I currently own a garmin etrex vista and love it. It does what you are asking for but might be more money then you want to spend. I paid $299 on ebay for mine.

A sight you migh check out is geocaching.com. A lot of information on various types and brands. Questions and answers. I have learned a lot from that site. I am not an expert, just have a little experience.

Hope this helps.

Ok, I want to buy a GPS. But I don't know which one. I know what I want it to do. I want one that will map trails as I ride and then be able to download them to a pc. I want to be able to overlay several trails on the same map as I ride a somewhat complex system of trails that intersect each other. I also want to be able to use it in strange towns and cities to help me navigate. So I need one that will allow me to download cities to it. Which models can do all of the above? Also If someone wants to give me a little more info on how to use a gps that would be appreciated as well. Thanks in advance. JXP

Ok Guys, I changed my mind. I purchased the GPS V from Garmin. I decided that the external antena and more routes was worth the money. I also purchased the Roads and Recreation CD for the Garmin GPS family. I have made some backup copies of the cd and would like to have someone else store one for me. In exchange I would like to store a backup of their Garmin software. (topo usa, metroguide etc...). If anyone is interested please let me know. JXP

I have to give the nod to the etrex Vista also. It does everything you said, plus a barometric altimeter (as opposed to relying on satellite info), and an electronic compass which updates as a real compass would do. it's weather resistant as well, which is perfect for ATV'ing. I paid $290 with no S/H for mine. Whatever you go with I suggest getting a RAM mount for it. Garmin makes their own line of mounts, but from what I have read they are not made for the rigors of ATV's - the RAM is.

Blueleader - I've been looking at a Garmin III Plus. Not able to get satisfactory answers from the salesman. Can you print maps after entering waypoints? If yes, how detailed are the maps, i.e., does the printed map appear as a map or just dots or other symbols where waypoints were entered? I'm wanting to be able to ride trails and enter waypoints that may reflect the trail. May be asking too much...
