Hey Retro. The way i look at this subject is like this. Not all of us are KIDS.But not all of us are a brain like you seem to be.I myself cant spell for nothing and i read posts that others cant also.Nothing gripes me more than someone WHINING about something they have no conrol over....BOB

RULES of grammar, spelling, punctuation and capitalization do not interest me. However, EASE OF READING interests me. I find posts with no effort applied to organization of thought (involving, perhaps, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and capitalization) frustrating to read. I don't believe someone mastering the unforgiving protocols of the Internet is incapable of writing a complete sentence with a capital letter beginning the first word, a subject and a verb, and a punctuation mark at the end. Instead, I think the sloppy writers are either too lazy to be considerate of their readers, or else, the careless writers are contemptuous of their audience. I wonder, when speaking, do these inconsiderate posters speak "baby talk?" If they speak as they write, the answer is, "Yes." The genuinely handicapped, the learning disabled, the "challenged" deserve pity and sympathy. Also, errors and typos deserve forgiveness; everyone makes mistakes. However, I see no excuse for someone who doesn't even TRY to write a readable post. Pretending sloppy, botched English posts "don't matter" appears an act of denial that does the perpetrator no favor. I have spoken. Tree Farmer

Retro, screwing you up is not my intent, I assure you. I did not deliberately overestimate your vocabulary. If I use any word you can't find in a dictionary, E-mail me and I'll explain if I can. I thought of a couple more possible motivations for atrocious posts: 1) Chat room syndrome. The "in" language use may be zero grammar, spelling accuracy, punctuation, and capitalization. You know? 2) Macho, macho man syndrome. Ain't no real he-man ever gonna mess with them stinkin', sissified good writin' practices. An i kin cuss whenever i want to . . . Tree Farmer

Are you certain "LITERACY" is the best possible title for your topic, retro? Tree Farmer

I like fakie99's response. Notice the cutting down of others, yet his own lack of capitalization says it all. Too funny, RoostKing...

That you are quick to condemn, without checking your own house first... Kinda the old Glass house thing I suppose... or any number of other possible reasons... RoostKing...

Lurch, What kind of MOPAR are you working on? Ive gat a 69 Barracuda in the works. RoostKing...

R34, Currently it is wearing its original colors, White with a red interior. I plan on staying with the same color combo when it gets painted. This is turning into a very long-term project and very expensive! I was hoping for a low budget ride, but when you get a stroker motor built, there went the budget! Anyhow, I will be having some pictures put on the web of the work in progress. Hopefully I will someday have pics of it finished as well!!!! RoostKing...

ALL I CAN SAYS IS I AIN'T GOT NO COMMENT ON THIS 'DIS HERE SUBJECT MATTER. Oh yeah... NASCAR RULES !!!!!!!!!!!!! Now I's gotsta go cleans my K&N filter in the bathtub. That's hows us edumacated peoples do it. Then I's takes a soothing bubble bath & I gets a pink oily ring around meself for some reason ?

In spite of appearances, I cling to the hope that we still out number the mental midgets & knowing that school will eventually start again sustains me. I only pray that some of them will attend this year, leaving their comic books in their locker. Genetically corrupted? I'm reminded of this story: Two cousins talking: No.1: "my dad kin lick yer Dad!". No. 2: "whatter yer talkin bout? Yer dad IS my dad!"

minehunter, (& any one else who cares), http://www.m-w.com/dictionary.htm Add this shortcut to your desk top. It's not necessary to know the precise spelling of a word; just get in the ball park and you'll get several "sound alikes". there is also a thesaurus to tell what the word means. One of the problems with our society is that we are succumbing to mediocrity in many ways and the scary part is that many do not even care, as evidenced by some of the posts here. American industry has finally begun to wake up to this fact after being hit in the pocket book by foreign manufacturers. Now, if we could just get our public schools, and those who attend them, to do likewise.....

Posted by: minehunter

If I can't spell the word correctly or I don't know how to spell it, what good is a dictionary. If I can't spell it right I no not where to look.

