I think that's about average. I know I've heard of them going about $2500 around here. And I could have gotten one for $1500 from this guy who got it back after it was stolen. Two punks stole it, then were going down the road full blast at night and hit a tree. It only had like 20 hours on it. Needed a new frame, some front end parts, and front plastics but everything else was good.
Stay away from 03 & 04 if you can help it. In 05 they fixed the frame cracking problem, upgraded the suspension, bigger carb with throttle position sensor (To adjust ignition curve in relation to the throttle for better performance), different cams, and upgraded the clutch from 8 plate to 9. An 06 puts out 6.6 more horsepower stock. Might not seem like a whole lot, but when your dealing with 30 to begin with, that comes out to a 20% increase. The simple mods I've done to mine really opened it up.
You can still get an 06 for $4799 at troy city Only $1800 more for a brand new one!!!!!!!!!! They only have yellow lrft, and probably won't have those for much longer, then you'd have to order. Which may add $100 to the price.

Fred, check out my #10 pic. I love that grab bar, it comes out more than stock and it makes it easier to throw the quad around when needed. It even helps loading. I can load that quad onto my brother's f-250 harley edition pretty easily. If I didn't have that grab bar, it'd be pretty tuff though.

My next mod will be bars. But this mod will be because I need it. I bent them when I broke my wrist, then bent them back. Now my brother rolled it, and bent both sides. I won't try bending them back, because I think the knurls stripped because they rolled down as well as bending.

It was either ct or curtis sparks. But you should choose your pipe based on the type of riding you do. I looked at the dyno sheets for the shootout when I chose mine. I do a lot of trail riding, and no track riding. HMF adds a lot throughout, but the biggest increases are in the bottom and mid. It also had the smoothest looking powerband for the type of pipe I was looking for. With that and the big gun +1200 rpm cdi with advanced timing curve, it made a huge difference. When my cousin took off on his 69 harley powered chopper, he couldn't shake me.

yeah i've never looked into the Yoshi systems but whenever i see a pro on a z400 he's got a yoshi system..

Oh yeah fred, with HMF you can buy just the slip on at first then buy the head pipe later when you save up. I believe there's 1 other pipe you can do that with. The full systems are a larger diameter, but HMF made there's so you can cut off the neck that downsizes to stock, and then there head pipe slides right over it. You'd think they'd all do that, but HMF were the only ones smart enough.

The bars I'm getting do have a bar pad.
As far as Yoshi exhaust, they are very pricey. They did have the same type of powerband curve I was looking for, but the chart looked very choppy. The HMF one was very smooth. Of course the factory team is going to use them, they are the main partner and everything else thy do is great. Wouldn't want to lose them by using a different pipe.

I noticed that you've got the XCR's on the front though. You should have got the XCT's all the way around. They are like in the middle of the XCR's and the HD's. They've got the 6 ply sidewalls like the HD's, so you won't get a "snakebite" type hole on the trail and they are lighter like the XCR's, but not quite as light because the XCR's only have a 2 ply sidewall (Maybe 4, I'll check)

i just got rid of my XCT's, i had them all around...they held up nice but i was just ready for a change in my tread pattern, plus the HD's really work good in the trails
i have full HD's all around, not XCR's on the front

I don't know, he always finds awesome deals. I'd imagine partly because it was an 03, so you can't run a taller tracks or studs without damaging the heat exchangers and tunnel. But, if it's all pimped, I'd also guess they did the upgrades to allow them to.

This was my first year with the sled, and I'm hooked. It's a blast. It's probably more fun than wheeling actually, but I'd never give that up. I drive 3 hours and 15 minutes just to get to the snow. And the snow stunk this year.

I've never gone skiing. I have tied a waterski rope to a wheeler when I was a kid and ripped the black snow snowboard down the road though. LOL it was pretty fun, especially since the ford truck hoods that we pulled behind it turned the road into a very long half pipe.

Well the z is a blast. I'm thinking about giving mine to my wife and getting the LTR450. She hasn't ridden before, but she rode it around the other day and she loved it. I don't know though. I may put all the stock parts back on first. This thing lifts the front end up real easy. With me on it going down pavement, it acts like it wants to lift the front end with every gear change when I'm hammering it and banging through gears. She's barely over half my weight. I'm 6'1" and 230lbs, she's 5'8" and 120lbs so it may be too much quad for her.

i road one that was simply piped and jetted with a K&N and it wanted to lift ALOT 1 2 3 it would lift as soon as i hit the gassssss...

Yeah, that's pretty much what I got. But I also have the cdi with advanced timing, which gives you more power on the bottom.

Naaa, I'll probably pass my 400 to my daughter in another year or two. She'll be 10 tops when she gets it. She can handle it with some instruction and patience. Just give her wide open spaces to get used to it. Too good of a ride to give up.
I know my problem is I can downsize but it may actually end up COSTING me.

My daughter probably will have one by 10, but this is my wife I'm talking about. She didn't even want to drive the scooters in Bermuda or St. Marten. She's not real comfortable with these sort of things.

I was just using your sarcasm to emphasize how uncomfortable my wife is on machines. She has a 90 at her mom's. She probably will have a 250ex or a z250 by that time though. She's almost eight now. She loves riding her cousins 120xc polaris sled. He got it when he was 4. But my wife doesn't come from a redneck family, so she's not used to these things. Guess I should have put the wink at the end of that one.
