I've got a cheap allternitive I use a computer camera by COREL cost me about $20 CAN, I mount it on my front rack with some large ties it runs on 7 to 14 volts DC so i plug the camera into my accessorie port then i have an audio video wire that goes into my nap sack with my video camera in there ( you need inputs on your camera for this to work) press record and off we go works great I thought there would be a shakey picture but it was excelent for a home made peice also if you get a stone that hit's it just get another one for $20 CAN its pretty dam cheap. I forgot to mention it's all in color baby!!! If you can find this cam it's called "COREL CAM". P.S. it's so light weight you could probably duct tape it to you helmet but you might get a giggle or two from the chicks on the trails LOL!!!!

One more thing it does have a mic built in but it pics up alot of wind noize when your going fast, at normal speeds it works just fine!

There are a whole bunch of helmet cam sites. Here are some of the ones I looked at:

They all basically use the same camera, and it is pretty rugged. The question is how do you protect your camcorder? I'm just waiting for my tax return to come in before I get mine!

That system looks nice, but it is a little steep. You can get one of the systems I listed for between $390 - $410 with all of the options that the actionsportscams has. Their system would be over $600. (Based on base system, mount, rechargeable battery/charger, and LANC switch.)
As far as resolution goes, that one has 380 lines of resolution and the others have options for 480. Most of the videos you see on the net have their resolution backed down in order to make them smaller in size. The ones I have on my PC are just like watching a DVD, but they are huge!
I must say though, I like the size of that camera, small compared to the others.

Yeah, the cam and the mic come back to a single connector which plugs into your camcorder. In order to use a helmet cam, your camcorder needs to be able to record off of A/V inputs. Thats pretty much the only catch (A/V thing, not DV).

Man,,If only me and my buddies had a helmet cam when we go riding....We have seen some crazy stuff and we have had some great stories to come home with to the families but it would be much nicer to have a video!!! If only I could afford one..but knowing my luck..and the riding I do..it wouldn't last long

Hey guys, need yer help on something, was thinking about buying a helmet cam but really i have no idea how, or who makes and sells them so if you guys know of any dealers or websites i can look up that'd i could buy one from or if you know anything about them like which will give the best quality of picture and is durable and won't break or not. Just give a reply....
