Here in southern Oklahoma we get a stick of dynamite and blow the whole dam apart. Really neat when beavers go flying through the air. We always have a small arsenal waiting on them, just in case the dynamite doesn't get them. If you weren't so far away we would come help you have some fun.
After you shot and skin them. Use the carcasses for baiting in coyotes. Coyotes love them. We have a guy here take hunts coyotes competitively. He keeps 10-15 in the "Pen" (280 acres with a 10 ft fence all the way around to keep the raccons and coyotes in). Beavers make coyotes fat. We have a source to get rid of the carcasses.
Good luck and have fun getting rid of them.

on a more serious note, my uncle has troubles with the varmints in the drainage ditches on his farm. We have gotten permission in the past to eradicate the beavers by whatever means necessary, including dynamite. The funnest part was watching down the ditch, facing west, on a night with a full moon. You could see them coming from a couple hundred yards away, line up the sites on the .300 Savage, and boom. OOOOPS!!!! That was a muskrat We did get our share using the rifles.

If you can eat a snapper, you can eat a beaver. Some beavers are pretty tender and juicy.

It's the other pink meat.

Seriously, check your game laws. There is a season for beaver and it's trapping only. If Minnesota is like N. Dakota, you can't shoot them. If they're causing problems, call the DNR and they can take care of them. Usually they get someone that is a trapper and have them come out and trap them.
That's the right thing to tell you. What I do is tear down a small part of their dam and wait with the .223 for them to come fix it.

And yes, you can eat beaver. I mean the furry kind. I mean the ones with four legs.

Oh...I was thinking something else when I saw the title, never mind.

Ok, Ok. Well I'm no hunter, but I've heard and seen what too many beavers can do to a tree population. It was almost like a logging company came in and wiped out acres of trees. I'd say check your local laws then start sprayin beavers (I hear they make nice coats too)

What is everyone's opinion on shooting beavers?
Out at my hunting shack there are waaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyy to many beavers and they are making a big mess out of the river going through our land and all the trees around the river. I think this spring I am gonna get a crew of people to tear there dams apart one night and sit quietly in the morning waiting for them to come out and fix it. Then there is gonna be a mass slaughtering.
I am not always about killing just to kill, but they need to go.

lol, I knew that was coming, but this is a legitamate question.

I doubt you are serious about them being tasty, but I wasn't planning on eating them. Actually thrasher I will put some on ice and send them to you. You can try and tell me if they are good. I may either sell the pelts or give them to a buddy of mine who traps. The reason I don't trap them is that I am afraid of my dogs getting into a trap. I am gonna look up the rules and then hopefully blast some beavers.img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif" border="0">

That is my plan, except we are gonna have an arsenal. .223, 22 mag, 12 gauge, ruger 10-22, and I may even take out the .280.

Ronnie,
I just need to get my hands on some of this dynamite. Coyotes too, this is starting to sound like more and more fun.
