A friend told me a story about a call he made for reservations at a resort in Northern Wisconsin. He reserved a room and got to talking with the resort owner about trails in the area. When he mentioned he wanted to do some hiking, the owner said "Whoops. I just double checked and we're full up for that weekend." My friend grilled him on why the room suddenly became unavailable. The resort owner finally said, "Look, we cater to ATV'ers and snowmobilers. They come up here and eat in my restaurant and patronize my bar. I can't afford to have hikers and cross-country skiers. They come here and eat bean sprouts in their rooms and if they come into the bar, they order a bottle of water and four straws."
