03Scrambler,
If you go to NYSORVA's site and read what they(NYSORVA)are saying to write to your legislators you will see that what NYSORVA wants and I quote "a fair, equitable distribution of the registration fee imposed(proposed to be increased to $45.00)on par with the funding split that is proposed for snowmobilers".If you wqant to read it for yourself here is a link to their legislation page of their site NYSORVA .
I do agree that Gov.Pataki wants to pad the general fund but if people speak up we may be able to change that. But if you still want to donate the $45.00 instead of getting registered why not join a group like NYSORVA,ATVA or an area club? What myself and people like Memento and 1st Quad are trying to do is get the riders in NY organized. The snowmobilers wouldnt have anything if they hadnt gotten organized and look at the amount that they are going to get from their registration fee.

Memento,
I know you are into the facts and figures type thing so I thought you might be interested in this thread I saw on another forum.Thread
It shows how much money in tourism and some other numbers and facts in Wisconsin due to atving.

Memento,
Well I know if I was going to go there I wouldn't be going for just 1 day.It would be more like a week.If they were basing it on that, the numbers would be about right. They are numbers for tourism so the people would be coming from out of the state.Did you try pming Steve-o- for more info.He is a very good person and always is willing to share any info to help promote ATVing.

Or Trailpass linky

Im gonna join up with trailpass this year. Its 50$ to join......i just hope our registration doesnt go up to 45$ . Thats just plain insane. I refuse to pay more than a snowmobile. Ny snoymobiles pay what?, 25 or is it 35 dollars?
Posted by: ZigZilla
isnt it 35 now
Posted by: memento
We must act. Send letters and make phone calls to our reps. WE SUPPORT THIS NEW BILL.
see http://www.nysorva.org for details.
rundown: increase registration to $45/yr BUT we finally get trails!
Posted by: memento
uh... no interest? This is something we REALLY need! How many new yorkers have written the congressman about this? Let's see a show of hands.
Posted by: memento
much better! Even if you don't agree, by discusssing it you're bringing it attention that it needs. Personally, I think trailpass is great, except that I STILL have to register anyway and there are no trailpass trails near me. If you look at my photos, you can see the data that I collected. The more $$$ that NYS gets from us, the more the issue of trails will be forced to be brought up and dealt with. If they are getting millions from us, then the issue will be very visible.

thanks for that link. There's some very good info there!
If you look at the document in my gallery, I included Pennsylvania tourism $$ gained from ATVing. At the time I also knew that similar info was available for Wisconsin, but it seemed that people were more likely to think that things are so different in the midwest that it wasn't applicable. With Penn. data - they are a direct neighbor. Probably less than a couple hours away from most of the residents in NY. Basically, Penn. made $5,000,000 in ATV tourism dollars in the given year for the data (1998 I think). That doesn't include registration, dealer sales, taxes, etc.
NY and our eco-nazis are so freaking STUPID! With the economy as it is and with my job in jeopardy because of it I want to go smack everyone in Albany upside their heads!

I don't understand something with that data. Pennsylvania calculated like $15 per trip average - sounds reasonable. Wisconsin calculated $533 per trip? WTF? That doesn't pass the common sense test to me. What's rolled into that number?
Posted by: memento
ok, but that still seems very, very high. Especially considering the number of trips reported. Just to generalize a bit about the averages, for everyone who only spends $15 on like gas and BK, there are an equal number of people who spend $1000? Is Wisconsin that rich? I guess all I can do is wait for a response to my question. Until then I won't be using those numbers because I can't make sense out of them.

I have been beating the drum too, KEEP AFTER THEM!

I agree 03scrambler, but its a start. $850,000 of the projected total increase is only throwing us a bone, but it will get our foot in the door. Snowmobiles had to work a lot harder in the beginning to get trails established without that kind of funding boost. It is a step in the right direction!

Well Said vhcat400i !!!
And - ZigZilla, You shold say "AND" Trailpass. Trailpass shows we are getting organized, and have private land owners who support
our cause. Many Trailpass trails could be tied in with state trails to form some larger riding areas.

Text Check this out. This is the final report that maine came up with. They are finally going to do some thing here for the atvs.
They have 12000 miles of trails for snowmobiles but 2200 for atv's. But now they are going to do something .. Took a buch of clubs and people tired of people destroing private land but. It is going to be done. Here is another it is the plan for Nh. hopefully you could use this info to try to get some thing done.
DON"T EVEN GET ME STARTED ABOUT A GENRAL FUND>> TOTALLY ABUSED HERE IN MAINE.

if you look at the numbers it isn't about creating a trail system but more of increasing the general fund. read into it. just hope i can use my registration fee as a charitable contribution next year when i file my taxes.
