That dog sounds like he is the moderator of that mountain.

I sure hope you don't shun, befriend riding partner.

Around here, we don't get snow down in the valleys, but we do get a fair amount in the local mountains (which go up to around 12,000'). Well, we had a big storm this week, and it is snowing up there this morining. So, I invited a bunch of people on a snow ride tomorrow. Well, everybody has flaked. What a bunch of sissies! They are all worried about it being to wet or cold or whatever. Guess it will just be me and the kids out there having fun!

We start down at Miller Canyon (Silverwood Lake), which doesn't get much snow (so the roads are clear), then we ride up to behind Arrowhead. The canyon faces north, and keeps its snow very well, even after everything else has melted.

The Pinnacles trails are still closed. The Miller Canyon ride is just a nice ride for the kids right now, until they open the Pinnacles trails again.

I have a friend who likes to ride the snowmobile trails once the sled traffic has packed the snow out. But, I noticed "no wheeled vehicle" signs up in Mammoth at a lot of the popular trailheads!

I been out riding for about an hour in this fresh snow. It aint that cold, normally I end up looking like the Marshmellow man with all the clothes I have on. But I just threw on some long john pants and shirt, my riding pants(severely patched up cargo khakis), a tshirt, a thick coat, my fox beanie and I didnt even put on my helmet, I put on my paintball mask and a bandana around my neck. My mask covers my whole face alot better, my nose and mouth arent left open.
I dont know what it is, but just riding around the trails and tracks in just 2nd gear is fun in the snow. At one point I finally got stuck and I got behind to push and work the throttle and it took off with me still on it. Hahaha, I was draggin my feet in the snow just laughing. I had my MX boots on so my feet were toasty even in the snow. Going through snowmen in mid 2nd gear is fun too. Especially when you take down about 2 or 3 in a row.
I dont know what it is, but snow is just wicked to ride in. But Im glad I dont have it around all the time.

I went for about 10 miles in the snow yesterday. There were a lot of coyote tracks up on top of the mountain. My new riding partner met me at the bottom of the mountain and went the whole 10 miles with me.

He's a dog that just showed up behind me one day and chased me off the mountain. (I thought he was chasing me.) Now 2 times out of 3 he meets me at the bottom and stays with me where ever I go. Then when we reach the bottom we go our separate ways. He lives at a near by farm. I always picture him scratching at the door as I start up the mountain. The farm is about another mile up the road from where I start up the mountain. He always seems to figure out that I'm on my way. Darn good riding partner and I don't even have to feed him.

How could you shun something with a face like that? (refer to author icon)

I go out and ride througought the entire winter....if the snow is too deep for the trailblazer to go through...magnum to the rescue! lol...I have cimbed a snow pile that has accumlated through out the winter from plowing and it takes a couple of goes hitting it ohh say 25 to get it to go over completly...the bank is like a 80* angle but isnt very high at all. I have also tried to break through some snow drifts...warning you right now DONT DO IT...well with speed ne ways because there is a SUDDEN stop that comes along with it...I almost went over the bars!

But normally when I go out (say 15+ degrees F) I normally ride in my hooded sweatshirt a pair of jeans and a pair of lighter gloves and my helmet of course...when it gets below that... I through on a jacket...us minnesotans are tough ehh? lol

SNOW RULES!!! thats my favorite time to ride. last month at one point we had about....id say 24+ inches of the good packing stuff. lol i got my uncles zuki lt-250 utility stuck in some deeeep stuff! i had to pull it out with the sportsmen lol. my blaster got through pretty well in about 10 or less inches, any more and it kinda wanted to just Spin!! heh. snow is so much fun. sadly though i think the snow season is over for us in MD . but it melted and turned everything into MUD!!! yay that is almost just as fun as snow. one day i want to move somewhere that snows more than just 3 months of the year. i wish it would snow here all year, thats how much i lke it!

I've been riding around it in too...well what's left. All the fresh powdery snow is pretty much slush now Can't say Ive been plowing through any snowmen lately, but lol sounds pretty fun I'll have to try it someday. I think climbing steep snwo covered hills is pretty fun too though. And like you, I'm glad to have it, and also glad it's not like the people up north who get feet of it..

Went for a 20 mile ride on Sunday, what a blast. Me and my buddy (has a V) ran into the cops while unloading. I was thinking "Oh Sh**!". He just told us to have fun. Not what I expected!

I just came in from riding in the Southen California snow! (sounds funny). I'm still kicking it off my boots. We got 2 feet a few days ago and it is snowing now 3" or 4". I did a few pavement hillclimbs (but don't see the pavement). The stock V tires don't do that great in the snow. Recon where do you go snow riding up here? I won't get my trailer out for quite awhile.

Have they opened up the trails around the pinnacles? I haven't heard anything new. We had a small storm roll through about noon and it was snowing at 3000' elev. This is gone by now. Snow is sticking at about 5000'. Have fun!

Hey Recon, How was the ride? Did you still go and did you find the snow?
