Well what the heck do you expect when you get the baby v8 that barely has more power than a v6? Try getting a real engine in the 1/2 ton and a towing package and you can move quite a bit of stuff. We had a 2000 GMC with the 4.8, we never made that mistake again.
We haul a 24' enclosed trailer with up to 6 atvs in it at 400-650lbs each with a 1/2 ton 5.3L, the towing package makes a significant difference as does the proper hitch setup. But thats even without a head and bars. I can even pull that trailer full with a 1994 C1500 w/ 305 and 31" tires that has 150K miles. If you equip your machine correctly and you tow realistically, ie: know the limits of your machine, you can tow the full manufacturer's GVWR.

The 6.0L is a gas hogging sob and the 8.1 barely has more power than the 6.0L, We've owned them both. The 5.3 isnt much in comparison, but its the biggest you can get in a 1/2 ton GM and the 4.8 performs well under it. Dont get me started on the Duramax, its anything but "durable to the max". Thats not to say Dodge and Ford havent had problems with thier new diesels too, just remember they are all very far from perfect.

Wish I had the money some of you guys do. I'll stick with my old '95 Ranger with its little 2.3 motor. After 170,000 miles, it still pulls the trailer with two of my quads on it. Got no payments to make on it, and maintenance is oil change, filters and tires.

I thought that commercial was pretty cool too - raises awareness anyways and looks like fun!

The truck has enough power to tow, the problem is the braking/suspension and the axles. I dont trust the brakes when towing, specially in Mexico when you hit a pot hole and the ABS kicks in, it feels like your not gonna stop in time. I know Im pushing the tow capacity on my truck, reg cab short beds arent ment for towing. The 4.8 only has like 15trq/hp less than the 5.3...so with my mods Im not that behind the BIG v8. I put an add-a-leaf and that helped a bit, but the springs are too soft, even with the tow package on my truck. Ive pulled heavy stuff with this truck...pulled a 3000# car carrier with a 1971 C10 on it, no problem except stopping, lots of tiles on the same trailer, dad's 88 gmc too. I think my problem is that I load 2 quads, all the gear in the bed of the truck, 4 heavy guys (200+) inside and just pull the trailer with one bike, most of the weight should be on the trailer. Im sure that if I got an extended cab, long bed I wouldnt have any problems. Im leaning towards the duramax because my dad can get fuel for free (sells semi-trucks to dealers nation wide), tuning capabilities are almost endless (Bullydog, duramazimizer, etc) and I can get a GOOD deal at my dealer. I dont want to seem like I dont know what Im doing, its just that Im pushing my little truck a bit too far, keep in mind its a 2WD too.

Though I bet nissan is probably a better truck, I will have to stay, stick with Mopar and buy Ram, lol.
Posted by: PolishCowboyPL
Ok first things is first, dodge trannys ya they aren't top of the line but they don't go out as often as people think. I got a 98' Ram 1500 81k miles still running strong. Its a true fact buts really stretched beyond proportion. Secondly, I agree half on what you say about the 360, it does blow, it gets no gas mileage, and it has little power to how much displacement it has, it could have had a lot more potential but $hit happens. But they are extremely reliable engines, don't go bad for a long time.
You guys talk about all that stuff with HEMI and so on, ya its not a "true" muscle car hemi, but its still. Besides the new Dodge Ram looks badass. I am sorry to offend anyone who ones a foreign truck, you guys got the preformance but I think those trucks are ugly compared to US companies.
I still think the dodge truck holds the best looking truck, even the previous body style it was most definately nicer looking then that old F150 which looked like crap, and it wasnt as plain as the chevy.
The one competitor for the best looking truck probably is the new Ford Super Duty because that truck looks sweet as all hell, or the Harley davidson addition F250 or 350(dont remember which one it is)
Thats my 2.
MIke.

What about the Ford Lightning i bet it'll whoop anyones little Nissan, or the Ram RT/10, people are fooled when they see Hemi, they think Power, well not really. that's not even a TRUE hemi, it just has the Hemi designed heads and junk on it, and it's a 5.7litre which is actually smaller than the 360, but the 360's are the worst engines Mopar ever built, PERIOD., the 426 HEMI is the real s***. i'd never buy a nissan neither, if i was buying a middle sized truck it would probably be the Dodge Dakota, 318's are better running engines than the 360's you find in most Rams, now if i were going to buy a full sized truck it would be either a Ford F250 Powerstroke Diesel or a Dodge Ram 2500 with the 24 Valve Cummins Turbo Diesel, which i'm looking at both right now and can't decide on which one, i'm leaning towards the Ram, these have 6 cylinder diesels which is what a majority of big trucks have in them today.
Oh yeah what about the Chevy Silverado SS, not the SSR, but the AWD SS.

