<< he can easily beat a 400ex on his banshee- but he has yet to beat me on the Z >>

The only way that is gonna realistically happen is with low traction and a short drag.......assuming you guys are around the same weight and skill level.

These were bone stock machines:
400EX-25.98
Z400-29.34
RAPTOR-36.04

SEE- http://www.off-road.com/atv/reviews/quads/2003z400/dyno-report.html

Don't know why they didn't include the torque curve too?? Note that the EX and Z curves are pretty similar in shape, but the Z makes its max at a few hundred rpm higher than the EX. Raptor makes its max hp at a higher rpm than the other two.

One important thing is that these were all done on the SAME dyno. Even if the dyno is calibrated differently form others you have seen, the important thing is the DIFFERENCE between the machines (which isn't going to change much with calibration). The Z just isn't as dramatic as all the hype has led us to believe!!!

I can't wait to race a Z400 on my Banshee. I can't imagine it will be a close race at all but then again, these are 2 different classes of machines. I just find it EXTREMELY hard to believe that a properly running Banshee with a "normal" sized rider can be beaten by a Z400? We'll see. I suppose a 500 lb rider on a stock Banshee could be beaten by a 100 lb rider on a stock Z.

Either way, I was at the dealership yesterday and spent a few minutes looking over the Z and sitting on it. I really like this machine from what I could see without riding one. It fit me well too which I was surprised about since I was expecting it to feel small for me; more like a 400ex would. I would love to get one of these for the wife (get rid of the old Warrior) and I would enjoy it too.

Suzuki people seem a bit sensitive about the Z's hp compared to the 400ex. Hey Binfordw, I'd buy a Z but I kinda like it when my axle doesn't bend when jumping.
I'm only kidding.
I'm with YZGUY, I'm not so sure the Z is all it's cracked up to be. I'm sure it's a little faster in a drag race, but for me that's not enough to buy an unproven first year model over Honda reliabilty.

And is it suprizing that this is coming from a HONDA guy?? LOL- go buy a Suzuki- and quit yer b!tching!!

Sensitive? I didn't start these threads!

My buddy wasn't too impressed with the hp #'s either- but then again- he can easily beat a 400ex on his banshee- but he has yet to beat me on the Z. But I'm sure it has NOTHING to do with power- since there is almost no diff. between the ex and z. Maybe its because of the Z's aerodynamics.... lol

You guys can have you ex's- thats fine with me.

Thats fine guys- I won't argue till Im blue in the face this time- Maybe the 2 I Raced were unusually slow or something.

That is the lowest number ive ever seen for the ex and Z but the highest for raptor. the dyno must have been more torque friendly for the bigger cc engines.
I have seen like 3 others and they have the raptor usually at 35 to 36 and the Z 32-33. The EX usually at 27-28.

Oh yeah...and when you buy the Z their are papers which document the horsepower at mid 35....so high 32-33 rear wheel would work out just fine...their is no way it is only 29 rear wheel....I totally disregard that whole test in my mind.