Posted by: minehunter

Rubione, you missed the whole point of my post. If a person thinks that the word "accelerate" is spelled "excelerate" all the dictionaries in the world won't help him. The "principle" not the "principal" is to just know where to look.

Posted by: Darrin

I love a good argument. I would say more but I don't want to misspell anything. Wait a minute is that one s or two? R.K. my dream car is 71 roadrunner 440 airgrabber with a slapstik.

Posted by: retro

There is nothing that bothers me more than trying to read a post with a bunch of misspelled words, messed up grammar, and poor punctuation. Everybody makes a mistake typing once in a while but some people in here do it on every post. Plus, it makes you look dumb. Not that I'm a rocket scientist or anything.

Posted by: retro

aaaaaaaaaah, whatever. I might as well save my breath, I forgot most kids in here are too young to know how to spell, let alone ride a quad. I just think it is much easier to read something that makes sense.

Posted by: retro

Thanks fakie99. That gave me a good laugh! I really liked the sister-chasing idiot parts. There should be a separate forum called "too young to drive/know it all/sister-chasing idiot's" where all the ignorant youngsters can hang out. And I'm not making fun of ALL the youngsters!

Posted by: retro

I think these "sister chasers" are in the same group as the ones that have to ask how fast a blaster or 300EX is in MPH, or which is faster, a quadzilla or a trx90? Like as if they're going to buy a certain quad just because in stock form it is 1 MPH faster than the other. I guess it matters if you are riding it down the freeway or something.

Posted by: retro

Tree Farmer I was hoping you would put your 2 cents in. I notice you always have a readable post. Sometimes I get screwed up with those big words you use. ERIC

Posted by: retro

Yea, what does atrocious mean? Come on, you can do better than that. Kind of a hot topic hey? ERIC

Posted by: retro

Now that was pretty funny!!! Sorry to any mental midgets out there. ERIC

Posted by: retro

What do you mean by that?

Posted by: retro

Trust me, I am no "brain". I just think it is nice to be able to read something and when done, not say HUH?

Posted by: retro

Yea, that was some real useful information. We need more people like you to complain about something like a long list of things I own. Like I'm the only one who lists what is on my quad. This is the "ATV" connection, right? And Holyman, I'm sure everyone wants to be like you? A freak!

Posted by: dalegoldston

Are we just trying to stir something up? I dont think it worked. If its me being bothered by someones writing skills, I just would not read the post. The sister chasing line was funny though. ttfn

I also agree that there are alot of worthless posts in this form. I also make typos as I visit this form often at 3AM or so. Anyways, there is a roadless meeting in Gresham, Oregon and Vancouver, WA today. I will be headed there in a few hours, I also posted another link to a BLM land issue in the land, trail and enviro section. Hope people check it out:) Joe

Posted by: pdavis

I think you might be opening Pandora's box with your post. So some forum members don't or can't use proper grammar and/or punctuation. At least they own an atv and like to ride. My advice (that you didn't ask for) is don't sweat over grammatical details in a public forum because it will make you look like a bad guy.

Roostking... What color is it ? Or, is there a color yet ? Barracuda's are awesome, although, I equally like the looks of the Challenger.

Posted by: r34

Roostking... Are you going to put some stripes down the side, as the factory 'Cuda did, or have it a solid color? I'd love to see the pix.

Posted by: Lurch77

Andrew Thomas, I used to clean my filters in the tub too. But now the 727 tranny gets in the way. The same thing goes in the living room. Wife complains she can't clean the house right with an engine block sitting on the carpet. Retro, noticed you are from Abrams. My home town is Oconto. I am in Maine for a few years with the military though.

Posted by: Lurch77

Roost king, you are the right kind of man. Cudas are the best cars ever in my mind. My Mopar is on a lesser scale then yours. It is a 79 Power Wagon, 3/4 ton 4x4. Absolutly nothing fancy at all about it, big, ugly, and a major gas gussler. But it will go just about anywhere.