man some of you guys are hard to convince, these new Dodges with the so called Hemis are b.s., it's not a REAL HEMI, that makes the Hemi name look bad, the 5.7litre hemi is a p.o.s., all it has are Hemi heads, if that. the 426 was the only true HEMI that Dodge made, it'll stop the living sh** out of any truck out there today, i'll put a damn garantee on that, the 440's were the only engines close to the 426's, but didn't have the HP that a 426 did, my dad is a Dodge freak, he knows every little bit about them, i'll take the engine out of my dad's 74 Dodge Dart and slap it in a truck, and line it up against any truck out there. Dodge is screwed up putting the Hemi name on a p.o.s. engine, and then most people are led to believe just because it says Hemi on it, that it's a fast truck.....nope don't believe s**t like that, the 318 in a Dodge Dakota will run with that 5.7 Hemi, and the 360's are just JUNK, they are slower than hell.

i think not. the SRT-10 has 500 hp and tq PLUS it can be had in a standard compared to the 300 some hp lightning automatic
well think what you want, the RT/10 Ram has the Viper engine in it, if you can get the tires to hook up instead of burning, the Nissan's would be toast, and the SVT Ford Lightning has the same engine as the Mustang Cobra R i'm positive of, it's something like a supercharged 5.4, and when you put something into a lightweight body, with about a 3.73 gear ratio, you are going to get a fast a$$ truck. i'm not too sure about the new Silverado SS, but back around 1990 there was the Chevy SS that had a 454 that came stock in the truck.

I am not a big Nissan fan, but I do own a 94 king cab se with 215,000 miles on original engine and only repair was for a new exhaust and timing belt
it pulls my bass boat just fine, and I have seen many horror stories from the big 3

you can go on and on about how much horsepower a truck has, and i love people who buy hemi's just because it has a hemi...its hilarious it has no advantage over anything else...except HEMI HEADS WOO YEA HEMIIIII! but hey whatever dodge is selling....and if u wanted a fast truck do a little research on the gmc cyclone / typhoon

Cool commercial, and speaking of Nissan I'll probably be picking up a new Titan or Armada as they are the best priced truck for the money.
Posted by: LivinInVegas
Why it's built here by Americans and has a great reputation and a lot of value for the dollar?
Posted by: LivinInVegas
Most people think a foriegn owned company is a bad thing but you have to see were the majority of the labor force is employed. For example nissan builds a lot of cars and trucks right in our back yard employing Americans. Chevy builds a ton of cars and trucks in Canada. Did you ever call for technical support (located in India) on you American company Dell or Compaq that was made in Japan or China. It's people who are closed minded and uninformed that make decisions against buying a foriegn product, just because it's a foriegn owned company. But the reality is they employ a lot of people around the country.

I'm surprised your'e not riding a Cannondale/ATK since it was made here.

well in the NOVEMBER 2004 issue of ATV SPORT they tested teh Nissan Titan 4X4 SE and heres what they said:
"youve prolly seen all the nissan commercials that brag about the half ton titan and its 9,500 pound towing capacity. I wanted to put these claims to the test. Nissan loaned ATV sport the 4X4 SE model, which comes with the standard 5.6 liter V8 with 305HP and 379lb. ft. torque. It also came with nissans "popular package" which included an eight way power ajustable seat, six-disc CD changer, and a few other gadgets. This test truck also had the off road package which included 17 inch alloy wheels with P285/70R17 tires, rancho shocks , tow hooks, and skid plates.
Nissan set this truck up with all needed extras for this test: A 10,000 pound hitch with additional brake and light wiring. A stabilizer hitch managed the tongue weight of the trailer and the titans towing control. National RV provided a 24 foot toy hauler that weighed 6,000 pounds empty. I loaded another 1,700 pounds including two ATVS and supplies, and took a 12 day road test. (ill finish it soon i have to go do something lol)

personally, i like the looks of the new titan. and its nice to see em includin the OHV's.
but honestly, a f-150 or any other truck in that class just doesnt cut it for our farm. i cant imagine a titan pulling the loads we do. my dads f-250 powerstroke does a good job, but sensors go left and right in that thing. kinda a pain in the a$$. but he gets his 14mpg towing a 24ft cattle trailer with 8-9 full size beef animals. it pulls it good (he has the exhaust, intake, and chip)
me, i get a whoppin 8-11mpg... gotta love the old 460 in my f-350. its a beast if u can afford it. POSI rear, that thing is quick. just goes through universal joints all the time.

