Well i believe the synthetic stocks are easier to manufacture, so they will be more abundant. But the good companies should always have the nice wood stocks available. Either that or they might all be synthetic with an option of real wood. nothing beats a good old wood stock.

The wood stocks in high humidity areas they say may change your zero as the wood accepts moisture and temperature changes. Never bothered me though, my rifles have wood.

Can't imagine what my AR would look like with a wooden stock. They'll always be wood stocks (not to be confused with Woodstock), if for no other reason than limited edition. Still, some rifles just wouldn't look right if they didn't have the wood.

i'm just curious and a little concerned about what will come in the future, i mean like, not who will take the guns away but the techknowledgy of guns will make it no fun, but one question is, do you think that synthetic stocks will take over hard maple or other wood stocks, i like the wood, not sythentic, what do you all think?

i think that synthetic stocks look cheap.
their only selling point is that they are impervious to weather.
that translates to "ok you lazy b@stards .. here's one you dont have to clean so often".
i'll never own a rifle with a synthetic stock, if i have to carve a wooden one myself.

I personally like synthetic stock for the rifle that goes out in the field with me. It's tougher, impervious to weather, and lighter.
I have a nice Finnbear to show off if I need to impress someone with a pretty rifle. But the rough and tumble one is synthetic.

The synthetic is better for durability, temp/humidity stability etc....... But there will always be people who value beautiful wood grain hardwood stocks and astetic appeal it gives to the firearm. Because of this the beautiful wood stocks will always be readily availible.
As far as technology taking the fun out of the shooting sports........I'm not too concerned. Technology will develope but that doesn't mean that various other and traditional aspects such as black powder shooting, varminting, trap shooting, traditional hunting etc...........will disappear with the advent of new technology. Look no further than how black powder shooting is alive and well. I think there will always room for the traditional/nostalgic/historical aspects within the shooting sports.........too many people hold those very aspects dear to the heart for them to be dropped simply because of a new technology. Technology will be advanced all of the time........it's called progress. But cultural traditions endure and I think there is a whole lot of cultural tradition within the shooting sports.

I personnally have a preferecne to a wood stock. I am young but have been hunting long enough to appreciate the asthetic value. My dad has one synthetic stock and the rest are wood, I think most of the younger generation hunts with family and I think the older members of the hunting parties will have more influence the choices than the technology itself.
