DOT sets standards for many different areas. I'm only familiar with DOT specs for trailers - lights and reflectors etc. I'd guess that they do the same for bumpers - regulating height or how strong it is. I'll also guess that if it is not DOT approved doesn't necessarly mean that it doesn't meet their standards - it could be that they just have not tested it.
A litre is just a little smaller than a quart. There are slightly over 4 litre's in a gallon.

i got a question for everyone out there. im looking at bumpers and roll pans for trucks (no truck specificly) and most of them say "not d.o.t approved" what the heck does that mean? i know what the department of transpertation is, but does not having something dot approved mean that it isnt insurable or something?
also, one last question. how many litre's are in a gallon?
