posted by: melbatoast56
On my old warrior i have ridden one at least the length of a football field which is 300ft but on my new v-force i think Im pretty sure i have rode one even longer than that.
Posted by: prairievenom
about 65 yards on my P650
Posted by: hondaracer305
I have ridden one for exactlly 200ft measured by a measuring tape.
Posted by: hondaracer305
Thats pretty funny Aussierider
Posted by: hondaracer305
Um, no they dont make measuring tape that long, but if you mark the spot at the tapes farthest point, pick up the tape, bring it to that point and measure again and repeat the process until you get to the end of the wheelie. you learn something new everyday.
Posted by: hondaracer305
Oh yeah, It was on my 300ex
Posted by: hondaracer305
Pirahna, do you ever have your quads on 4 wheels!?i dont think i saw a picture in there where you werent on 2 wheels, that was cool though, put up some more pics, theyr cool to look at
Posted by: hondaracer305
Posted by: hondaracer305
I dont know how anyone could ride a wheelie for 3 miles and the quad still run, because if you ride if over 11 seconds, the oil goes to one end of the engine, and it then starts eating away at the piston, or maybe you just dont realize how far 3 miles are.
Posted by: hondaracer305
Ive ridden a kfx700, and they have excellent power, and more than enough if you want to pop and ride a wheelie.
Posted by: hondaracer305
I saw the whole thing and i think it was longer than a quarter mile, probly like a half mile or something, it was huge! I dont have places or terrain over here to get a wheelie going good on the shee but, over at my friends with sheerider, i was learning to tame that powerband while riding wheelies and switching gears
Posted by: hondaracer305
Yep, you me and like a million other people know those things have the wildest powerbands of any atvs out when they have pipes, thats the only way id have it.
Posted by: hondaracer305
1 mile is very long, 5 miles is like a 10 minute drive doing 60 mph in a truck, are you sure you didnt get a little off on your measurements?
Posted by: hondaracer305
I have now broken my previous record of wheelies to about 1000 feet, i used the technique JoshCVBz uses(standing on the grabbar and "walking" it real slow), i have also reached up and got ahold of the front bumper(as shown in one of the CVBOYZ videos, the guy on the warrior). Just have to say thanks to josh and his friends video that helped me do some of these tricks while doing a wheelie and doing a wheelie on a banshee like that period.but i still have a lot to learn when doing wheelies
Posted by: hondaracer305
as far as ive heard, the warrior doesnt have as good a balancing point as other quads, but a 300ex has a biggin', i can ride wheelies on it pretty good.

Can you explain why it is not a wheelie? i can ride them sitting down on the seat, but i can do them esspecially better when standing up, to me, if you have front or back wheels off the ground, then its a wheelie IMO.

probably 20 feet on a trailblazer....could have walked one farther had it standing on end....off the balancing point!
Posted by: MnFriesen
yeah bicycles I have a hard time doing wheelies on...but then again I cant do them on a waud very good either...yet...because I dont have a good machine to do it on....yet
Posted by: yellowexracer
About 700ft sitting on the seat, my field had a low path with dirt on the sides so you couldn't drift. I've done prolly about that on pavement to but i has to set it down to turn.
There is a guy around here that did one on a paved sideroad from highway to highway (about 8 miles) on a cr500.

about 300 yards on my ds, on pavment. we were racing while doing them the street bikes won.

One of my old neighbors had a highly modified Honda Big Red, and well let me put it to ya this way, I think the only time the front end was touching the ground was when the thing was shut off. No joke. I'm not sure what his longest wheelie was, but it was at least the length of our road which is about 2 miles.

well on my bike i dont rteally know but the longest ive riddenis like 5 blocks sanding on the grab bar as they say "cheating wheelie" but i only could ride about 50ft sittin on the seat
Posted by: BigScary
I can do it for as long as the road lasts..........
it ain't nothing to be going down the hwy(late at night) in 5th gear and hold it up as long as it goes straight..........
set it back down get it straight again pop the clutch and keep rollin........
it's hard to find the balance point on a rappy(or it was to me at first) but once you find it you can stay in it all daylong.......

Hey Pushin the limit A friend of mine( Mr Miller )gave me a video tape of some 400exs on a lake in central WI doing wheelies for miles on the glare ice .That wasnt you was it. Ill see if I can get it transfered to digital and post it .
Posted by: WISTECH
Nope it was from a helmet cam. After closer examination I recognize one of the stunt riders. These guys spend way to much time on the lake . Its amazing how the otshu pro wedge tire can give traction to do wheelies on glare ice. Even the guy filming with the helmet cam was doing a wheelie while filming. They could sustain a wheelie until they ran out of lake.