Posted by: Lurch77

I STILLDON'T NO WHAT YOUIS TALKING BOUT. I HAVE KNOW TROBLE REEDIN THEPOST THAT SUM PERSONS PUT ON THIS WEBSITE. I CAN REED WELL AN I CAN TIPE BETTOR. SI IFN YOU CANNOT REED WHAT I TYPE, THEN I GESS THAT IS YOU PROBLEMS. Just kidding guys. But for the sake of argument, the people that complain about the people that complain are just as bad. I agree both ways. I do not mind a FEW mispelled words, or a word in caps to emphasize it. But when someone does use all caps, and spells just about every word wrong, it does get annoying and hard to read. Those are the post I skip for the most part.

Posted by: Lurch77

Holy ****, what the hell is this. Have we got bored enough to actually point out that it is "really", and not "real". This is out of hand. How about we talk about ATVs now? P.S. I don't care what I spelled wrong, or worded wrong in this post. You all got the point and thats all I care about.

Posted by: EXtreme-

Now, Now...we done did gottoff the topic at hand! his sure is some easy readin'. How refreshing to relax with a topic like a peppermint patty..."makes a cool breeze blow through my hair!" Such nice spellin and all. ('71 Charger RT...440 six pack!)

Posted by: snowshark

I agree, also something that is annoying is some one who uses ALL CAPS. Just getting old I guess................

Posted by: fakie99

retro, don't bother. this has come up before and the same mis-spelling, sister-chasing idiots you are referring to are the ones who will come back and tell you it doesn't make them look bad. fact is, your grammar is how people judge you. ever wonder why no one takes the four-wheeling community seriously? go out to the dunes and ask 10 people what they think of the human genome being decoded. blank stare. maybe a sideways glance. now ask them about stock car fuel, and you got a discussion! case in point - feel free to do a search on RAPTOR and proofread the posts from these many prodigys who are praising a quad they have never seen or ridden. as you will see, all hope is lost. in fact, i would say our sport is in trouble, too. the sierra club, although they would like to see atvs banned forever, can at least manage to string a few words together in the right order. they don't speak english as a second language as most of our four-wheeling bretheren do. so fight the good fight, my man. but be prepared to pick up the slack....

Posted by: fakie99

...says it all. i love when people use that old crutch. what exactly DOES it say, my friend?

Posted by: fakie99

nope. it means i am too lazy to nail the shift key with my pinky. but thanks for playing. peace.

Posted by: fakie99

a few minor misspellings don't bother you, eh? until it snowballs anyway... i submit the following REAL post from the yamaha forum for your review: "I will take the new yamaha on with my dads qaudzilla I gaurantee the new yamy will get smoked as a matter of fact i will race him on my 250r and I will bet all the money in my pocket right now (hehe)seroisly I will race a new raptor with the zilla anyday any time anywhere. and don't say in tight woods because a good rider will make up for the zilla being wide." now if you can tell me what the HELL this means - misspellings notwithstanding - you are a better man than i. can we start asking a little bit more of ourselves as civilized humanoids?

Posted by: fakie99

rubione... all good points; i was actually responding to huntergreen's post. but you are correct -- help is as far away as a spell checker. i swear i think sometimes people just don't realize how bad incoherent discussion makes them look.

Posted by: fakie99

man, someone's having a pretty crappy day....

