Here's a story that made the front page of the local newspaper. It's about a 16 year old boy who wrecked when a 4 point buck jumped out in front of him. Luckily he was wearing a helmet. For those who are interested I've attached a link to the story. I thought it was a good story and the paper didn't take any cheap shots on ATVer's....one of the few times they don't.

The article doesn't say.....I can only say that I know first hand the dirt road he was on and being in a residential area I suspect he was doing about 25mph. However, I imagine that even if he was sitting still it would suck having 150 lbs of live animal hit you square in the chest. Again, I was glad to see the paper didn't take any cheap shots at him and slam the ATVer's.

It's very distracting and hard too read...most members asume you are some kid with no revelant info if your caps lock is on.
On the subject, the boy was very lucky.....can someone please explain too me why wearing a helmet is not a good thing? On the second occurance, thats a shame and most most important person in her kids lives is gone. ATV's are not toys and should be treated with respect.

Most of the forum members and the moderators as well. I believe its listed in the rules section for the forums. Its easy to avoid, doesnt make a difference when they are off, and it is one of the few rules we have. Not to mention that it is annoyingly distracting and harder to read. Especially when the grammar and spelling are bad.

My buddie hit a deer with his 400EX going wide open. Did $1000 worth of damage and needed a new pair or shorts.... I tapped the back leg of a deer with my DS650's front tire going about 80.... I loaded my shorts hardcore also.....

That was an interesting and well prepared story on the deer accident. The only time they get that much into anything ATV related around here is when they interview all the anti atv people from the state and tree hugger groups.
Good to hear he is doing better as well.

I've had a few close calls with deer. I wonder what is chasing them to make them run out in front of an atv? The last one was running full speed and skidded into a turn and went another direction. It was like something you'd see in a cartoon. I was glad it was so agile. If it wasn't then we would have collided.
Don't chase the deer. A wild animal has to conserve it's energy between meals. It can't go to the fridge like a human. When chased a deer or any wild animal is using up valuable energy needed to survive in the wild. If you want to chase something then find a tree hugger.

Helmets are definately a good thing. I've lost track of how many times they have protected my head or a friends head from injury. This weekend my girlfriend came over to go riding, and I found out that she doesn't wear a helmet much when she goes riding at her house, and I let her know what I thought of that. I think she got my point I know she will wear a helmet at least when I'm around.
Helmets save lifes, simple as that

Out here in Washington and Idaho, we shoot dogs that chase deer. I guess you must be starved for excitement.

I don't know where I'd be without a helmet, already broke an arm and wrist from rolling a 3 wheeler, bruised ribs two years ago from rolling snow mobile. Gonna baby this new quad.