On my 79 Honda 110 in third gear in low range, the length of my wheelie's depend on how much gas is in the tank. It's a little bit tricky on my banshee, the whole time i ride one on it, it just want to speed up the whole time.

i can ride wheelies about 100 yards on my ozark.. but its an ozark come on now? i usually ride as long as i want until my carb floods then it falls i usually go real slow and get it right at the balancing point and shift to third and ride for as long as i can..
and come on 2 miles across a lake? FROZEN i can barley get it up on snow with a road under neath..

Re: Bicycle wheelies....
I'm not that great, but my brother has a Schwinn BMX bike that has this enormous sweet spot. I pedaled through a 1/4 mile wheelie, then the brake cable snapped and I dropped it. I can't figure out my mountain bike; I've only gotten a few hundred yards. I think the back tire is too flat - if it were more rounded you'd be able to correct for road camber and turns better.
My brother is the wheelie guy in the family - I've ridden along side him for a 3 mile wheelie he did on that Schwinn (coincidentally, the brake cable snapped shortly after). He's got it down - he can turn corners, uphill, downhill, etc. He reports that he's also done a 5 mile wheelie. He said the worst part is that after the 5 mile wheelie, he had to turn around and ride back dead tired. BR>
For reference, we've also messed around with unicycles. He can do the decent distance; I think I've pushed somewhere between 1/4 and 1/2 mile, but I didn't measure it out. I *really* need a new seat on the unicycle to go for big distances. BR>
Hopefully this being my first post I don't set off the BS-o-meter. I've been lurking here a bit since I had a chance to go atv-ing with my in laws in Michigan's Upper Peninsula in July, and had such a great time that I've been doing my research for a purchase hopefully this fall or early next spring.
[Edit] I adjusted the wheelie amounts after talking to him on the phone this evening. Sorry for any confusion.

I rode alongside him for the three mile wheelie. It took a looong time. I think it was around twenty minutes. While he was going a long, a car or two pulled up alongside to cheer him on, then got bored and drove off.
After he put it down, we rode back to the house, jumped in the car and used the odometer to measure it - I doubt that was off much.
Also, five miles would be five minutes driving a truck at 60 mph. It would be ten minutes at 30 mph. He had probably gone for forty some minutes to get that distance.
If I could demonstrate the huge sweet spot on his Schwinn, it would make more sense. It sort of works out to be like riding a unicycle with handlebars. If it makes it easier to understand the kind of balance, look up Mountain Unicycling.
I don't think a five mile wheelie on a BMW bike is any more crazy than a 90° hill on a quad! (just kidding... )

i can do them for as long as i want without hitting the grab bar, but usually i just put them down. They get a little boring after a while. A dry lake bed in Arizona or something would be crazy to just go on and on...and on....and on....

how about until i run out of room or gas whichever comes first

This one time.....at the sand dunes...... I stuck to a wheelie for about 20 feet
Posted by: BALLS2THEWALLS
I had one friend do one across the lake (about 2 miles) on a 400ex and another did the same on his 250ex......I always seem to flop'er over backwards afer i get into 4th gear on my 300ex
Posted by: 420EX
i can do wheelies as long as i want, even going from 2 side wheels to a wheelie, no bs, i can even stop and keep it there completely balanced for a few seconds and then start going again, shifting thrugh the gears as i go, its not hard at all, just have to know your quad really well, as for the crazy sh*t that josh does lik sitting backwards and doing a wheelie, i still cant do that but i'll try when i get my 400ex back together.

Long country roads, even if they have slight turns in em. If your rear tire pressures are equal, you can steer the quad in a wheelie with putting your weight to one side or the other.

My longist wheelie is about 400 feet on my 03 blaster all stock i did it at sandlake in oregon by pacifice city every one was looking at me.

only about 10 feet with my z. i just started to do them not to long ago.
Posted by: IMPORTH8R
About 200ft or so on my Scrambler. The balance point is darn near vertical on this thing... hard to see where your going.

I can ride a wheelie about five hundred feet on my beartracker at about 50 mph, but im standin on the rack so i dont no if it counts. p.s. I dont no how guys fall off at 65 fallin off at 50 is plenty fast for me!!!

I've been ridin a blaster for about 2 years. The backroads near my house go (81st,91st,101st,111th--each being 1 mile apart) like that, and being as how i always have that thing on 2 wheels, my longest wheelie was from 81st to 126th.....so however long that is like...... 4.5 miles i think, i practice goin up and down those roads every day....... for the past year.... for literally at least an hour and ½ sooner or later we are gonna get some helmet cams and i'm gonna try to hit the 7-mile mark, being as that road is a 7 mile long road (61st - 131st) sometime it may happen
Posted by: Raptoryan
My longest wheelie is on my raptor and it was a little over 300 feet then I tried it again and went over backwards and rolled in fourth gear and messed it all up. I am planing on breaking this record on my new 05 YFZ 450
Posted by: lapeerbanshee
i have been working on mine, but i hate wheeling the V-force because its so heavy, but on the Z i can go for quite a while and it just feels more natural on the Z-400.

