snowbuster, there is nothing wrong with your wheeler. Power is given to the wheel with the least resistance. Unless you add a locker which some of the new atvs have.

we finally got our first snow of the year here in western KY. i'd say we got about 2 inches, but its still snowing out there. i got up to go to school, but they cancelled it, so i got out my 250 fourtrax. i just rode around doing donuts in the roads around my neighborhood then the salt trucks came by.....it was fun while it lasted.
we don't get much snow here, so i'm a little excited. later!

we ended up with about 5 or 6 inches of snow all together. but it started out as rain and iced up the roads, thats why we got out of school. (actually we got out 3 days )
it started as rain (created a layer of ice), changed to snow (2+ inches), then it rained on top of that (and created another layer of ice), then it snowed 2+ more inches.

i dont know if your Rancher is like this or not, but... when our Big Bear is in four-wheel drive,i think that only one of the front tires pull instead of both. hope this helps.

They cancelled school for 2 inches of snow?!?! We just got 12 inches that started Friday mid morning and ended late that night and everything stayed open!! Made for a great day Saturday though. Plowing the driveway, then off for a great run on the trails.

Translated from Newfanize:
Go newfoundland!! I am from Carboneer, Newfoundland where we received 18" of snow, but they never cancelled school, so I went on the Kodiak. I had to do some doughnuts to show off for the boys though.
Please learn how to spell adn type!!!

I don't think there's anything wrong with your quad... that's just the way most 4WD systems work on ATV's. When one of the front tires slips, the other one stops spinning. Polaris is the only manufacturer that claims to have true 4 wheel drive. This picture doesn't say too much, but it does confirm what I am talking about.

I can't say for sure (I'm no expert), but my guess is that there was still enough resistance in the mud to keep both tires spinning. Once you spin in snow, the snow beneath your tire pretty much becomes ice and is much slicker than mud. Just a guess, though.

I was riding in the snow the other day and next thing i know i was stuck in about 8 inches of it with 4 wheel drive. so i looked at the tires to see why i was stuck in so little, and i found out it only had 3 wheel drive. The front right tire wasnt spinning like all the others. It seems to me that something either got stripped, loosened, or broke in the front differential. I was just wondering if any of you 4x4ers have ever have had this happen to you or any body you know.

i have a honda rancher ES 4x4. i cant belive this happend to a honda.

i know what you people are talking about. that would be unlooked differentials. mine are locked. besides if that were the case only ONE wheel WOULD spin. istead only ONE wheel WONT spin. thanks a lot anyways. maybye i should have made that more clear. thanks again.

i have got a question for you. if this is so. how come i never noticed it in the mud. just wondering.

sounds like a good theory you got there. thanks! now i feel a lot better.
