My uncle just lost his dog last weekend, it got out of the back yard and got hit by a car on a high traffic road.
I've had them run away, I've had a horse kick one, I've had them up and die for no reason, and I've had to shoot sick ones. We have had close to a dozen different breeds, with many of each type and still seem to have problems. Its just a fact of life that they dont always grow old, sometimes they check out early just like humans.
Sorry to hear of your loss, I know how important an animal can become to a family, especially children.

about 2 years ago we lost one of our dogs, it was actually the son of my dog....one of the dumbest dogs you have ever seen, but very loveable....the thing that pissed me off is because he died of a gun shot wound...we never found out who shot him

Had a Doberman Lab mix for 15 years. Extremely intelligent dog, real part of the family. When she was shutting form age down we took her to the vet and I held her in my arms while the shot took effect. God that was tough. That was 3 years ago and I still get misty eyed thinking about it.
Dogs are great friends, but we outlive them and gotta go through it.

I had this silly little Pug named Choo-Choo......for about 14 years.....had her while I was growing up - silly snuffly dog......she finally died of kidney failure (old age pretty much) and we took her to to vet and he put her to rest......I cried for about a week.......
I've had dogs come and go since then........some were good dogs......some weren't.......but I've never been so in love with a dog like I am my Toomey dog that I have now. He's almost a year old, and he is the coolest dog I've ever had in my life. He's a person, basically.......at least he thinks so - and we pretty much treat him like one. If you don't have alot of luck with Rottie's, try an American Staffordshire Terrier.........AMAZING dogs.......the best people dog you can buy. I spent money and went for a purebred, but the breeder I bought him from researches bloodlines for years before selecting the parent dogs. Inbreeding CAN be a big problem with purebreds, but there are good, reputable breeders who have a passion for generating excellent animals......I would HIGHLY suggest an Amstaff!!!
Here's a pic of my boy!!!
Toomey
Sorry about your loss.......the sad thing about losing such a GOOD dog is we miss them so much when they are gone........

GirlyGirl we lost one of our dashounds two years ago because of the same thing. I was very against getting a dog but my daughter bugged me till I gave in ( about ten minutes, all she had to do was pout) I came home two days after the the dog had been fixed and she just didn't have any energy. That evening when I got back home it was raining and my daughter came and told me prissy was just setting in the front yard in the rain. By the time I got to her she had laid down and could barely pick her head up. I took her to the vet but by the time I got there ahe had stopped breathing. The vet said it was a blood clot. I had become attached to the dog and what really made it bad was on the way to the vet she tried to crawl over to me in the truck. We eventually got another dashound that I was determined not to get attached to but it happened anyway. His name was rocky and everyday he would meet me at the driveway so he could ride in my truck, he loved to go riding. I have some back problems and it seemed like he knew when I was really hurting and he would get in my lap and just lay there like he was sad. About two years ago my wife came home and when she was pulling in the garage rocky ran in front of her car to get his chew toy and got ran over. We have since got both of my kids dogs but I just can't bring myself to egt close to them. It's funny how you can become more attached to a dog than any other animal. I'm sorry for everyones lose and believe me I know how hard it is.

So sorry to hear about your dog.:BR>
About a year ago I had to put down our Doberman of 10 years. He was dying of cancer and was having a hard time with life. That was probably the toughest thing I every had to do. I feel for you bro...........

It sucks to lose a dog !! I had a black lab for twelve years and if I layed on the floor he would come and cuddle up to me with his head on my arm. He would stay by me as long as I stayed there. He also new when I was feeling down and he would come up to me and just put is head in my lap or on my shoulder if I was sitting on the floor. He got sick and I had to put him to sleep. I was 27 years old at the time and I cried like a baby when I carried him out of the vet in a bag so I could bury him at home. I said I would not get another dog, But that didn't last long !!

last year, i had a rottie, she was a year old her name was vielle and she was the most beautiful dog ever. she died after she got fixed poor girl just collasped and died on the way to the hospital. its sad but pure breeds are often inbred and that causes weak imune systems and other problems. Two weeks ago i lost my cat. he was mine and my bf's baby. i loved that cat more than i ever thought i could love a pet. Sorry about your dog.

im sry for your loss bigballer...
we generally only get mutts, as they tend to live longer. our last 2 both lived over 18yrs old, one probaly being over 20... we still have 3 dogs, one being purebred, and hes also the dumbest and fattest out of the bunch, hes an aussie. the others are a lab/terrier, and a belgium sheperd mix...

About a year ago, some one came up to my father with a little rottweiler baby dog. My dad didnt want the dog but the guy said, "One day this dog will save your life" so right there and then he knew he had to get the dog. After a week with the dog, He just was not him self. He ended up dying in the doggy hospital. After that my whole family had felt really bad, so we went online and got the best breeder for rotties. We found one not to far from our house. When we look on the website these dogs are all show dogs, and good bread dogs. We then buy a puppy from them and when we take it home, he was my life, i loved the dog. Just the other day about 5 days ago, the dog ( Diesel, YEH HE WAS RIPPED!) wasnt feeling him self and wouldnt move for long periods of time. W then take him to the vet, and he was fine, he came back yesterday night, and today, this morning, my poor little rottie died. Every 1 in my family is feeling upset. We are thinking of getting a third rottweilder but we dont have good luck with rotties. Well has any one witnesed a dog loss?

I have 2 siberian huskys (besides my rottie that died) and today I took one of them out for a long walk, to think about what has happend to my rottie, while we were walking, I started running with the dog and he slipped his collor and he ran for a main street, I chased him for about 200 feet and i thought to my self, I AM NOT LOOSING 2 DOGS In 1 DAY TODAY. So i sprint and i had to basicaly tackle him to get him under controll.

Well, they did an ortopsie on my rottie who had just died and they found some exces liquid next to his heart that made it stop. Im very suprised because usaly that is nothing big.

I rescued 1 of my huskys and the rottie that just died, they gave him an ortopsye. the results of it were that the dog had to much exces fluids next to his heart, which made it stop.