Posted by: MNT

"Pull my finger"......:) Haven't heard that in awhile, good one

Posted by: huntergreen

confabulating??????????????????????????????????? thats an awful big word for us common folk!!! I just love people who try to use big words to look smart, when it only makes them look like an idiot!!!! Everybody is getting a little to picky, as long as I can understand the meaning of the post, a few mispelled words do not bother me. 2000 kodiak hunter green

Posted by: huntergreen

I'm not here for an English lesson, I'm here to talk about atv's! If you do not use those big words that nobody can understand or wants to read, you will not have to use a dictionary!!!!!!! I think you have made a mistake and entered the wrong forum. I'm sure there is a forum for pompus bores somewhere. "Not seen my name in this forum"????? Where have you been???????????????????????????? 2000 kodiak hunter green

Posted by: huntergreen

I must be a better man than you, because i know exactly what he is trying to say: this rube thinks he can beat a raptor with his dad's Suzuki 500 or his 250r. Because the 500 is so wide, he knew people would rip his a$$ about riding in the woods, so he says a good rider can make up for that. Now I admit this guy is probably on crack, but I do understand what he is saying. I know you guys think you are talking to some hillbilly dumba$$, but i do have a college education and a techinical job. Can't spell worth a damn, but i can run any CNC machine made!!! 2000 kodiak hunter green

well said Holyman!!!! And Retro, please go to Wal-mart, or wherever you have to go, and purchase a life. 2000 kodiak hunter green

I wonder if these people have ever heard of proofreading what they have written. If I remember correctly there is a book called a dictionary which enables one to look up the proper spelling of any word in the English language. If you peruse the dictionary you will find the above statement to be true. ALSO, LET ME SAY THAT WHEN YOU USE ALL CAPITAL LETTERS ON THE INTERNET YOU ARE CONSIDERED TO BE SHOUTING. When people are confabulating with one another it is nice to have as many words spelled correctly as possible. Everyone makes mistakes, but not one after another. If you use the proper instructural materials that are at your disposal you may learn something. We as human beings have been given brains and the propensity to learn so that we may better ourselves.

Posted by: rubione

Huntergreen,it is obvious that you do not mind a few mispelled words and thats fine. However, if you can read and it is not to strenuous a task for you to look up words in the dictionary you will see that all the words I used in my response were used correctly. The message I was trying to convey is this. All you have to do if you do not know the proper spelling of a word no matter how small or large is to look it up in the dictionary. If you perform this very easy task you might learn something. It does not matter if you are as you say, common folk, you can still learn. No one in this world is any better than anyone else. However, that does not mean that one cannot improve upon himself or herself. Dictionary:a book of alphabetically listed words in a language, with definitions, etymologies, pronunciations, and other information. I wonder where that definition came from. Do you think it might have come from the dictionary? It does not take much to look up a word. Your statement referring to me as an idiot(name calling) shows lack of vocabulary on your part. Resorting to name calling really hurts. Oh, I'm so hurt. By the way, I don't remember seeing your name in this particular forum until you responded to my post. It really must have hit home.

Posted by: rubione

fakie99, I am not saying that the same thing does not happen on other forums. I was responding to the post on this forum. I am not a rocket scientist or a brain surgeon. I'm trying to prove a point. I have trouble with words sometimes so I will refer to the dictionary for the proper spelling and meaning of that particular word. I do this when I am on the computer and also at work. I didn't understand it either. Something about a yamy. Is that some kind of sweet potato?

Posted by: rubione

minehunter, I guess you better go back to the first grade and begin your education all over, because you missed something along the way. Mainly an education.

Posted by: rubione

minehunter, I misunderstood your post. I appologize.

Posted by: Holyman

It seems strange that a person that is going to comment on someones literacy, or lack thereof, has a laundry list of things he owns that are actually longer than the post. This is a plain indication of low self esteem. When someone enters an ATV forum and can only comment on someone elses inability to form complete sentences they are showing that they have no interest in ATV's but rather making themselves feel superior. If a person had interest in making this forum the most intelligent place to visit on the net then critisizing its participants is not the way to do it. If one is so intelligent, then why doesn't that one volunteer their greatness to tutor the ignoramus beneath him and educate him. Apparently that would be way too much to ask. Thank you for providing the opportunity for dissent among the ranks you wonderful, great, superior, and infinately literate person. I'm sure everyone wants to be like you now!

Posted by: Holyman

retro ... that would be "really useful information" not "real useful information". If you are going to get on the soap box at least be able to complete a sentence when you get there.
