First of all, it's not a ban on 2-stroke motors per se. It's just a higher standard for emissions that must be met. The problem with what we view as a 2-stroke motor. Scavaging, non-valved and carberated motors are the problem. Due to the design, raw, unburnt hydrocarbons (read fuel and oil) go through the motor (while both intake and exhaust ports are uncovered). That's purely the problem. Unburnt fuel is a very bad thing for the environment. The technology is there now to use fuel injection and other stuff to stop that from happening. I.e. direct injection, ala diesel motors.
2-stroke is just a process. The way it's implemented is the problem. Now that we've gone over that... LOL
You should still be able to operate your existing 2-stroke motors. It's just production of non-compliant motors that will cease. BRP makes a 2-stroke used in marine applications that's supposedly cleaner than 4-strokes. But at the federal level, it's not a ban on 2-strokes. That doesn't preclude a state or other jurisdiction from imposing bans on existing machines. But I doubt that would happen.

Ok so bare with me here....
I see that all the companies that produce two strokers have ceased production and all, but will us 2 strokers be able to ride on the trails still?? if so i really dont see what the point in the sudden stop in production. please fill me in..... thanks img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0">
