If im not mistaken,,,,it was a 2 stroke dirtbike.
I think it was 3 bikes all together. The others had spark arrestors,,,and they were on private land.
I would like to see the evidence in the case. Seems like it would be a hard thing to prove unless there was a witness.

uh yeah.. I guess so.. too bad he didn't have a safety course under his belt... maybe then he would have known better...

Funny thing about loud anything... we spend our youth trying to make as much noise as we can... and we spend our adult life with a loud ringing in our ears.. and when we grow old, we walk around smiling alot because the only thing we can hear is the thoughts inside our heads.
The deal is this. Use spark arrestors. Sound does not always equate to speed.
Is it just me of does anyone keep getting these pictures of animals and birds puffing up their chests, and thumping around to attract a mate... maybe deep down inside this is a primal act of attraction.... Only we use high tech.....

That my friends, is EXACTLY why you use a spark arrestor on public lands.

That's why it's a good idea to have insuranceIf something did happeninsurance will take care of itAnyways, like B&R said, " That my friends, is EXACTLY why you use a spark arrestor on public lands. " I say even private land. Out here in California, we ride on private land that ranchers use to feed their cattle. If a fire was to starthe would be out the feed for his cattle, and might not be able to feed them himselfnd I know I wouldn't be able to feed them eitherso, you should always have a spark arrestor, on any type of land.

Even if you were riding on public land and a fire started, fires have no boundriesthey jump fence lines, fire breaks, rivers, creeks, canyons,,,I think you get the picture

that would def ruin your day.....
That is sure fire ammo for the hippy tree huggers to use to close more land that we enjoy riding on.

I bet he USED to be proud of his loud pipe.... Maybe by the time he's 70 he can afford another quad and will buy a proper pipe for it.

I beleive the fine was outrageous...u never know if the kid bought the quad used and didn't even know what a spark arrestor was...everyone goes through life making mistakes some bigger than others...but i dont think you should have to go through your whole life having to pay off a 10m dollar fine...which he will probably not be able to pay off because he wont be able to afford college and then his kids will get to have a miserable life trying to pay off their fathers debt for one mistake...i dont think it is right to give a fine that much on a most likely unintentional act of opposing the law...JMO

I like the last part about the insurance usualy setteling, right like he had insurance.

Good point Rescuediver, I hate it when people think they are gaining ALOT by loosing the sparky.

You guys after rereading this thread it occured to me that maybe he was new to the sport and had an old, used, or even a race bike that he was operating ignorantly, maybe he just didn't know any better. Of course ignorance of the law is no excuse, but I can see how it happens

when hes 70 he will be able to buy a spark arrestor for the 60 yea old quad that started it.... not a whole new bike and pipe
Posted by: XtremeSkier
its obvious all he wanted was noise w/o the arrestor on it. I mean if he already has an aftermarket pipe why the hell would he need it to be any louder?? i mean common my HSP system is loud enough, if it were anylouder my neighbors would of called the cops on me awhile ago. The only reason my parents like it sometimes is so they can hear me out rippin around and so they know where i am, but i would never take the arrestor off anyways, never know what could fly up in there
