I run 4-4.5 lbs in my 26 in 589's ..If I ever adjust the pressure its only by a half pound or so..

On the Ranchers, I find that if I run my Holeshot ATR's to low (~3.5 lbs.), it really effects the steering (there is a lot of bump steer). I use to run 4 lbs., but I am thinking 5 lbs. is even better.
On the sport bikes, I run Holeshot XC's on everything. 4.5 lbs. front/4.0 lbs. rear, has worked well for me.

Remember your jeep and other 4x4's are also a lot heavier that ATV's.
For the most part, lowering tire pressure is to allow the tire to roll over obstacles. This allows more tire surface on objects, helps the tire to mold around objects (tree roots, rocks, etc), and helps prevent sticks and such from puncturing your tires. It also allows for a much better ride, lower air pressure give the tires some give when hitting objects. Thus not bouncing off of stuff and jarring you as much. This is the short version.
When I use to jeep, I would drop my tire pressure down to around 15 psi sometimes, depending on what we were doing.
On my quads, I run anywhere from 3.5 to 4.5 psi. Usually somewhere in the middle. I've never had a problem popping the bead or anything, even though they have taken some pretty hard hits.

I bought a sweet chrome stick-type low pressure gauge at WalMart. It's graduated in 1/2psi increments and goes down to 1psi.
It was something like $4.
I think there are nice digital low pressure gauges as well

I know what the tire says, but i would like to know what tire pressure y'all run on your aftermarket tires for the 4x4 atvs for all the different situation?

the reason i ask is becuase on my jeep rides i have seen people drop their pressure too low and break beads without doing too much jarring of the tires. I just wanted the best all around pressure without that risk. I have 27" super swampers and i have them right now at about 7 psi.
