Riding boots will be different from wearing hunting boots or ? The riding books are make to be stiff so that way they can protect your ankle from getting twisted. You can make them some what softer by putting on some kind of boot grease. But the best and fastest way to break in a new pair of boots and you oil or grease them is get them wet and then go riding or walk around. I had a new pair of AXO boots a few years that never losen up till we went riding and I got them wet in a creek one day and after that they were more comfortable.

Huberds shoe grase.
This stuff works graet. I put the can and the boots out in the sun and let them get hot, then apply the soe grease and leave them out in the sun.
I do this with two applications, then wear the boots for about a month then do it again.
This will soften the leather and give you some more mobility

My wife bought me a new set of Answer Team Riding boots today. They fit really well and are comfortable to wear but seem excessively stiff. I can barley move my foot enough to shift gears on the Lakota Sport. This is the first pair of riding boot that I have ever had so I am not to familiar with how long it takes to get them broke in or the proper way to evn break them in other than riding in them. I assume that they will break in some and shifting will get easier...right? I hope so cause at $170.00 a pair it better get better or they are going back for something different. I know that there are boots and then there are BOOTS. Is there one that is more flexible in the ankle area so that it will be easier to shift? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
