I've been doing a lot of time in the emergency room and riding local rescue squads as part of the Paramedic class I'm in and let me tell ya, I will never smoke again. To see how miserable some of these older people are mainly because of their smoking habits is just sad. I guess you gotta die some how however, I don't want to die as miserably as these people are. It's sad.
Do yourself a favor and quit now.

I've never been a smoker and I dont slam the folks that do smoke, unless of course, they are 12-18 yr olds.---------WHY you may ask?????
With what we know TODAY about the risks involved with smoking, there is NO legitmate reason for ANY youth to START smoking except the little butt-heads want to THINK they are some sorta bad ass or something with cancer hanging out of their mouths.Thats it!
Its also one of my pet-peeves with an attractive chick. I dont care how FOXY a chick is,if she's got a CIG hanging from her lips----I wont take a second look at her.

Hondarulesinnc,
your a very smart young man. There is NOTHING COOL about overinduldging in toxins [booze] and most folks your age dont understand WHAT they are over intoxicating their bodies with now, will only get MUCH worse as the years goes on.
Its sad, because even ME, when I was young, use to party pretty hard, but we never had the EDUCATION advantage that you guys have now,it was also a socially acceptable thing to be all flopped up at a party.Today, there is much we know about the dangers of alcoholism and drug abuse.
Many years later, when I look at my buddies that I use to party with, many are washed up alcoholics with no direction.
Keep your head on straight, you'll live a much more productive life.

I quit for the 2nd time this past June. I smoked in High School until I was about 23 and quit........Then like an idiot, started started again when I was 31, and smoke for approx 2 years, and quit again. Before I quit this time, I slowed myself down to 5 ultra lights a day, then quit with the nicorette gum. About 5 peices of gum total and I had it kicked, ecept with the mental habit part. I was told that the nicotine addiction lasts 72 hours, then you are just dealing with the mental habit of thinking you need one because the body is used to reaching for one at certain times. Quit when you really WANT to, and vow to never touch one again. NEVER. One can put you right back on the wagon so to speak. You can do it if you want to.......I did twice.

As for the drinking it is still a big problem, at the basketball game the other Friday night all anyone of the kids were talking about was the big party that everyone was going to. I don't drink, I just can't see the pleasure in drinking poisoin to get a "buzz" then the next morning wake up in your own vomit. It might be better in moderation but when everyone is talking about shotgunning 13 in a row I don't think that is moderation.
I totally agree with you buddy. There are a lot of problems at my school. A lot of kids are tweaking, smoking weed, snorting cocaine, you name they've done it. I dont see why either. I am a freshman in highschool, and i dont drink. The big thing at our school is drinking. ALL of the kids who drink or smoke or do drugs all thing they are so tight, and i just look at them like they are idiots. Like they boast about taking 15 shots of Vodka or smoking 4 bowls, and i am like well i Guarantee you that i had a WAY better time tearing up the dunes on my quad. I find it so stupid to drink or do drugs, because it gets you ABSOLUTLEY no where. Its not fun, it doesnt taste good, it doesnt make you look cool, and most of all it messes up your brain, liver, and all sorts of stuff.
Good atitude! Alot of my youth was spent that way. I was out riding, or home working on my machine instead of being in the party scene. I don't ever feel that I missed out on anything but alot of touble. Stick with it, you won't regret it!

I quit smoking because I'm cheap. Add up the cost of smoking (however much you do) and see what you spend in a year. Of course, when I quit, they went from 99 cents to a dollar a pack. Quit right then. No regrets and back then, that added up to 365 dollars a year. Think of what you'd save with today's prices. Can buy extra mods or all kind of stuff.

That's probably a huge reason why I never have.

He got killed on a quad, sad part is it was on something stupid. He was just blazing down a power line and a little bump turned him into a tree. He was care flighted but there was nothing they could do to stop the internal bleeding. It has been the roughest thing I have ever been thru. Not to mention the holidays have been rough.

I agree because it smells up everything, my mom smokes and for the past year or so when I am in the car or something with her I just can't stand the smell.

just kind of a incentive to quit how about $4.oo/pack times 365 days a year , for a pack a day equals==$1460 bucks a year think of the goodies a person could buy . just my 2 cents .

at one time i used to smoke a pack of cigs a day and chew a half a can of chew a day. i am only 25 and i quit smoking when i got out of high school. and i will tell you doesn't matter how long you smoked when you are addicted you are addicted. i smoked for about 6 years and i quit chewing when i was 22. it was a will strength battle for me and it was something i was going to do and i knew i was going to do it and i worked at. i cut down for a while then i would say i am gonna have 3 pinches of chew each day for this week and i am gonna keep them in for this long. then i narrowed it down more and more then pretty soon i was able to throw the can away. and i am talking bout the chewing cause it was 10 times harder to quit that then smoking. been over 3 years since i quit chewing and i don't crave anything. the first 2 months are rough then it is clear sailing every now and then i get a craving when i been drinking with my buddies but i won't and sometimes i will have a cig like once every 6 months and i wake up wondering why did i do that now my mouth tastes like crap. if you go tthe will strength you can conquer anything and if you want you can PM me i can help ya if you are serious.

I quit smoking a few years ago pretty much cold turkey. Then one evening I was drunk and was offered a cig, so I smoked it. Since then I have smoked more often, but I have told myself that I'am not going to smoke another cig again and I plan to stick to it this time.

Thats the hardest part, just saying no. You have to actually want to quit something, to quit doing it.

I quit this past Feburary. It was hard, but it wasn't as hard as everyone acts like. I quit in the middle of a pack. At first I just wanted to see how long I could go, then after a couple of days, I thought "well I can't start again now".
Thing is, you'll get cravings and want to smoke real bad. But if you just don't, the craving goes away. Then after awhile, the cravings become less and less frequent.
Good luck.

Good luck buddy. The first week is the roughest. You might want to try some of those Commit lozenges. They taste like a$$, but they do help with the cravings.

I much rather be productive than do that stuff. I really dont like school, yet it WILL get me somewhere. Whether or not i like the teachers, homework, classwork, what ever, i am happy to learn. I much rather find something i like and be productive and have real fun than to sit around stoned or drunk. I love working and learning about motors, and i am taking a wood shop class, that i also really enjoy. I have this one kid in my class, who all he talks about is smoking weed. I think is a real moron. Then he tries to make it sound like it isnt bad because he "vaporises" it. yet he is 19 and still taking 6 period days as a senior. It sure sounds to me that he is being affected by smoking.

Oh, i have to admit. I have drank a few beers before, but to be 100% honest, i really didnt enjoy it. I have tasted whiskey before, and it almost made me puke. I actually prefer to drink soda than beer. I am not opposed to drinking in moderation, but to get smashed every weekend isnt right. Plus after seeing all the guys drunk and stuff, it doesnt look fun and they act like idiots. So i guess in a way i am scared straight.

Nope never touched them. The smell itself makes me sick in my stomach.

I gotta agree with RSeB. The first month is the worst but it gets easier as time goes on. My problem is I kick smoking for a few months and while I am having a beer with the boys or some how I want a cigarette and there is one available, I have it, Because I quit a couple of months ago and one is no big deal. The a few weeks later its no big deal again. Then afew days later.....It sneaks back up on me. I have quit like this about five times. I have been on the wagon again now since friday. So good luck quitting. And I tried the patch last time and it helped quite a bit. But start on the middle one because the beginning one is equal to two and a half packs....kinda rough.