Okay fella's here goes nothing, being the only Nissan Titan owner from what I can see. Let me tell you something this Titan screams on the road. I was on the highway and smoked a hemi.........Titan====HEMIEATER The HEMI has more Horsepower than the titan but the TITAN has more Torque, which in turn will give you a quicker truck. I rented a 2004 Ford F-150 with the 5.4 liter Triton and it was just to slow. The ford has a great interior though. I did this because at first I wanted to buy the F-150 because i loved the new body style but dam ford put some more juice in your F-150's ....The dodge was just cheaply made and plus I wanted my Transmission to last more than 80,000 miles....Chevy silverado is a great ride ( Comfortable ) my buddy has one , but still lacks in power. The toyota's still have not got it right and I think they never will. BY THE WAY WHOEVER SAW THE COMERCIAL WITH THE RAPTOR PERFORMING A BURNOUT ON THE BACK OF A TRUCK IT WAS A TOYOTA TRUCK. Anyways I love my 2004 Nissan Titan Crew Cab and my 2001 Raptor 660R fits perfectly in the back. All I do is lay my ramps down and drive right up.. Also when driving into many trails, my Titan has the Off Road package which includes Rancho Shocks, SKid Plates and a Higher Ground Clearance and makes very easy work in even the tuffest trails...
JUST MY 2 CENTS

The commercial is kind of cool in it's own way, I always like seeing atvs on tv. I will stick with my Ford F-250 SD. It is made in Kentucky, has 310hp and 425 lb. ft of torque, can tow over 12000 pounds, and gets 15 mpg on the highway (12 if I am towing one of my Buicks). It has the 6.8 liter V10 with a 5 speed manual trans.
Posted by: Buford77
As far as having the most power in its class. Usually they use a disclaimer as rating of standard power. So the base engine in the Nissan may have more power than the others offer as a base, but it by all means does not mean it has the most hp available.
Posted by: hondariderAR
i thought that was pretty cool, i think it was a nissan commercial where they had the help save a bed or something about their new liners.
that'd be cool to peel out on a raptor..in the back of your truck.
Posted by: Rockinfigs
sorry but i would never buy a nissan truck..but thats just me
Posted by: Rockinfigs
well im a ford guy..drive a f350. used to own a chevy and love both companies. yeah it might be built here but i still wouldnt buy one..if i had to buy a japanese truck i would buy a toyota.
Posted by: Rockinfigs
i know cars/trucks are built in different places etc...not against japanese trucks.. i like toyota trucks. i just hate the way nissan looks and all the stuff about it. has nothing to do with buying a foreign truck. i bought a ford and owned a chevy because of the towing capacity, looks and many other things. BR>
i think toyota is suppose to come out with a diesel truck..that might be cool.
Posted by: Rockinfigs
i like the power output of a HEMI but i would never buy a dodge
Posted by: RiverzEnd
I have an 03 F-150 Supercrew 5.4L. It's being fixed and my rental is an 05 Silverado LS. Nice truck. I've driven the titan, it's also a nice ride. It's interior is quite unique, perhaps a little on the "car like" side. Hypathetically, if chev, ford and dodge all made total lemons for five years straight, would you still not consider a "foreign" vehicle?
I think the lightning and SRT compare a little closer than you think. Getting all that HP and torque to the rear tires of the SRT is next to impossible without taking out half an inch of tread. If you're not gonna lug your machine around in 2nd gear, then what's the use of a standard vs. auto tranny? Like maddog said, your set up is what counts. My 1/2 ton with the Fx4 and tailer packages tows my 24 footer and quad just fine. Sure the diesel would be better suited.
Back to the topic at hand, those nissan commercials are wicked. Total eye candy. Since we're talking about them, i'd say they're pretty successful ads.
Posted by: 1herm4matrix
I have a Nissan Armada eventhough its not a truck it shares the same power plant as the Titan. I love it. I compared other SUV's in its class and it simply out performs any other SUV in its class. I also have the off-road package with a 9100 lbs towing capacity, auto rear leveling systems, racho suspension and skip plates. Show me a domestic that can compare for the same price range.
I have also seen videos on the web Titan vs. Hemi.....sorry but the Titan kills the Hemi. It does not matter what the manufactor says it CAN do, what matters is what it DOES do in the real world. Hemis are over rated.....Hemi's can't "rumble" THESE....