miles and miles and miles on my 400ex
Posted by: whitebroskfx440
i'd agree it should pick right up in third my 400ex will and i only weight 120 pounds but then again all i did for about 4 months is wheeliehah but just practice them when i started wheelieing i always thought it would flip back on me until the day i stood it up and after that im fine so i suggest going out and standing it up to get that fear out of the way
Posted by: BigDare
when I want 2 do a wheelies I can't, when I don't want do like when I'm racin my friends I pull wheelies all the time, then I put the front down and then I loose, ba, I hate it!!!!!!!!
Posted by: 5X
longest wheelie for me was about a quarter mile on my DS. Fun wheelies are the slow ones. I go to a few atv rodeo where slowest wheelie across a certain distance wins. That takes good balance! and alot of practice.
Posted by: Vunit
Never really measured mine but know it's well over 400ft, i can ride em longer but most of the time run out of room.
Posted by: scorpion
My best wheelie was 1ft high and 5cm's long....
Posted by: XtremeSkier
prolly 100 feet sitting down
Posted by: XtremeSkier
lol i wouldnt call that a wheelie? to short, a buddy of mine has a real old fourtrex 300, like a 1990 and he just revs the piss out of it in nuetral and then kicks it into first and it comes up really good surprisingly, not to mention its friggen halarious

WOW!!! this thread was brought back this year, 2005, from 2003! ive ridden a wheelie for about 70 feet uphill. im guessing on the measurement. im getting into tricks and stuff now kinda and workin on my wheelies. i think its not distance that matters so much but how long you have it up. although 1 mile + is impressive enough. but once you really get the balance point down its easy to hold it up. not too much work anyways so thats why i think wheelie time is more important that distance in a way. IMO

is that possable?

aerodynamics... im tellin ya. forget the cloths! if you cant lose anymore weight on your quad, lose it on yourself...

my longest wheelie was about 3 miles. it was done on a z400. we were 6 atv's. 3 400ex , 2 Z400's and one kfx 400. and my engine did not blow. i've never seen a long wheelie like that .

has anyone heard of this Josh Lanphear? He is the best ive ever seen I think I heard 5 miles around corners it was something ridiculous. Personally, on my raptor I can get up to 4th gear then I puss out ha... at least a mile though

300ex are nice weelie quads, i never measured any of mine but i can ride them untill i need to turn, Just bring it back to the sweet spot and put put it on.

yeah man on my old trail blazer 250 man i rode a wheelie on that thing for 300 ft once i tried it on our 300 foot drag strip that we measured out when i hit the 300 mark it was in to high rpms to get it to stay up there

1 mile wheelie wouldnt be hard. I would have done one yesterday but i had to put it down cause there was a stop sign. lol! Had it up for 1/2 mile though, it was easy just had to get my tire pressure set right so i would go straight.
this was on my stock 450r, just get your shift timing down and riding a wheelie is as easy as riding on 4 wheels

time to get this topic active again!! k i just bought a 450R. and i kinda suck at wheelies so. lift the front end up in 2nd for about 50ft...then it falls back down. like i said.. i suck haha only thing i dont get is... people say with there 450R's they can lift the front end up in 4th gear without using the clutch.... somtimes even 5th... how is this possible?, considering i cant even get the front wheels off the ground in 3rd gear. i also have the HRC kit.. maybe my quad isnt tuned right. i donno say im in 3rd gear about low-mid RPM's and i punch it. even if i pull the handle bars i cant pull a wheelie.

longest on my 300ex is about 100 feet
longest on a rancher 30 feet
Posted by: ACFreerider
about a mile down a road but had to stop to keep from going into a ditch. I can hold them up for as long as I want like 8 times outa 10. Don't like to do long ones all the time because i have no grab bar so I can't flip then.
Posted by: ACFreerider
You have to know when to hit the throttle and when to pull up. I can get my front end up in 3rd w/o clutch even with the fact of how front end heavy warriors are. With my grandpas little 125m 3wheeler I can get it up in 5th gear pretty easy. That things a blast to wheelie.

Longest tape I've seen was a 165' surveyors tape but I used 100' tapes all the time when I built fences.

well, i just got my 660 a couple weeks ago.before that i rode a z 400.which is now my brothers, i could wheelie well over 3 football fields on that but i am still working on it on my 660....i can wheelie about 2 and a half on the 660...i just have to get used to the throttle response on the 660 compared to the z.and try wheeliing a football field in 1st gear on a z.it is pretty hard to keep the front end up the whole time.

Posted by: Raptor450
I did one on my buddies 300EX for about three miles. One time I did a wheelie on the road on the Raptor 660 I used to have for about 3/4 of a mile and didnt realize there was a Highway Patrol officer behind me most of the time! That made for a bad day! He did give me props on my wheelie, tho!
