great story turbo. It shows how well things can work out if you're responsible and request permission to ride.

Posted by: TRV

It sounds like you were Trespassing!!! It is folks like you who cause all of us to lose our rights and places to ride. As far as running from cops, thats an even dumber idea! Grow up folks and be responsible!

We have a similiar situation here in Illinois as far as parks etc. go. But that doesn't make illegal behavior OK. All you will do is make a bad situation worse. Good luck trying to justify your point when you are arrested for trespassing, criminal damage to property etc. to a cop or judge.

Moral of the story......DON'T STOP FOR COPS.... unless you have no choice

Someone from Illinois trying to tell us from MA how to behave. Just a couple of points. There is hardly a riding spot in MA that isn't trespassing. so sometimes you have to do what you have to do. We live in the treehuggin dirt is sacred Capitol (or at least second to Cali) So with that in mind Our riding behavior has very little effect on wetheor not we can be nice enough to earn more riding area. We are human animals who own fossil fuel burning machines that leave tracks in DIRT sacred dirt. The only option we have is get rid of all our DIRT destroying toys and convert our ways to the wackos ways which is go hug a tree worship the dirt and spent the rest of my life trying to close all trails to foot traffic only. Hope this helps

Thanks Sparkey, I ride responsibly, I obey the laws, I respect others property and I know one rider can screw things up for many others. Here's my point, I have Conservation land behind my house. It is posted No hunting, No motorized vehicles. Most of it is swamp or wetland (if it wasn't there would be houses on it). there are already trails and overgrown dirt roads on it. A lot of different people ride here. The trails are pretty much intact. Except for a couple of muddy sections that are torn up I would say that we leave no trace. Now I cannot see the reason why we can't legally ride here. I tend to believe that most of it is about Liability. If the city says we can ride here then they become responsible when a rider is injured or dies riding there. I also ride on power lines near my house which are always posted No Trespassing. I believe the power companies post power lines more for liability reasons than anything else. The thing I would not do is ride on land owned by a private citizen without permission. I also tend to believe at least in this area is that most complaints are about the NOISE these machines make. that is why I stay away from two stroke powered machines wether it be a dirtbike or a quad. The quieter the better.

In ca. it doesn't as long as it's not a DUI , then it does and your insurance will be affected.

I am not trying to tell you how to live, but as a land owner, and an atv rider liability being what it is today and all, I like to know who is on my land. I am not saying folks cant ride there, just have a little respect for the land and other folks. Dont tear up the place and leave trash all over. What 1 person does affects us all. The environmental guys dont look at the responsible folks, they just raise a fuss over the ones who cause the damage, and that makes us all look bad. We must police ourselves. Obey the laws, and act responsibly.

hey guys i ride in mass such as brockton, bridgewater, raynham, taunton, middleboro ive had a few run ins with police some of them are cool and there are some die hard jerks my machine is registerd and yes some places we go through say no tresspassing so what ive been doing is going and talking to the land owners and asking them permission to cut through there property along the tree line and so far its been working they say to me as long as your not going to tear up my property and i explain to them that i have respect for others so when i cut through i tread lightly here is a case and point after getting permission from a few land owners i had a westbridgwater cop try to hit me on my machine and then he jumped out of the car like mcgiver and say to me your on private property and he was going to tow my machine i said to him i have permission to cut through here ive already talked to the land owner well guess what happend the women that owned the land came outside to see what was going on and the cop was acting like a hero and she asked whats goin on the cop explained that he was going to tow my macine for destruction and trespassing she turned around and said to the cop the only one who is trespassing is you meaning the cop she said i gave him permission to cut through here as long as he doesnt do any damage so stop harasing him and get your car off my property i was speechless so he left pissed burnin tires what a jerk she said hes got nothing better to do than to pick on 4 wheelers well i thanked her for sticking her neck out for me she smiled and told me stop in some time for coffee sometime i told her i would bring a box of joe next time through she laughed and said anytime so anyways its definitly worth knocking on the doors of land owners and asking permission rather than just doing it and pissing people off just my 2 cents

hey guys, well found some new woods today up here, also before cutting through the farm , i drove up the tractor path to the land owners house and knocked on the door, a guy had come to the door i greeted him and asked him if he owned the farm, he said yes ,for 35 years, so i asked him would you mind if i cut through your land on the tractor trails or along the tree line ,he said you will probably tear up the grass along the treeline just drive on the tractor paths and no speeding! well anyways, i talked to him and his wife for roughly 1/2 hour or so ,i gave him my name and also what kind of machine i had, that way if i run into any legal problems (I HAVE PERMISSION ) to cross here , i just figure its just comman sense to ask the owners, rather than piss them off ,well this is the 4th house ive driven up to, to ask permission to cut through and to tell you the truth the land owners appreciate it alot more. just my 2 cents

Yes Please do that would be Greatly appreciate

Posted by: psychotic400ex

it shouldn't, b/c it's not a moving violation. Take it to court. you'll prolly win, just show them proof of registration. Even if you take it to court, you'll still have to pay the ticket, but prolly wont have it go on insurance
